1) There can be more world types, each taking advantage of the new features in different ways.
-All the world types except default will have their generation match the world height.
-Default, for just a regular Minecraft world.
-Superhigh, normal underground, but with taller mountains, aboveground structures, etc.(sea level=63)
-Superdeep, normal aboveground, but extended underground.(sea level=Max height-63)
-Extended, combonation of superhigh and superdeep.(sea level is halfway between max and min height)
-Floating, Aether/sky dimension style islands.(no sea level)
-New world option "Outer Space" for superhigh/extended/floating, when on, the space idea with the night sky (who posted it?) is in that world
-New biome: "space" with floating asteroids, night sky, etc. (seriously, who posted the space idea?? someone's comment...)
-For Superdeep/extended, world option "lava" for the bottom of the world (lava or bedrock.)
2) Customizable heights: 128, 256(default), 512, 1024, or infinite(aka. 30,000,000).
So basically, all of the suggested stuff is implemented, but one has a choice to use it to further customize their worlds.

I'd just like to point out that this is minecraft, and as realistic as it is, its not realistic. So because it's not exactly realistic, whats to stop an unlimited height to the world? and if there still as a problem with unlimited height not being realistic, Mount Everest rises rises almost 9km above sea level which translates to about 9000 minecraft blocks high. This being said, the idea of running into space seems too have more issues than unlimited building in my thinking.
I do like the idea of being able to customize the height and depth though. With unlimited as one of the options of course.
Also to go along with the new chunk modification, maybe custom size Chunk cubes? My reason for this; if your computer is slower and lags a lot you could turn down the size of the chunks stored so that your game runs slower. and if you have a fast computer, you have the advantage of turning up the chunk size which has the advantage of being able to see more. Just a suggestion.
I support this idea. I would love to be able to build a city high enough where you cant see it from the ground.
One more suggestion a little off topic, but still in the same idea of things. Through my time in playing minecraft i've noticed that moving verticle distances, ie.. climbing stairs, water, ladders, and pillar jumping take a long time. So a topic for another forum.. some way to climb unlimited heights and depths a little faster if these features were implemented.
+1
Also a banner artist definitely needs to make a banner for this!

and mountains over 500 blocks high? yes please!
I like the idea that this being implemented with the ablity to pick deffrent world types or click advance and set the hight limits for things like...
How deep the soil layer is.... how deep the iron, gold, dimonds can be found ... how deep before large pools of standing laval are.... and how high the avrage hills/mountains will be..... and how deep the avrage lake and ocean will be..... all that stuff..... being able to really set your world the way you want it.... like in creation mode flat land options only more advance ...

But to my knowledge render distance does not change the chunk size. I have played on a computer which was pretty slow, and render distance did not change the amount of lag. Meaning, i had the same amount of lag on tiny that i did on normal. So decreasing chunk size seems to make more sense when it comes to reducing lag. I could be totally wrong on this theory, so correct me if I am please.
If switching to tiny didn't do anything, then changing chunk size sure as heck won't. Only thing I can recommend is Optifine.

As far as I know, mini-modding isn't allowed. And my friend had to learn that the hard way. Well, I guess we both did for that matter. Now look, the threads you seem to love so much are suggesting both halves of this topic, therefore making this one more worth reading. The owner of that thread even said that this topic was worth reading more than his.
Anyways, can't remember if I posted on this topic earlier, but I have to say that this is one of the most intriguing and relevant topics there is on this forum, and its concepts are fascinating. Though one thing that bugs me is this: If this idea has no drawbacks and really does reduce lag, how come Mojang hasn't considered this into the equation earlier? I mean such an idea can't just be ignored for no reason? Anyways, I really can't wait until this is implemented.
Full support!
Okay thanks.
I can't see any reason why this can't be added in the game at this point. I only think they haven't added it yet is they have been focused on improving other aspects of the game. My guess is it would take some work to write out not only that the chunk size needs to be a cube from now on. But also that it needs to break up all the existing chunks in preexisting worlds and turn them into cube chunks.
Just like when they were going to re-write the lighting engine. They had to delay it because it wasn't as easy as they had first speculated.
I personally would like to see this as a possible future update though. Increased world height and new map editing. Maybe even the "Sky Dimensions" along with it. Or the floating islands game mode. I definitely support this.
And this topic also doesn't say "just make infinite height".
I support this suggestion, someone was able to do it in a mod so why not in vanilla?
Notice: I'm going to be inactive for 10 days for a vacation, so I'll be unable to respond to questions or update the OP until the 26th.

The idea is each chunk has it's light data saved from the chunk above. And you don't need a finite hight to do that because the world isn't going to generate floating islands or overhangs after a certen point anyway, so there will be a finite hight at wich you can get a chunk thats 100% sunlight and there isn't going to be anything above it.
Smaller chunks mean not as many will need to be loaded, meaning less blocks will be loaded. Changing them is not only possable but has been done by one person making a mod..... no need to alter world flies even... so it's not as big as a deal as you think.
Comunication isn't my strong point. I am more than happy to have my idea re-worded into a way people can understand, and additional clerifcation to how it will work has been added from where I didn't know how the game loads some things. Simply adding to my topic wouldn't do much to help.... a new clearer and updated OP was needed.
or do you realy think my OP was better.... or is this just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.....

Near infinite, I've tried it before. Up to 60000 blocks or so, I can't remember. Try it if you want, but it's one of those mods everyone likes but is abandoned.
