Since snapshot 13w16a came out, we have horses now. I had an idea since you can ride a pig. That is carriage. Yes, carriage. Horses or donkeys can add carriage on them. For maximum 4 peoples can ride on the carriage(Except for the rider). Just like in real life, you can have a car with 5 seats. Here is my concept image:
I don't mean it must be the minecart. Just a concept.
Horses have made pigs useless and Minecarts next to useless (Expect for TNT Minecarts), if you add this then Minecarts will lose the only thing keeping them from not being useless, that is being able to hold multiple people, so if you add this you will just make them useless, and I hate it when items become that

Minecarts are no-man transport. They work fine even no one control anything. But carriage, you still need a man to ride on it.
And pig, I trying to think an idea that make them useful.

Yeah, I'm with DeadIsaac on this one; I don't think that carriages would make minecarts obsolete at all. Minecarts have very specific uses, but they were never designed for freeform travel or exploration, in the same way that horses will never serve to automatically transport items from location A to location B, etc.
Id like just being able to leash minecarts to horses and have them pull the things around, maybe even tie several carts together for a wagon train, more carts possibly requiring more horses.

But minecarts were made by iron. Is that really possible to let a horse pull a minecart?

Quite possible. However, I do think that mine carts/carriages should slow down the horse significantly; possibly to the point that minecarts are actually faster.

Hmm... How about:
1. Do not add new carriages. Use minecarts instead.
2. Do not make horses drag these. Use pigs instead.
There, now we add a use to both pigs and minecarts.
look, minecarts are not gona be useless, why is everyone being so nonsensical? think about the word minecart, MINE, in the real world minecarts are used in in mines. its not like your gona use a horse or a pig in a mine. get real.

After about the 10th comment on a thread, no one pays attention to what you have to say. ):

That is some serious faulty logic. I would never use a Pig in a mine because even with the Carrot on a Stick, Pig riding has always been fairly useless to me. But if there is room I would totally use a Horse in a cave. Being able to jump places mobs can't reach, or over lava or any number of things. That just sounds useful.
Besides, very rarely do I ever use Minecarts in an actual mine, as some of the most efficient mine setups are so efficient that you don't need to even bother with a Minecart for transporting items. While I agree that Horse carts would not make the Minecart useless, your logic is broken.
As for the idea itself, It's neat, but I really don't see too much of a need for it.

You're right. This is much more for multiplayer. Or they can improve the villager AI.(Ride a horse?LOL)
I would support it, but only as a goods transport, so you can do long nomad trips with lots of inventory, make it so the cart is the equivalent of 2 chests, but make them connectable so they can be a long train, but they reduce the horses speed by 30% for each cart that is being dragged, the craft could be so you have to make wheels first like so
symbols: B: wood block, L: leather, C: chest, T: un-wheeled cart, W: wheel, 0: NOTHING
wheel craft:
0 L 0
L B L
0 L 0
makes only one wheel
then for the unwheeled cart:
B C B
B C B
B B B
makes one unwheeled cart
then for the final product, the wheeled cart
W 0 W
0 T 0
W 0 W
makes one wheeled cart, then all you have to do is attach lead to cart, and to connect more, you just connect a lead to the cart you want to add to the last cart added

minecarts will still serve a purpose for constructing ways to get out of a mine shaft, not so much for above ground transport though
They closed my thread on the idea so yeah I like it. I had an idea of using it to transfer animals or use it for storage or use it for long distance travel so you can setup a temporary base with the cart. I mean it would have to be pulled by 2 or more horses but I think it would be pretty cool. I support this.

Yeah, you should be able to transfer animals with it. That would be really useful for getting them to farms.
I think this is a cool idea, and i do think that posibly you create something that transforms into the cart/carriage like an iron golem, possibly there are multiple kinds, covered wagons, ones to transport things, and ones that hold multiple people.

I don't think its faulty logic to say running around deep underground with a horse is a pretty awful idea. To me it is totally illogical to use a horse underground. Where is Mr. Spock when you need him? I guess to each his own...
I've fallen through a crack in the over world and landed 20+ blocks underground with a horse. It was horrible. It could only have been worse if I actually spent the time purposefully doing it.

No, minecart can't be the carriage.
For number 2, I have an idea. How about we just let all passive mobs rideable? This maybe the soultion of it.
