This would not fit into the theme of Minecraft. but this would make a good mod!
Theme? Whats the Minecraft theme? As i know its a sand box without a theme, you are free to do whatever you want. The "theme" would be the same, sandbox and survival, but just in a different enviroiment.
What about the squids.... WHAT ABOUT THE SQUIDS!!!!! YOU SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE SQUIDS!!!!!
Also: Good Idea, most of it seems ok, but the mob system seems bad, all mobs spawn from the start of normal minecraft, all mobs should spawn from the start of this, +Endermen would take the grass blocks and run off with your grass. and Creepers would blow it up, they are parts of minecraft and should be seen from the start. [Talking about hostile mobs not passive mobs]
What if also, the normally generated world is the result of thousands of years after someone remade the world, and all that remain are the temples and villages.

The squids and the mobs that live in the water, are bellow the surface, so they should spawn normally, and i dont think cows, chickens and sheeps will fit a post-apocalyptic world, and also, its a post-apocalyptic, so almost everything died, and the world is full of zombies. They should spawn later if player find eggs or something to repopulate then.
I really like this idea and would totally play it. Deff see some challenges in making all the things you said work but still would be nice.
Just a couple things I thought about
-Zombies AND skeletons could spawn at the behinning, both being of the undead nature. Possibly eliminate the enderman all together.
-The villager idea would be really tough to implement so maybe they could be found naturally deep underground as if they went down there in search of protection from the deadly above ground world? They would be rare and never found in groups so that you can't get a village up and running in no time.
-Some kind of item to make the villager follow you like wheat makes animals follow.

Good idea! I will add it to the main text, but a bit different.

...Impressive. Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to implement. But the restoration requirements for chunks to be considered "restored" (lighting returns to normal) should be "floating", being fulfilled when any of the conditions are true (these are just suggestions, but they seem good to me):
100 Tall Grass
3 trees
1 large Jungle tree
50 flowers/roses
and so on.

This gives it the feeling of an actual adventure map...not just like a survival map with the post-apocolyptic elements.
Right now it is just like a mass extinction occured, leaving nothing but the wilderness. This idea is suggesting a world in which the landscape was decimated and everything (animals, plants, and even physical structures) are destroyed
thing is that theres already an apocalypse mod, what happens is that the sun gets like a hundred times closer to the earth and burns everything up.
He doesn't want a mod though, he wanta new game mode and I am sure that the ideas here are different than those in the mod. Do you have a lnk to it btw?
There IS a mod for that. I don't remember what it's called. it makes the whole world into a post apocalyptic city, adds guns, excessive zombies, and what looks like a general, overall CREEPY mood/setting. warning: Steve somehow acquires a foul mouth...
Just google 'minecraft 1.2.5 world type mods' and do some scrolling and it should pop up somewhere in one of the results. sorry i cant give you more info. and fyi, this can't be a simple seed. seeds generate the normal world. even with a mod, you couldn't type in one seed to get a city and another seed to get the regular world. that's not how it works. Still, though, I KNOW there is a mod that adds that as a world type, or a separate dimension or something. :DAha! here's one of them: it's called: WASTELAND MOD. Deryago!
Idk why everybody thinks that saying there is a mod for the idea is a legitimate response. If we wanted a mod we would get it, not make a suggestion. Guns were not a part of this suggestion nor was excessive numbers of zombies. It is a normal minecraft world essentially just with a few post-apocalyptic tweaks.

Exactly! You got the spirit of the thing! I made this thinking that, something that wouldn't be too difficult to implement, using what Minecraft already has. And thanks!
Well, i can't =/
