Chances are, the Ender Pearls will be used to increase the durability of tools. @jeb_ mentioned on his twitter that he was working on something which would improve tool durability, but that it wasn't actually a new tool itself, simply an item which could be added to the tools. In my opinion, the Ender Pearl seems like it will probably fit that role nicely. But yes, I agree, teleportation would be flippin' sweet- though I think they should just use a variation of the Nether portal to do that.
But perhaps not to overpower it it should teleport you a few blocks away, so maybe right out your front door or in front of that bug tree you grew, etc..

If I helped you or you liked what I posted, please just thank me on my profile! :/
My Ideas:
Smelting an Ender Pearl will give 1 Ender Essence.
This will look like a gooey Ender Pearl.
Combining 4 of these and 1 Glowstone Block (like a compass)
AND 4 gold blocks in the corners will give 1 Ender Rune
You can teleport up to 16 blocks away, and has 128 uses.
Okay guys, some of you are thinking like Minecraft mods here, that's not allowed! You have to think VANILLA :smile.gif: Too many of you have been exposed to mods and you obviously can't think vanilla now, but let's get some things straight...
CREATIVE recipes. Not cobble and iron, like the one posted above.
No adding new items. You need to keep the items in the game how they are.
No being overpowered. 1 Pearl that teleports you is overpowered. 16 is an excellent number.
As stated above, I think making a gate to another world is just a bad idea. I agree with some of the posters above that pearls are gems that shouldn't be able to be crafted into blocks. But I really would love to be able to teleport to your bed or the world spawn.

To actually teleport, you would need two platforms, connected by enderdust (crafting one pearl gives 9 dust). Rightclicking one platform makes you teleport to the other.
Enderdust would be kinda sticky, and attach to walls.
If you try to wire more than two platforms to the same "circuit", it will cause all 3 platforms to break.
My recipe would be this
Sender:
Receiver:
Key:
= Enderpearl
= Any colored dye (that was just the first one I saw)
= redstone
= Iron ;P
My idea is, you step on a sender and it will bring you to the receiver with the corresponding color (with limited use.)
Ender Pearls... how about crafting them to make super strong weaponry? Armor?
Anyways... I love the teleportation and the Sky Dimension portal ideas. (:
Maybe a Portel to like some weird world (not a sky dimension or Nether)like umm oh like a strange land with new blocks or just a normal world but all screwed up and destroyed.
You would have to make an Enderblock for this to work. The enderblock's crafting recipe would be 8 Enderpearls surrounding a Diamond Block. When you use an Enderpearl while this block is placed (it would track who placed it so it would only teleport them to that enderblock) you would teleport to the Enderblock's location.
"That sounds amazingly unbalanced!" You scream as you tear your hair out. Not really. First off, the materials to craft said Enderblock are extremely hard to get. You need 9 Diamonds to craft the Diamond Block you need and Endermen only drop 1 enderpearl and even then it pretty rare for them to do so. Secondly, The enderpearl would be used up when you teleport, meaning if you only have a few then you're **** outta luck. Finally, The teleportation would take about as long as using a portal to go to the Nether, meaning you can't just use this as a "get out of death free card".
There will be ender tools in the future. i think they are going to be as fast as gold but as durable as stone. Upgraded gold? because gold got the same uses as wood.
Alternate use for them that I thought up; magic mirror. Notch would get rid of the ability to MAKE portals in the nether, which means that the only portal would be the one you came in. Now, how do you go somewhere else using the nether? Make a magic mirror then make a portal where you land in the real world. The magic mirror would require at least 4 diamonds and 4 ender pearls. And maybe some glowstone. The magic mirror also has a five minute "Warm up" time before it can be used to leave the nether. And there would be more hostile mobs. This forces the player into a situation where he has to defend while the mirror warms up, then create a portal in the real world.
Magic mirrors would not work in the real world, making a portal would not work in the nether. This could go along greatly with the 1.9 update.
Um how about 2x2(4) ender pearls to create one teleporter. Then craft another and if you place both in different locations you can teleport to either one. It would work the same with more then two. It would pick the first teleblock that you placed and cycle through the locations or when you stop at the place you wanted to be at.
Maybe a Portel to like some weird world (not a sky dimension or Nether)like umm oh like a strange land with new blocks or just a normal world but all screwed up and destroyed.
I prefer this one. The normal world just screwed up and destroyed-- technically the future, I guess. The portal would lead you to a dimension called the "Future", which takes your current chunks and compares them to how they were when you spawned, and then uses your adjustments to those chunks and applies them as extremes, like spawning huge holes, fire, and traps... and possibly Herobrine.
