I've been thinking about some of these for quite a while now and finally decided to see if anyone agreed with me.
First order of business: Closed circuit cameras
The idea here is fairly simple. You craft a camera, and hang it on a wall. You then wire it up to a screen in another room by means of a redstone wire. Implications of this could be wide ranging but the most obvious upshot is remote viewing. So let's say you have a mob grinder that you want to test the efficiency of, but you also want to build your massive ornate pagoda or whatever, since the endpoints of mob grinders tend to be a ways from the places people traditionally build (on the surface) going to the depot of your grinder isn't always an option, so you could make your life easier and wire up a screen on site for remote monitoring. Or you could use it in SMP to spy on your neighbor, whatever.
Second order of business: Motion detectors
These may seem unnecessary since we already have pressure plates, but a pressure plate isn't always practical. This is something you could embed in a wall, or a ceiling that would act the same way. Possible applications include traps, opening doors or activating dispensers in areas where the floor is occupied, or you could use it for remote sensing, so a torch would come on if someone had passed a given point in a hall. Edit: At least one person has said that these are useless as long as we have pressure plates. As such, I am amending the suggestion. It would be conceivable that these could detect the movement of pistons placed in front of them as well as have a set distance ahead of them that they could detect. They could also be used underwater to detect boats or squids that can't trigger pressure plates.
Third order: Light sensors
These would activate once a certain level of light is reached next to it. It could be used to open doors at sunrise for example.
Fourth order: Lightbulbs
These would function in exactly the same way as torches, but would have the ability to turn on or off like a redstone torch. Would be nice for use with the light sensor, turning on your lights at night, and turning them off in the morning. (That would obviously serve only to enhance ambiance.) You could also use it in captured dungeons, turning on the lights to go in and then turning them off again when you leave. The same could apply to a mining shaft which could become a mob grinder when not in use.

Amazing, love them all. Having said that, they area bit overly complicated for what the game offers at present, unfortunately don't foresee them any time soon.
i like them all except the first. useless to me and if notch could even add it, it would take long and wouldnt be worth the lag and bugs on SMP. but the other ideas are cool

No. It is fairly complex and can only be used in one way. The only thing you can do with it is hook it up to a monitor. You can't do anything creative with it. It also doesn't use the properties of redstone, you are just magically connecting it. What would happen if you supplied external current to the wire? What would show on the remote screen? If nothing would change, why use redstone wire in the first place. This idea is exactly like the airplanes mod. While useful, it doesn't fit with the theme of Minecraft (the only thing it is good for is what the designer had in mind, and the players can't use it in a new, un-thought-of way).

No. It is too similar to pressure plates to warrant implementation. Imagine if Notch made another type of wheat, only it grew on sand instead of dirt. While potentially useful, it would be a lot simpler to just put dirt in the middle of the desert and grow regular wheat there. There is no reason to have two kinds of wheat. Similarly, you could just change your design so that pressure plates can be used. Seriously, you are in a world which you can manipulate in any way you want; use that ability!
Third order: Light sensors

Yes. There is nothing like this, except devices using mushrooms, but those do not reset automatically.

Yes. My server uses a plugin (like CraftBook, but only a single feature) which allows jack-o-lanterns to be turned on and off with redstone current. It is a brilliant idea. Currently, the only way to do this is with lava, which has the unfortunate side effect of incinerating everything. It cannot be reset easily either.

I'm organizing a new server that will be better than TJRP. If you can write well or even at all (number one requirement), stay tuned!

I have taken this into consideration and amended my original post to include other features that would make sense with motion detectors. If you still don't like it... Well, I can't win 'em all.

If you think that cameras use redstone magicly, then how can a redstone torch, one block above a powered minecart rail give it eternal power? And how can there be rails that boost you with power of stop you without? The cameras are just as logical as these already implemented features of the game.
What I would say is,
1. No security cameras, other than the use of watching through your neighbors window and watching them do menial tasks, like cooking pork or crafting a pick it doesn't apply itself. And yes sure you could see if you have something in your mob grinder, but whats the point when mobs only spawn within 50 blocks of you?
2.Motion detectors are a pretty cool idea but they're pretty much fancy pressure pads.
3.I think this would be a good idea for puzzles but otherwise not very useful, except when used in tangent with ...
4.Lightbulbs, I think this is a genuinely good idea but i don't want to bring in millions of new materials just to make a lightbulb i think that it would perfectly well like this.
GD-R
R-GD R=Redstone, GD=Glowstone Dust
Keep trying to refine the ideas until they work perfectly together.
P.S. Either "Neanderathalize" the camera or get trolled by the masses who call this game medieval.
Can you please tell me where a monitor and a camera fit any where in this game?
I was thinking that you would use them for remote monitoring of whatever you wanted. Example: Putting one up outside your house to watch what's going on outside while you're underground. But the camera idea seems to be poorly recieved, so I suppose it can go if need be.

Motion detectors can function in places pressure plates can't, like underwater. They also have a longer detect range and can be activated by falling sand/gravel and movement of pistons.
As for lightbulbs, I was thinking of throwing glass in there somewhere, but otherwise that's about spot on to what I had thought of.

I'm just going to try to nip this argument in the bud before it starts. We will have no debate over realism in Minecraft here.

Sorry, but this is too high tech. Lurk around the forums for a bit, see what ideas are generally looked down upon, then see if you should suggest it.
Why is technical advancement looked down upon!? In my humble opinion, they're just what the game needs! Science-fiction makes everything better. Even if it is generally frowned upon to have high-tech ideas. I'm not going to stop suggesting or supporting them. Besides, most of these (save for the camera) appear to have wide support.

Why? Tell me why this is too high tech for Minecraft. Don't say Minecraft is medieval, there is no time frame, plus we have record players and minecarts which didn't arrive until the late 1700's for rail and the early 1900's for record players. During the time between those two inventions we saw the invention of all the circuitry you see here.

I like all of these ideas except for the camera it seems pretty pointless but that's already been pointed out, you just wouldn't use it.
you could make the camera take photos eg (camera+painting+light dust) with this you would get one photo, it would act like a painting so you can take photos of your best buildings and make an art gallery. The photo would be in the camera of course and you would not get it back until you had used it, you could also wipe a photo and get back the painting with bonemeal.
The idea of a camera to take photos is not bad, but this is meant specifically as a video camera. I believe there is a thread that proposes something like you're thinking, you might want to check for that.
motion sensor
I like this idea but I think it should be a lazer that you could stick on a wall, when the lazer is crossed it would send a current (this could have a lot of uses) eg when a minecart crosses the beam the current could light up the tunnel or send a minecart back (but you would need something that could push minecarts when powered). this could also go well with the light sensors.
This is almost exactly what I envisioned. Except it would be a block that you would embed in the wall (no unsightly protrusions) and the laser wouldn't be visible.
