I was having an issue with my adventure map, (look at my sig) I'm not really a fan of the books resetting to the first page after done reading. Instead, it should leave off on the page you closed it on.
Let's say you're done reading on page 40, a few seconds later you want to add something to the book. When you reopen the book, you have to flip through 40 pages in order to add something.
I find this extremely annoying and wish that it would be fixed in the 1.4 update.
It should go like this: You're done reading on page 40, a few seconds later you want to add something to the book. When you reopen the book, you reopen it on page 40.
This makes it easier to add things to the book and allows one less annoyance to Minecraft
That could also be bad. What if people wanted it to go back to the first page? So they need to add a bookmark button, or a first page button.
That's what I was thinking. The OP seems to be about editing the book, so maybe that feature could occur only on an unfinished book?
Also, bookmarks work too.
Yes, it would really help to navigate through the pages real quickly, and if anybody ever got an idea to check something for reference just in case you forgot about what happened, you could just look up that exact page and not have to worry about it, which would be especially true if you are playing somebody else's adventure map after that book as been "Published." It would also be very nice if you could instantly go to a specific page if it had an "Index" function, that would be very, very useful indeed.

I'd say bookmarks should work more like they work on e-readers, just click a button and this page is marked. Probably more like dog earing than bookmarks.

Index sounds like a nice feature, imagine typing the page you want to go to in a box and being taken to that page. Honestly, Notch definatly needs to add that to 1.4
