- They are randomly placed instead of the original texture when placing a certain block (So when in creative you dont have a list of tons of similar blocks and they also look more natural than manually placing)

well, yea but i don't understand why did you suggest this because this is how i should be already according my idea.
Wow. I have been thinking about this same idea for some time. It really is an awesome idea that would make the game a lot more interesting. Maybe someone can make a mod...

It's sad in the post that there's already a mod for random mobs included in optifine and mcpatcher, i am just saying it could work similarly.
You know how much more terrain.png space this would take up? The current terrain.png is almost out of room, and you want 3 textures per block?
Actually, I like this idea. Support, but I can't use my signature. You wanna know why? Check it out.
there would be several additional terrain.png files Poeple need to learn reading the thread first, all of this was pointed out in the thread itself

If you meant that the code was broken, yea it acted strange. A space before the code when you copied it probably caused it, I've removed it and it works for me at least.
Couldn't which texture shows up be determined by a block's x/y/z position? Like, every second block down an axis would be texture B, and every fifth block would be texture C. The next row of blocks would have A, B, and C, at different intervals.

Could be, but then there would be repeatable details every third or fourth block, although better than default. Random placement should make things even less repeatable.

Only going down one row though. The rows to the left and right would have different patterns. I'd imagine it would seem random unless you stopped to count. It's not like there would be an easily discernible grid pattern or anything.

I can see that would get rid of grid problems, at least on a player's scale, but if you want to place a different type of texture ("Wooden Planks from terrain5.png") in that spot it would only ever use that one texture ("Wooden Planks from terrain5.png") for any wooden planks you place in that spot.

"Victory is like a watermelon. It's hard to spell and it tastes good."
I say yes for certain blocks only. Leaves, Ore, Smooth stone, Grass, Dirt, Bookshelves, Cracked and mossy stone brick etc. These blocks would be helped by being random. Moss wouldn't always grow identically, cracks wouldn't always crack identically, Bookshelves wouldn't all have identical books, etc.
agree, these advanced texture scrambling techniques sounds awkward
I'm not sure how it would all work out, but if it was totally random the selected block texture would have to be saved to the block for it to remain consistent. (Unless you have some other implementation in mind) If it was procedurally generated (what I meant by patterns) there would be no such need.

There's that though. I see it as a trade-off, but It could be a problem for the creative types.

I would kill to get this!! >8V -want want want want-
Would be nice if people can just deactivate it if they don't like it too, simple.
And keeping the edge of the block pattern and change tiny bit details shouldn't be a problem when it comes to being connected, something like what painterly pack do for mossy bricks and the one with different flowers.
