Because the sticks contain more sap (which is what the redstone bonds to and reacts with), and are more alive. Planks are more cut up and processed, and is not covered in bark, therefore the wood is much less alive and contains less sap, which is also why planks don't produce a current, because the sap is more spaced out and external (exposing it to air, solidifying it and making it polluted with dust and organic material that the redstone cannot react with), where a stick has bark on the outside protecting the sap, but can be accessed by the redstone on the top.
Logs don't work because they work too well. Like inverted torches and repeater clocks, when placed on a log the redstone dust burns itself out, not letting the dust on top of it to create power using the sap in the log.
What about living trees? If i put redstone on them wont it generate power?

I covered that when I talked about logs, pretty much. It would short out from the large amount of power, not allowing a connection with the log. Leaves don't contain sap so it doesn't work on those. If you somehow got restone on a log part of a tree without chopping it off it would still burn itself out because it would have even more alive and clean sap than a regular log.

Enough power to short itself out? Wouldnt this create heat? Heat then causing a fire?
There's an obvious flaw in the game in which only Sand and Gravel blocks are affected by gravity. I think this is wrong. Jeb, please fix your game by making all blocks affected by gravity. They can be held up using supports.

heat burning a living tree? have you tried burning a freshly cut tree? probably not. I guess people have been drying their wood for no particular reason.
And really, you want the game changed where 26 million plus accounts will ALL have to EXTENSIVELY edit their worlds JUST so you can understand one aspect of a game is a little more than selfishly asinine. And they seriously will have to destroy their ENTIRE creations and start over from scratch.
I mean, do you not see the stupidity in this request?

This is a game matey. A freshly cut tree burns just as well as one thats been drying in the nether for a year. Your point is irrelephant.
You've just completely contradict several of your other suggestions. Besides, there's still no reason to add this.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

only to someone living in a tightly nit imaginary world my friend.....
Enough with the pleasantries! You have exhibited far more incompetence than the theoretical normal persons would tout. Begone with this absurdity as you are getting nowhere with this blasphemous talk of imperfect redstontry, it is high time you pack your bags and be done with the un doing of your own audacity.
It is bliss and ignorance that veils your eyes, or my own extreme arrogance murking my perception, either way you are coming off as a stark idiot in my honest opinion.

I have fixed the "offending" post, but there is also a rule in place to not reply to a post like that. I wish you luck in your endeavors to "fix" redstone, although your "fix" isn't actually a fix. Redstone torch can be thought of as a battery and redstone on the ground the wire. Wires don't give off power.

Redstone has been suggested to be fixed in the manner you have described in this very topic, please use the search function before creating a topic as this can be a infraction able offense.
