I really dont like seeing biomes that could never exist together just hangin out right next to each other, so I had an idea. All desert, snow and jungle biomes should be surrounded by tall mountains, except when they are next to an ocean or a jungle is next to a swamp. This would make every world a lot more realistic.
Yes, realistic biome separation is a must. It should be a relatively fast to improvement, and why haven't I thought of suggesting this!
I got my desert next to a tundra, it completely destroys the feel and atmosphere of living in a desert. I also got a tundra next to a jungle, which makes just as less sense.

Yeah, its not only a good transition, but its also how deserts and jungles in generaly are formed in real life, either by pushing moisture up over the area for a desert or keeping it trapped inside for a jungle. As for snowy areas... Idk, but it still makes sense.
People play video games to get away from realism. If Minecraft was a 100% adaptation of real life, then it would suck.
Try this on for size:
1. Go outside (not in the game, irl)
2. Find a tree, preferably a thick one
3. Punch it
4. Come back and tell me how you feel
*As a bonus try punching the tree 5 times and tell me what happens...

Yes, we all love the way how snow looks right next to a jungle. Adding mountains would only ruin it! /sarcasm
But seriously, there isn't anything wrong with realistic terrain generation. It's not like a mountain chain between a desert and a jungle would look bad. Adding mountains between them so it doesn't look so ugly doesn't instantly make Minecraft a clone of reality and therefore a terrible game, now, does it?
Back, on topic, I obviously and highly support. I don't like that a frigid biome can exist right next to a tropical biome. No harm adding mountains between them.

What I'm trying to say is that it would make it inconvenient to navigate from one biome to another simply because no one wants them to look "ugly" next to each other. Maybe that's just the standard for "reality" in Minecraft, that it can snow directly next to a desert without having any ramifications.
I really don't appreciate those of you who take this extreme "it doesnt need to be realistic because its a game" stance. Why don't we just make the entire world generate out of diamond blocks and have water full upward instead? Lets all put saplings on a crafting table to get iron blocks! It's a game afterall, we can't have it be realistic! Hell, why not just make it a 2d game, you don't really NEED that 3rd dimension do you?
The amount of "extra" work to get over a mountain would be minimal, and if the mountains werent as tall in a particular area there would be no extra work. In addition I've seen plenty of people ask for some sort of real mountains instead of the tall hills and insane plateaus we have now, and what better place to put them than between biomes where they will be useful?

The sole fact that minecraft has "biomes" is enough to push for biome separation, given that biomes are ecosystems that cannot exist without gradual transitions. Why did we add biomes in the first place? It is to replicate the real world, and so might as well make it a good one.
Furthermore, what is survival? It is something we do in the real world, so it makes sense that biomes separation should be more realistic for realistic survival. It also betters the aesthetic, which is a plus for creative mode.

Water falling upwards?? GENIUS!! You get a diamond
I suppose it would only inconvenience those who have built a ton of stuff on/near or around the edges of biomes. They'd have to say goodbye to all their stuff. No big deal. You want realism?? Go outside you mook.

No one said minecraft was realistic. You are ignorant of the fact that people can keep their stuff, but any further world generation would be different with biomes sperations. Can you explain to me why we even have biomes in the first place? There is also no need for name calling, but I guess it is expected of little kids on the internet.

When you make your game, you can add transitional biomes. You insatiable weenies are never happy. "We need this, we need that." But once they finally update the game with all these new changes, you get your panties in a twist about how it's not the same. They obviously optimized the game the best they could for the players' experience, so why not just enjoy it?? I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Well aren't you the biggest of the bunch?? You get a cookie....
Sorry, there's no cookie icon. Here's an apple instead :-( ):

Uh, yes, this IS the SUGGESTIONS section, correct? Not the "shove it up your ass because we aren't listening" section.
And furthermore, the current level of optimization isn't what it will always be, or else we would still be falling into lava at the bottom of our maps. Plenty of new features have been implimented on suggestion, why should this be any different?

Sorry if I came off a little strong last night, I wasn't in the best of moods last night. I'm just sick of everyone wanting the game to appear more realistic for all the wrong reasons. Sorry again for my outburst.
I would also like a bit more realism, plus oasises, and definitely if you get to a high enough point on a montain, it could snow cap, or something. But tummie, i agree with you, the minecraft fanbase sucks! We ask for something, we get it, and then Arrrrrrgh its not the same nyanyanya. hell, im just happy for what Mojang does with the snapshots, and people complain about those, even though they help them find bugs. Rant Over
I agree that biome transition could be a little better, but I'm not sure about the mountain corners thing. Maybe new biomes that are made up of elements of the surrounding ones?
I agree with the opposing side. Minecraft is not a real life simulator. People who want forced features on the terrain are slowly but surely ruining the game for other people. The terrain generator is boring enough as it is, ever since 1.8 hit our clients. Now you are telling me you want even less variation!
Alright people. I'm going to teach you how to find a jungle biome next to a forest biome, since that is a very realistic transition compared to a snow biome next to a desert. Ok, here we go. You ready?
1. Search for one.
That's it. You don't have to ruin the game for everyone else when these types of things you want clearly exist. You just want another thing to not exist. If realism is going to take the variation and fun out of the game, I'd rather have complete randomness.

The corners should be huge mountains, canyons, valleys, all those...
