ok so i have seen new ore post and the thing they seem to lack is new or better uses.. (aside ppl saying this is better than diamond) well i think silver would be a great addition to the game and can have a few new uses..
1. it should be rare as gold
2. should form in clusters of 2-4
3. can be used for tools and such but is in between iron and diamond. (not stronger..it can help bridge the gap)
4. can be used like emerald in trading (once you trade enough emeralds the value would drop so silver would be usefull there)
5. can be used as a "vanity/decore" item makng flashy blocks and the tools/armor would be flashy too
6. silver block + 4 glow stone dust can make "radiant block" it would creat a better light source than glowstone..maybe say X1.5 the light value? and glow white/silver
7. during full moon there would be another mob that would spawn that would only be hurt using silver (and/or you can increase the power and and reduce damage from other materials to mob already roaming during full moon. (sliver gets thru normaly)
8. lanters. a slightly better light source than tourches takin 1 glowstone dust and crafting 4 silver around it
9. 1 silver ingot can be crafted to 9 sliver coins and back... 1 sliver coin can be used as trading or used to brew new potions. some ideas are poison cure/resist (cures poison), night sight (can see in dark better, near or at day light) used for health potions/harm potions, used as part to make XP potions,
if you have other ideas id like hearing them and i hope ppl can support this as a new ore.
more ideas
10. wishing well.. adding this wishing well to the game players can use it like trading with a villager except a few changes. first the villagers wont trade high end items..nothing like diamand and if they trade anything enchanted it would be low enchantments. now the wishing well would take silver coins and trade high end rare items. the catch is it only will do so on a full moon. look up to number 7.
11. silver to decorate. since silver will be rare i think it could be use to add to items to "decorate/make fancy" like a book shelf adding a silver bar would upgrade the look and ad silver etching and a slight "glowing look" to it. maybe after the adjust enchanting silver book cases can be used for high end enchnting as well.. this "silver plating" would also work with things like chests, beds, caldrens, and such adding to the look.
12. silver doors same as iron exept "fancy" texture and undead wont come with in one block of it.
again if you have anything to add or any way you think this could make it into the game please feel free to comment..
You're basically trying to add something that already have just spread out over different materials such as emeralds, iron, gold, and diamonds.
Idea number 3 addressed: I believe that the bridge between iron and diamond is gold due to it's high enchantability making it slightly more powerful than iron in a sense but less durable than diamond. Also, we don't need more armor and silver would end up being just like gold as it is not a strong metal.
Idea number 4 and 9 addressed: Emeralds are the currency. The only currency. That is not likely to change once implemented in 1.3 And because they are a currency item, they aren't really used for much else so using silver coins as potion ingredients would not work. I don't think XP potions should be craftable, either.
Idea number 5 addressed: Gold and diamond are the vanity armor you speak of.
Idea number 6 addressed: We don't need many more light blocks. We already have torches, lighted netherrack, glowstone, and redstone lamps. Glowstone is a good enough light source, light sources shouldn't be over powered just like anything else in the game.
Idea number 7 addressed: You know you can say werewolf right? Because that's what you're basically suggesting. It's been suggested before but it would be killed with gold instead. The points come up again, the silver you suggest would basically be like a white version of gold.
Idea number 8 addressed: Lanterns have been suggested before without the need of an entire new ore. Make sure you search these things before suggesting them.
These are my opinions on your ideas, to conclude...no support from me for it is not needed and is too much like existing ores. If I missed a serious point or misunderstood something, let me know so I can revise my post.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Kingdoms rise and fall. Just don't burn the paintings in the Louvre, that's all.
None of these uses are very new. More tools would be pointless, silver as currency would be pointless, we don't need better light sources, adding a whole new mob just to give silver a point is ridiculous,
point 3. gold is less durable than iron making it lower grade even when enchanted. at the point yourr enchanting you already have diamond..plus iron enchanted is in my mind just as good as or better than gold because of low duribilty in gold. and silver is actuly a strong metal..
point 4 and 9 first they have mentioned limiting trading with viagers so after you trade a few times the stop trading..silver would be a nice answer kinda a "balence" the economy thing. as far as silver for potions silver is a sign of "purity" and is used in part in real life to purify water so it would/could be used as healing/purifying potions. you might not like XP potions but some ppl might..it would be your choice to make them or not.
5. as for the vanity items..everyone always asks for more "decore" type blocks and vanity blocks..this would fill that use as well as others.. as far as tools and such it also again fills the gap between.
6. as far as directly need..your right.. tho i think it would be nice to add them as far as crafting goes as it adds a nice veriaty to what you build.
point 7. i could say werewolf but it doesnt need to be it can be any mob mine craft is creatve im sure they can figure somthing fun out. and like you even said its something ppl want..and would add a use for silver in the game.
point 8 ya lanterns have been talked about..and your right they may not need a new oe..but they do give more uses to this new ore. and again you said it..pll want them
so thats pretty much my thoughts on your thoughts on my thoughts as it stands right now.

well lets see. curnecy..right now theres no need for emerald as a cerency..they could set a straight trade system and not even have emerald..or at the point they could add silver and phase out emerald if thats the argument..then you have a cerency with other uses.. again we dont need better light..we dont need glow stone as light or redstone tourches..but it adds to the game...and adding a new mob..well you can think of it as adding a new ore to take advantage of a new mob type/game mechanic.

