I see a lot of potential in Cauldrons, but it is untapped. Here are a few good suggestions that I have no idea why this hasn't been done.
1. Cauldrons that are full should act like a water source block when lava touches their top. This way Cobblestone and Obsidian could be made from lava in the Nether like in the Overworld.
2. Full Cauldrons could act as a water block with respect to farming Sugar Cane. This way you could finally have a Nether Sugar Cane farm, but with a serious cost in iron.
3. Cauldrons should also fill up quickly when water flows into them directly. It works with rain, so why not a flood?

The third one I like, but the other two I really don't care about. I can kind of get behind the first one too, but not the second one. How does water magically soak through the Iron into the Sand?

Moisturizes the air, but only if it's close. This should not count as hydrating any block farther than the ones that are directly adjacent.

I like it. Just a bit of a crazy idea though, But what about hoppers re-direct the liquid? You know, you connect a hopper to a cauldron, then connect that hopper to another one, the water will then flow out.

As long as you have a special Bucket support it could would work. They don't want water as an inventory item because of how it works in the Nether. Hoppers need an item to act as an intermediary.

Maybe they could use the water item, but you couldn't pick it up.

Just using it to show that the Hopper is working? Now there's an idea.
