When it's done. Just use the old versions of CC (You get to choose between Beta1.7.3, Beta 1.8.1, and 1.0.0)

May I ask how to install it for 1.0, or any of those versions for that matter? Installing it with the new launcher is a pain. I'll probably have to flush my client D:

Installing with the new launcher doesn't even work, it throws a "URI is not hierarchical" exception. You need to use the old launcher.

I have a question, would mods that add a new dimension such as the aether need to be rewritten, or dose that count as a terrain generator as stated in the FAQ

Only the parts that deal with chunks will need to be re-written. Hopefully the Aether mod isn't too dependent on the chunk system, if not it will be a very easy conversion.

OK this is by far the best idea ever to have come out of anyone's mouth in the history of this entire forum. Full and total support, man.

In the main post it states that you could have better biomes (underground or in the air) with this system, but you can have those things now, because they are a function of the terrain generator, not the chunk system. Was the OP mistaken or was he perhaps referring to more space for those biomes?

Also what is a good solution to the issue of the sky being visable in deep caves when the roof is too far above you to load?

Secondly, maybe the OP meant that the 3D chunk system would be easier to make 3D biomes with. I really don't know much about how the terrain system actually works, so don't quote me on anything I may say about it.
As for the sky issue, that is still under discussion; in fact, it's pretty much the one remaining serious problem with this system, otherwise it would probably already be in Minecraft now.

If not for the sky lighting issues, these would have been implemented back in 1.2 when there was the doubling of the build height, which was based on a part of this very system.

I thought we settled this? If you are below a cavern, then the height-map would keep it dark because you are underground. If you're on the surface and open to sky, there will be light. If you are exploring underground and find a giant cavern too tall to load, it will generate the world upward until it hits blocks or guaranteed sky, which would be 128 on the default generator (world generators which generate higher up could change this if they wanted to, amplified would have it set to 256). If it hits blocks, you're underground, if it hits sky, you're above ground. If a structure exists above 128/256, then the heightmap would know about it and the previous two sentences do not occur for that block column.

The only problem is terrain generation bugs could cause terrain to go millions of blocks downward, and I assume falling for 2 million blocks is not fun.

Any bugs would be fixed when people found them. If someone purposefully makes a terrain generator that goes down millions of blocks, even though it would probably be laggy, it would be something you can't do using the current system and it would be pretty cool. Even something a few thousand blocks wouldn't be laggy, it's best to just implement this system and let players decide on where they want to go, to push the limits or to just play like a normal person would.

On another note; I have recently discovered the ATLauncher, which supports the new minecraft update system and will allow me to create a pack for all of us. However, I am still waiting on two permissions. MineCrak, getting Robinton's permission would be a great starting place.

Currently, three dimensional biomes are not possible due to biome information being stored per column of each chunk; and since each chunk in vanilla takes up the full height of the world, you can only have one biome appear in any one column. With cubic chunks, each chunk is only 16 blocks tall, meaning that the column of blocks in the next chunk up can have a different biome. This allows for floating islands and underground biomes that are different then the surface biome.

Yeah. Sometimes he responds to me pretty quickly, sometimes it takes a while.. Depends on what's going on in his life at that time. I've sent him direct messages regarding this so he'll definitely get them.

Good news about the ATlauncher, but how about the Technic launcher? Will it work?
