The problem is that their enjoyment is directly at the expense of others.
Technically that is not true. Those others have the option to play on a server in which they can enjoy themselves more. Its not like there is only one server. If people continue to play on the server because they enjoy it regardless of the pay features, then obviously those that are using said pay features are not doing so at the expense of other players.
I strongly disagree. I think this is the WORST thing ever to happen to Minecraft, including clay blocks. Most servers are going down, because people don't donate to servers without expecting something in return. As for cosmetic stuff, most people don't give a darn about that.
I only wonder.. Why? Why would Mojang make this negative move against the community? If you actually think they care about what is "fair" then you're kidding yourself. If you don't like what a server is doing in terms of selling stuff, don't play. Eventually, that server will survive or die by the will of the players.
Anyway, the server I play on is small scale enough that this won't affect me. The community is tight-knit enough that Mojang won't even notice.
This is too much Mojang like one person that I read he said "you Have Bullets in your gun to shoot but you shot one at your foot!" So why mojang why.

Minecraft is Mojang's game and they want it used how they want it used.
If they were "Communist Mojang" like I keep seeing people say, and they wanted complete control, they'd be doing more to make modding harder and make creating servers harder and they'd try to stop us from doing anything that wasn't Vanilla. But they're not. We have so much freedom. We have so much that we can still do.
"Things have been this way and they worked so don't mess with it!"
Things will work with the new EULA, too; things will be different, but they will work. We will adapt and we will see new ways that people are making money... we'll see a lot of creativity come out of this. People always get really, really creative when money is involved.
Whether Mojang is right or wrong is irrelevant - they are allowed to change their own EULA. As to whether that will be good or bad for them as a company doesn't play into it... companies are free to make bad decisions, and we are free to figure out ways to work with that, or we can complain and quit. Stuff's going to work out, guys... but no matter how much we scream that we dislike this, it is going to happen. And, believe it or not, I think after the smoke and fire and rubble clears... it will be beautiful.
It is not Mojang's fault people made a server thinking that they wouldn't have to financially support it themselves.
If anything, people should try to adapt to the EULA instead of pointless banter.
Respond to this: some servers exist purely on the basis of selling plots of land in town areas for real money. What should they do now? How do they adapt to their entire business model being yanked out from under them?
One server I went on had a tier of special ranks for donors only. They could set more homes and had /tpa to teleport to other players, which is basically pay-to-win on a survival server, only donors could access the ender realm, etc. And then a ton of items in the $ shop like bottles of enchanting, mob spawners, maxed out tools, etc.
Another server was survival for all non-donors, but people who donated could /creative and fly around, and the top donors even had world edit commands.
Stuff like this needs to stop, because its ruining minecraft.

I'm predicting complete trainwreck until 2015 when Mojang decides they can't enforce this nonsense anymore and gives up.

Whether Mojang made a right or wrong decision is the entire point of this thread. "It's their game" only extends so far, after all. They have a right to change their EULA, we have a right to complain for our reasons. Unless you can come up with a reason the EULA should remain what it is now that has not been countered by others already, you are not really contributing to the discussion.

Please do not try to make a comparison with something you are ignorant about.... a dictatorship, fascism, or totalitarianism are more fitting words than communist.

They shouldn't exist. Or... since you seem to present a money based server maybe charge entry? Or even have a premium only server.

Why did they create this business model assuming the market would never change / assuming the EULA they read would never be enforced?
Markets change... businesses fall and rise on the waves of this.
That is all this is - the sea of change, and... it takes creativity, but I believe every ship has some way it can stay afloat if done right.

Horrible, horrible answer. You lose, good day sir!

The point of this thread was to inform us of the change that has yet to come.
That's why it's in NEWS and not DISCUSSION.
The point of the comments section was to ask questions that we have about the new EULA, not complain and argue about it. If you don't believe me, go read the 1st post again. It's down near the end.
Look every one is forgetting one VERY important thing, How should servers deal with users who have already spent hard currency on features that affect gameplay?
Users may keep the perks they have paid for, on the condition that the same perks are available to other players on the server (directly, or purchasable using soft currency). It’s up to the server host to decide how to compensate users for previous transactions.
I have spent over £70 on servers and now that money is just going to vanish, puff gone. What do i do now? Chargeback? Its an option. If people aren't allowed to sell stuff like kits then mine craft is just going to turn into survival/mini-games. People want to play game modes like factions and kit pvp but now can't because of how hard it will be to gain stuff and its just going to be the same as multiplayer survival. I think this is possibly the most stupid think mojang have ever done and will see a massive decrease in players playing on kit based servers.
Suggestion: Mojang should take a small tax from all hard currency purchases and allow people who want to play on servers which allow 'Donations' to carry on doing that.
At the moment mine craft is pointless to me, and thousands of other players and server owners.
IF U AGREE, UPLIKE THIS AND MAKE SURE MOJANG CHANGE THERE EULA!
Mojang *may* be able to enforce the no-paying rule, but they certainly can't make it so everyone has the same stuff.

Um you are so wrong
"Please keep all discussion as civil as possible! This is a very hot topic, and we understand that there are very strong feelings about the EULA. That's okay! Open discussion is a GOOD thing!"
It is not Mojang's fault people made a server thinking that they wouldn't have to financially support it themselves.

Actually, its quite alright for people to speak up when they see something they disagree with, if it wasn't...you should also not be talking.
As for financially supporting a server themselves, its generally not feasible for the large servers.
I honestly think the best option, for those that disagree with the move is to move on. Will it cause Mojang to change their mind? Nope, not likely. Petitions, boycotting, etc. isn't likely to change a thing, however, by speaking with the server owners of the servers you enjoy and asking them to move their content to a new platform with a more open environment, you not only ensure that your current experience is maintained, you may also end up with a better one (due to easier modding capabilities, faster engine, etc.).
I love Minecraft as a platform for creative content. I believe Mojang's recent movements are stiffling that creativity by denying people the freedom to handle the content the way they wish to present it. People are arguing about whether P2W is right or not, but it doesn't matter, because someone might enjoy it. Those that don't enjoy it are free to seek out their own experience (or create it) just the same. No one should be stiffling another.

You cut my quote a little short. I was using what I saw other players say, and using their perspective of the term.
Legally and morally, they do.

Morally? I disagree. Killing servers owned by loyal players is not a moral decision.

lol, okay.
Should they not exist, or should people simply not play on them if they find it unfair? How weak minded can people POSSIBLY BE?
