Can someone help me with my problem, I've downloaded the 1.8 pre-release and replaced it with the old minecraft.jar but whenever I go on the launcher it says 1.7.10 and in game it's the same as 1.7.10.

Because they haven't released a 1.8 pre-release, just the 1.7.10 pre-release and the 1.8 snapshots.
