Sorry if someone already said this -- In MP, whenever you open any mailbox, it could display only your mail. So, it would be character-bind, not mailbox-bind. This would solve theif problems.
Good idea but I have a few suggestions.
Suggestions:
-When you send a message make it take 2-5 minutes to get to the other mailbox(not random but for you to choose). There would be a bar/arrow type thing like when you smelt a furnace to tell you how long until the message is delivered.
-The crafting recipe should be changed to this:

-Make it so that a message can only hold 3 items in stacks up to 16.
-Random Color when you place one(?)
Iwas thinking abotu how a greifer coudl use the mail bx to greif..simple send them a bunch of stuff then under the mail box lay TNT mines so when they step on the plates thinking thats what they have to do to open it they will light the TNT then well...you know KABOOOOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHH f course any smart player checks presure plates before stepping on them
I was thinking that maybe for this to be added to singleplayer make a website to keep track of the messages sent and recieved and for the mod to work in singleplayer you need an account on it and so does the recipient and a program is downloaded that when you send a letter it sends it to the website but if your ofline then next time you go online it sends that way you dont have to be online to send letters and it works on singleplayer just my opinion and I have no clue how difficult creating programs and websites are or even mods for that matter just a suggestion would love for this to happen though!!!!
This is a great idea and I support, but how would you handle messages between worlds? Like what if a player has a mailbox in every world, which world would a received message go to?
I would hope that mail would be universally tied to an account, so if a letter is sent to a player, it shows up in all of his/her mailboxes because they are unified. Think about how email works - you have a web client and a desktop client, and new messages appear in both inboxes.
This would be epic. The idea that you could trade with your friends in a single player game is pretty cool. I'd also like to point out how this is exactly like Animal Crossing, even the mail format is the same...
I wanted to make a mod like this, so you could mail people through SSP, put I cant do java worth crap, plus it'd have to go through a non-existing server.
I don't know if this has been asked yet, but would it be possible to move your mailbox? I ask because sometimes people move and it would be a hassle to have to run all the way back to your original house just to pick up the mail.
I like this idea, except for the postbox being made of red wool. Doesn't fit the theme of minecraft, and I'm sure no one here has ever seen a wool postbox. I think it should be made of iron/wood.
Also, if it can be sent across servers, that might cause a problem with Beta Creative server players sending 640 diamond blocks to an SMP server.
