This topic made me laugh until I realized it wasn't a joke.
Unless you're EXTREMELY unlucky or trying to be funny, there's hardly lightning always occurring during rain, let alone lightning managing to hit a creeper and spawn a supercharged one.
Also, supercharged creepers are pretty easy to kill. They're like regular creepers: don't let them explode. Sprint at them to knock them back with a sword, or use a bow to eliminate them from a distance.
Rain should be less laggy, but overall I'm fine with it and love seeing rain, despite the slight lag it sometimes causes me to get.
No. just no. We want minecraft to be more realistic, not less.
Whoa, whoa, whoa there buddy, not ALL of us want a super-realistic Minecraft. In fact, that would be boring as hell. So please, think before you go making huge generalizations next time.

dammit, read the thing twice and think 3 times before you post. i never said i wanted minecraft to be really realistic. I said that we want it to be a little more realistic, and getting rid of rain is not the way to go. So how bout you think before you post and make generalizations, kay?
Truly one of the stupidest requests I've seen.
Minecraft is easy. Why do you think they make skeletons more difficult? Why did they increase creeper damage based on difficulty?
Why in the latest snapshots will damaging a zombie have a chance of spawning more?
Because Minecraft is easy. Rain helps make Minecraft a little more difficult. It stops mobs from burning. This was done so that you have more risk of death when during the day.
Charged creepers? Since I started Minecraft(Since they've been added), I've always wanted to see a legitimate one. Guess what? Hasn't happened, and I started late Alpha.
The only thing agreeable in your post is that the rain is noisy. However, workarounds exists such as turning down the volume. No, it won't make it too difficult. How do I know? Because I play without sound. I listen to music whilst I play. Anyway, rain is fine the way it is.
tl;dr: Rain is fine, pointless post. No need to change it.
It's you, you're not cautious, if you know that will happen then don't go outside when it's raining. If you don't want mobs when raining or not go live in a mushroom island.
I didn't say the rain was there before I was herding the cow did I? It just randomly started raining as I was herding the cow! Read more carefully next time!
And for the third flipping time, im picky with biomes

