While trying to build an adventure map this idea struck me. What if you could select diffrent textures for an item. Say it was for a bow, you could have one texture look like an actual bow and another that looks like a gun. Using mcpatcher you can make diffrent textures for one mob, but what if this was possible for items as well. This way adventure maps could be much more immersive. There would have to be an easy way for map creators to choose a texture, and that texture couldn't be cleint-side.

If you are making this as a project, you should include something for mcedit. MCedit usually does not require any additional files, apart from the ocasionnal schematic, which does not need to be included in the distributed save.
Ehh... The amount of programming it would require for items to be changed into ANY custom sprite and be server-side... Texture packs that come with adventure maps already accomplish this.
Are you saying, like, you could have 1 normal bow in your map, along with one punch II bow with a wind
bow sprite and one fire aspect II bow with a fire bow sprite, all in the same map, without mods? That would
be so epic!
