All mobs spawn near my portal? Really? You've never seen my portal. How the hell do you know?
Gravel is irrelevant to the topic. Netherrack is used to build fiery creations. Soul sand is used as a trap.
What I mean by "near your portal" is, once you get to the open areas of the Nether, you can find every Nether mob except for Blazes, so that makes 'mob hunting' a bad argument.
1. Gravel does spawn in the Nether, so it is relevant.
2. Nether is made of netherack. I don't see why you would have to go hunting for it.
3. There is enough soul sand in one 'beach' to make a good amount of traps.
Fun fact: Shouting "end of discussion" doesn't end the discussion. In fact, it keeps it going by being a really ridiculous line people can respond to with mockery.

Well it is the end of our debate, seeing as you are trying to change the subject.
The Nether was DESIGNED to be hellish. Lava = hellish. Villages = not. Analogy invalid.
If you've ever read Dante's Inferno, played the game adaption or even read the wiki article you'd know villagers work with the 'hell' theme just as much as lava.
OT. I really like this idea. It's good that they're hard to kill as MC is very easy right now, however, purely to appease critics, remove the exposed muscle on the arm.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
-Facepalm- Would people stop bashing this idea? Wtf?
Anyways, I love this. We really need more mobs in the Nether. Idk why, but sometimes it's pretty boring when the only really common mob in there are the Zombie Pigmen.

Mob hunting and resource gathering. Same as anywhere else. You want more? Add something NEW.
Dude, these aren't the same as overworld villagers, they might be of the same category, but they are totally different mobs. It's like saying that a new shadow mob that hides in paintings can't be added because endermen are shadow creatures, even though they are totally different.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
ALL of the Nether Villagers received a damage and health nerf.
Instead, Nether Villagers will not become hostile upon entering their caves. Only when they get hit or witness a player opening their chests.
Added some answers to the bottom of the OP.
The "blood on the bone" arm and horns are no longer a must (but will still remain on the existing images).
-The nerf was needed
-I think they should become wary and keep their eyes on you for a minute before losing interest
-The bone arm looks stupid, makes them look undead, which they aren't.
and I believe they resemble Satyrs more. Otherwise, great idea!
So according to your thinking, since there is lava in the Overworld, it shouldn't be in the Nether? Nether - Lava = BORING. Don't take that literally, it was an analogy of how adding things from the Overworld makes the Nether more interesting.
Give me some reasons to explore the Nether after you have found a fortress, (apart from finding glowstone because you have depleted the resources around your portal).
Wow, there actually are people who agree with me. If Jens was willing to add several new mobs (unlike Notch villagers, these have varying amounts of health and damage delt), AI, and new villages, I'd love to see these in Nether. However, this will probably never get added, unless it's a mod. If that's the case, Modding API needs to hurry the up. I want a much more eventful and varried (terrain) Nether. I wonder what would happen if I had these villages and that Nether mod that adds Tribals/ Tribal villages to the Nether btw..

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Okay, you have asked why green, because minecraft should NEVER have gore (without mods), Dude, you know 5 year old kids play this game, and another thing is these things are WWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY to over powered, especially the mystic and collecter, even enderdragons arent that strong, so why should a non-boss mob be that powerful?
You're saying that enderdragons arent that strong, even though they insta-kill you? And if you dont die from that, you'll probably fall of of a pillar or get thrown in the air.
On topic.... Good idea. I like it.

■"Ok guys, listen up. We're on a top secret mission to get coffee and donuts, problem is the Germans drank all the coffee and ate all the donuts, so now we gotta go kick their asses." Random CoD 3 phrase
Could you lower the damage a little bit sire. The baron, mystic and collector can hit you 2 times and you're done for it. You could also add maybe like a leader or something, attack him all villagers will attack you and rops something rare. Oh and uhhh what does Angry potion does anyway?

You could sustain more hits with armor. You would never want to go to the Nether unarmored anyway.

No, sorry. These guys are tough enough as is, you wouldn't want these guys to gang up on you anyway. This furthers the fact that you want to be unseen when you open their chests. I'll show off the Angry Potion thing soon.
They actually remind me of some representations of the Incubus. Ignore the idiots going on about religious crap, that these ...things...have nothing to do with Any game that includes "demonic" looking creatures would come under fire. There are already religious nuts who think Minecraft is "Satanic" in nature =/
Imo, I'd just call them Incubus. Maybe give them some sort of Health draining ability of sorts (no, not like Vampires An Incubus is pretty much the Male version of a Succubus. Sometimes presented as a sexual predator that sucks the life out of people. Just exclude the sexual predator part, certainly not suitable for the main audience Lol)
Edit: On a side note, this would certainly add a bit more life to the Nether.
I actually really like this idea (and the villager's model).
And I don't really think they're all that overpowered, the player is, after all, a mere mortal entering the dimension populated by lost souls and hellspawn.
I think they should be the number one enemy of the pig zombies. >.>
Because I'd love to see some undead vs. hellspawn action.

Wait, so you want these things to rape you?! Jokes, but I think incubus is a slightly misleading name and that would be a Satanic reference.

Yes, this would add needed variety to the nether. I'd like to add though that their damage should not be always the same, to reflect their unstable attitude, and angry potion would give this to you. These village things would also be more common than overworld villages. Expand on what blood diamonds are, and maybe change the name because of blood diamond being a term. Whatever's their name, they should be more enchantable than regular diamond, and stronger, but only 2-4 per village chest .
It was an analogy... meaning not to be literal. What is hellish about a fortress?
Secondly, all the mobs you need to kill spawn near your portal, and what are you going to do with chestfuls of netherack, soul sand and gravel?
