EDIT: There are 2 mods for this that I just found (here and here), but they both seem to no longer be updated, thus this post is still pertinent!
I have always wanted to play minecraft in 3D, but I lack the properly colored glasses and I don't really like the loss of some colors. So I have settled for normal minecraft, but i recently remembered cross eye 3D. In case you don't know what that is, basically the two images required for 3D viewing are rendered side by side, allowing the user to go cross eyed and merge the two images to make a 3D picture. This has already been done in games using software like iz3d, but i thought it would be a neat vanilla feature in minecraft. Plus I doubt it would be difficult to create considering there is already an anaglyph 3D mode. Here are some screenshots I made that show what it could possibly look like:
if you are unable to get the images to appear 3D (crisply) try or simply search "cross eye 3D" on Google Images.
This is my first post here, so if I have made any stupid mistakes please let me know
An interesting idea, but wouldn't crossing your eyes that long cause incredible amounts of eye strain?

Yes, people would most likely experience varying amounts of eye strain. Surprisingly, though, I was able to watch an 8 minute cross eye 3D video of half life 2 w/o any real strain. It most likely just depends on the person.
I've tried Minecraft with some 3-D glasses from My Bloody Valentine 3-D and it didn't work. Pretty much no depth was added. They are red/cyan glasses too. Also, OT, I pretty much found it impossible to cross my eyes when someone first mentioned this here on the forums, and definitely cannot cross my eyes to achieve this effect.

Great idea! At first I couldn't get the effect right, but after watching the training video, I tried it WOW! It's really awesome. Will cause eye strain if done for a very long period of time, but still an option I'd highly recommend.

Ya, it takes a while to get it down the first time, but once you know how to do it it's hard to forget.
I consider myself lucky to own a pair of red and cyan 3D glasses.
One downside of the colored glasses, however, is that you lose the ability to see certain colors. I was able to try the red cyan glasses a while ago, and things like brick and lava looked like they were shades of gray.

Your banner is a bit broken when some does the cross-eye 3d on it.
The stone brick slab looks like its in the wrong layer.
I took one screenshot, moved slightly to the side, took another. Then i put them into paint.net and set them side by side and switched them if they weren't placed properly.

$100,000 isn't really that much anymore >_>. You gotta make it at least 3 million so the companies understand you're srs bsns.
On the topic: I feel that keeping it as a mod is awesome. though I doubt it would make any serious changes to game code or otherwise. I dunno how I feel about this. I'm mixed as it can be easily done, but it already has been done through mods.
No offence, but You obviously do not know how a 3ds works.
a 3ds uses a sheet with vertical lenses which bend the light from the screen in such a way that one half is seen by your left, and the other by your right. basicly the device already crosses the image for you and you are not.
in other words you are NOT trained in cross-eye 3d.
also eye strain only occurs if your eyes cannot accomodate to the picture because you're not looking at it the correct way. I've been able to watch about 50 minutes of cross-eye video without any problems. and if you don't like it don't use it.
I think it is a simple and beneficial idea, perfect for MC.
support! I might make a banner for this if I have the time.
"the device already crosses the image for you"
That's what I am saying. My eyes are trained for the focusing. And I have no problems of watching cross-eye 3D either.

LOL
If you do this "crossed-eyed 3d effect" and you feel like your eyes are stuck. Look away from the computer, and close your eyes and blink 20 times.
Also, if you do this and you feel fatigue, Stop and let your eyes rest, or even take a nap.
I own a 3DS. My eyes are already trained to try this effect.

BTW, how do you make Cross-Eye 3D photos?