Curnecy...Cerency. It's CURRENCY. If you're going to spell it wrong, at least be consistent in your mistake.
There is no reason to phase out emerald for silver. Emerald is currency. End of story.
Glowstone and redstone lamps serve a purpose: Glowstone can be harvested for materials. Redstone lamps can be activated by redstone.
Quit trying to invalidate the things already in the game just because your silver has no point.
I'm not going to address your replies to my other points because it has become abundantly obvious you didn't even research the ore you are trying to implement.

im ok with my spelling errors. and the point is validasting everything in the game at this point. since the argument hindges on the fact this isnt needed.. so im looking at all the other things that arent needed as well.
as far as trade emeralds only are used in trade..that and making a block. so silver is a better alternitive at this point.
glowstone well is a light source..your argument is we have light so sdilver shouldnt be used for that. well then no need for glow stone as a light source..plus then silver can replace glows stone in potions as well. and as far as red stone lamps you dont need them..all they are is glowstone you turn on and off..not needed.

Let's add copper and we can make pizza dough out of it. Copper is doughy, right?
kingly ah ok..i made a mistake on the hardnessfunny tho how your basing the game uses of something based on a mistake in real life hardnessa big reason i made this post is a large number of ppl wanting a new ore/block..wanting a gap bridge between iron and diamond... this seems to me like the best option to fill that roll..if anyone has a better option or can think of a way they would make silver useable in the game please share

You've not said a single thing that isn't needed. All things you mentioned have unique purposes. Nice try.
Silver is NOT a better alternative. Emerald is the currency of Minecraft and there is no reason to change it. Changing it to silver would improve exactly nothing.
My argument was we don't need NEW light sources. I didn't say **** about MULTIPLE sources. The fact is we have sunlight, lava, torches, lamps, and glowstone. We don't need NEW light sources.
There is NO reason to replace glowstone with silver. Changing it to silver would improve exactly nothing.
Redstone lamps exist for use in mechanisms. That's their purpose and, as the only redstone-triggered light source, it is a unique purpose.
All of your arguments are ****. All you're doing is trying and failing to invalidate current features to accommodate your useless one. And that ISN'T how you defend a suggestion.
You clearly have no clue how to properly suggest and back up suggestions. Either go learn how to do so or get off my internet.
kingly ah ok..i made a mistake on the hardness funny tho how your basing the game uses of something based on a mistake in real life hardness
The ores in Minecraft follow real life hardness. Gold has terrible durability because it is a soft material. Wood is weak in real life-weak in game. Stone is stronger than wood in real life-stronger than wood in game. That's how Minecraft works.
Tarlakk I'm glad you have the time to argue with this guy because I would of gotten a headache by now. Well stated guys!
I live on disability. I have a lot of time. Combine that with a very low tolerance for stupid (not that I'm calling him stupid or anything) and arguing on a forum just comes natural.

If this was a good option, you'd have a better defense for it than trying and failing to shoehorn it into where other features already serve a purpose. But you don't.
Your idea sucks, your arguments suck, and given your adamant insistence on displacing established features in a futile attempt to salvage this mess of an idea, I'm inclined to say a few other things about this suck as well. But I won't.

And that's the long and short of it.
ok how bout this one of your big points that you have been standing on is emerald is a better trade item than silver would be. so tell me this.. aside from a trade item..what does emerald do that makes it any better? for that mater why should there be emerald and not just use gold as the trade item? its been there longer.

I didn't say it was better. Quit lying.
I said it was the same: There would be nothing better about currency if it became silver so there is no need to change it. Gold isn't used because gold already has multiple uses and has carved itself a niche as a trophy metal and element in powered devices.
And you seem to lack basic comprehension (big ****ing shock) of the concept of currency. Currency is MEANT for only one use: AS CURRENCY. That's why gold isn't used and that's why silver would add nothing to the currency system. Your "silver should replace emerald because LOL MORE USES" argument is invalid.

How you've made this suggestion: Create an ore then tack on random ideas to make it useful.
How suggestions should be made: If an idea does not require your new ore, don't shoehorn them together.
We don't need silver to make a lantern. Current blocks could serve that purpose if needed.

"Silver ( /ˈsɪlvər/ SIL-vər) is a metallic chemical element with the chemical symbol Ag (Latin: argentum, from the Indo-European root *arg- for "grey" or "shining") and atomic number 47. A soft, white, lustrous transition metal,"