I only added charged creepers to the poll so that people that dont want them will be able to vote on it. Just because you play without sound doesn't mean everyone else does, and finds it easy to do so. Pointless post? You saying that everybody can find it easy to play without or with changed volume is a pointless argument, everyone is different.
Wow the op has some major issues. Your the only one i have EVER seen complain about something so STUPID! Its just rain. Oh no, falling water what will we do? Just turn your sound down. Easy. Its either no rain noise or being able to hear everything else. I know your parents probably treat you like a spoiled brat, but this is the real world. You can't always get what you want! Wake up call!!!
considering how no one supports you and are instead just arguing with you to stop whining you should probably let this topic die. Also I've noticed that you are very rude in your replys to the people who disagree with you.
While rain definitley should be made less laggy and have a better sound, it's not OP. Just because it prevents mobs from being on fire doesn't make it op... shade keeps them from bruning, so does armour, and water, are those OP too? Rain can also be gotten ride of by sleeping if you want them to burn in the day.
Pasta dude, calm down. People don't like your idea of nerfing rain because it's fine the way it is. Just download a mod that removes rain if you hate it that much.
Personally, aside from the slight lag increase, I think rain is fine. If the sound annoys you, you can always go underground or build a larger home. Also, sleeping in a bed resets the rain to clear skies.
Whoa, whoa, whoa there buddy, not ALL of us want a super-realistic Minecraft. In fact, that would be boring as hell. So please, think before you go making huge generalizations next time.
Oh, so I'm assuming any realism suggestion will make the game boring huh? Is that what you're saying?
No. It's realistic, and the sound isn't really that annoying. If you're in the mood for rain, it's really nice.
Also, Charged Creepers are barely a problem at all since it's INCREDIBLY RARE for lightning to strike a Creeper. It's not like the lightning is specifically targeting Creepers.
I don't think you know what OP means.
And rain isn't as common as you make it out to be.
1. How exactly is preventing mobs from burning up in the sunlight helpful? The answer: ITS NOT!
2. I play only multiplayer, fire-spread is off on most survival servers.
3:What are the odds that your overworld portal will land you in a netherfortress? Blazes don't spawn anywhere else in the nether, plus you can disable or break their spawners. Did I mention spawn-eggs are only available in creative with the core game?
4. Wolfs shaking themselves dry? That isn't helpful, its just eye candy, big flipping deal.
Endermen teleporting in rain? Do you know how many times that has scared the crap out of me, or was just plain annoying?
5. The problem isnt your volume level, its the volume of the rain itself!
6. Theres something called irrigation, and it affects up to eight blocks away, small farms supply plenty of food for one person anyway!
1. Exactly. Which is why I have written #7.
2. So? Not everyone is playing MP with firespread turned off, and not everyone is catering to your every whim.
3. Another problem answered in #7.
4. Same as 1 and 3. Also, you spelled "wolves" wrong.
5. No, it isn't. You can mute your game.
6. ...What?
7. Pwnguin's list is not his "list of why rain is good", it's simply a quote from Minecraft Wiki which lists what rain does.
Stop expecting everyone to bring up OVER 9000!!!1 reasons why rain is good to counter your problems with its sound.
In fact, the BAD things it brings are good. They make the game more challenging and give it more variety. Plus, if I were to come across a charged Creeper in a survival world, I would marvel at its rarity and attempt to avoid it instead of killing it.
That argument is completely invalid for multiplayer...
So what? The suggestions forum is not for telling everyone your problems and saying "Get rid of it", and basing all of it on your circumstances (i.e., not everyone is playing MP). It's for suggesting improvements.
I am looking at the replies and let me just say I am disappointed.
Let me evaluate this:
First, rain is useless. All it does is fill up cauldrons, which would only be useful in the nether where you can't use source blocks. Uh-oh, it doesn't rain in the nether!
Second, it's annoying. It is loud, it makes the skies dark and makes it hard to see, it makes endermen teleport which is awful if you are hunting endermen, it kills snow golems, and puts out burning zombies and skeletons.
Third, why should I have to turn down my sound? Why should I have to get optifine? I shouldn't have to do ANYTHING, it's a problem, and should be solved instead of being "patched" by other solutions.
It's a very nice ambiance, it's nice just to have rain sometimes just like real life. I don't mind the rain sounds, so I don't turn down my sound. You're annoyed by it, you should turn down your sound. Why should Mojang have to lower its volume and/or change the sound entirely?
Fourth, pasta is correct. You can't use /toggledownfall in multiplayer.
This is just grasping at straws.
And pwngwin? Minecraft isn't about realism, it's about gameplay. You don't see floating rods of burning magic metal that shoots fireballs at you in real life, do you?
Minecraft would be nothing without some base form of realism, which includes rain.
Sometimes, some people's problems are with something that is so obviously a good thing, that it's nearly impossible to describe why it's good.
Without rain your lovely grass wouldnt be there , therefore you gotta deal with the rain, simple as that. And as many people has stated, its perfectly fine as it is , if you hate it do much and are playing multiplayer , i repeat what i said , change the biome where you live.
I'm not scared of them, its because they can be an extreme nuisance at times like when you are herding a cow into your pen, and its too stupid to notice the darn wheat, then BOOM rain comes and a zombie starts attacking you, which is plain annoying. I don't want to have to turn down the global volume, I just want to be able to turn down the sound of the rain alone!
Rain does not spawn hostile mobs (except thunderstorms, which are even more rare), and I'm pretty sure it doesn't stop them from despawning.
I didn't say the rain was there before I was herding the cow did I? It just randomly started raining as I was herding the cow! Read more carefully next time!
And for the third flipping time, im picky with biomes
You know, if you want people to like and agree with you, you need to stop being so rude and defensive.

Then why don't you make a pen so when it rains no zombie can attack you, or turn your backyard into a pen so when it rains you can easily go into your house, it's your problem you're picky with biomes.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers what the Universe is for, it will be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
I like being able to be inside my cozy home, looking outside at the dreadful weather. My minecraft feet touching the soft carpet I've installed. This applies almost double for Snow biomes, where it is almost surreal and serene. It's also rather critical for my icemaker.
I like being able to go outside and actually be threatened by mobs. Arguably, with Enchanted Diamond they aren't much of a threat. I do wish I could see a charged creeper. I've never seen one and I've been playing since before Weather was added. Blast Protection IV on a few pieces of armour and a charged creeper could probably serve as a launchpad.
When weather was first added, I waited three days for it to finally rain. I danced around in the downpour when it finally did; admired the particle effects. I went inside and replaced my glass ceiling with planks because the rain went through transparent blocks originally, and just sat inside my house, cozy warm, watching over my furnace as the elements outside caressed my blocky homestead.

Tundras have grass. And snow. Snow is good. And snow makes no sound.
Taigas have lots of wood, too.
Deserts can have villagers and temples.
Technically, only in real life.
Actually, it encourages them to hide in your house.
(Which is really cool, IMO)
Rain does not spawn hostile mobs (except thunderstorms, which are even more rare), and I'm pretty sure it doesn't stop them from despawning.
You know, if you want people to like and agree with you, you need to stop being so rude and defensive.
Yeah, for example, earthquakes, or tornadoes, or volcanoes, or tidal waves. Boring, right?
Praise be to Spode.

It's happening.
The essence of SPUF has leaked into the Minecraft Forums.
Everything is OP.
It's all over.
Only thing I'd change is make it so you can't hear Thunder hundreds of blocks deep underground.

Other than that, RAIN IS USEFUL
