I found my first dungeon after stupidly forgeting about the shift key, and I think that mob spawners need to have less of an initial charge up when you first enter the 16 block range, as I was able to just bumrush in there and slam down 4 torches in the corners and it was done, with only one zombert in the center
off-topic: apparently akinator decided you and icy were both pr0nstars, I was trying to beat it and it just decided you and him were "not for children" and declared himself the victor

windoge 8 has the saddest excuse for a BSOD, it just tells you the type of error, no stop code, no nothing, just "something went wrong, all your unsaved work has now been lost to the void that is volatile memory"

You just got lucky. Most of the time, you'll be in spawn range but not in run-there-and-torch-it range

I was heading up a vertical tunnel at the time, so I tried to move fast to avoid an ambush, then I noticed the dungeon at the top

I think in most cases running through a cave system is more likely to kill you then save you from a newly activated spawner. It really isn't a problem that needs to be fixed since few people will be lucky enough to survive and experience it. I've never once encountered an empty spawner while playing BTW because of how risky it is to move quickly.

when i encounter a spawner, 30 out of 31 cases i have battled my way through tunnels and mining shafts first, slowing me down considerably. there's no need to fix things based upon a lucky occurrence.
BTW usually makes things harder. If you get a lucky incident, deeply cherish that and think of it when a Beast devours your soul.
That trying to create a hardcore survival experience with an unknown number of Forge mods installed alongside is an exercise in futility?
But in all seriousness, I've never played it (I think I've played a grand total of 3 or 4 MC mods, and that list hasn't grown in years). Seen a few vids here and there, but don't know enough about it to really have an opinion. I've face-palmed over seeing mini-maps used with it, but that's about it.
I like the mod. its great.... but do you have to decrease the durability of tools to near uselessness? It takes me 4 and a half hours to build a semi decent house and i cant keep using up all my wood, stone, and iron.
It there anyway possible to keep the vanilla durability and still have the game be hardcore? id even settle for wood pickaxes mining 2 stone before it brakes.
they get better as you upgrade your tools. iron is a somewhat more durable than vanilla iron picks, and diamond lasts nice and long. (and if you get a crucible going, you can recycle the iron and diamond for infinite uses so long as you don't break em.)
Later on you get soulforged steel tools too, which have the combined use of two tools in one, plus the ability to guard with them. for early game its pretty much better to build with wood than stone, since stone axes have a better durability than stone picks do, and you want to save your precious iron pick for mining more iron, diamond, and other ores.
Yeah, you're probably just building bigger than your tech level. At the stone tool level building out of dirt and wood is probably as far as I would go. Pretty much everything else is both too hard to work with, and too valuable to use in construction.
At iron and above however, as Psion pointed out, the tools in BTW actually have greater durability than vanilla. So, if you want to build fancy, I'd recommend working on advancing your tech level first.
From what I've found, iron tools have around 500 durability - double the usual, and diamond is closer to the original, but possibly more durable. It doesn't matter too much after the crucible tech level, though.
Are there any major limiting factors on fishing? I know you have to bait the rod, but where should I fish(ex: how deep the water needs to be) and are different baits comparably better than others? I'm using rotten flesh ATM, set my lure down in a river from about morning to 3/4 of the day, then set my lure in some deeper water for the rest of the day, got nothing. Not even a bite. And on another note, I'm about to have to flatten a mountain just to get chickens in my base. Is it safe to pen them with tamed wolves? (I have a fence around about eight full-grown wolves. I barely ever feed them, wondering if they will murder the chickens.)

Try fishing at a different time of day.

Actually their are a bunch of limiting factors. For example you won't catch anything if you fish at night, unless their is a full moon. Fishing during the day is mediocre with the best time to fish is dawn or dusk. Also the rain increases fish bites.
So I basically have to secure the area and fish right before night, or go outside in the morning, slaughter all the creepers (and that one overly aggressive spider that jumps you from the top of your house) and then fish?
pretty much, although as mentioned, a full moon is a great time to fish as well, regardless of time of night. rain also calls em out i believe. it's not IMPOSSIBLE to catch a fish in the middle of the night, but it is rather rare, as opposed to the most favorable conditions where you toss in a bait and it bites in seconds usually.
Will this mod ever get updated again? I really enjoyed it in the days of beta minecraft, just wanted to see if it had changed much...
This mod had updated an enormous amount since then as you can see here. The title even says it was updated just two weeks ago. Please try reading the thread you're posting in before posting in the future. If you're asking if it'll be updated to the newest version of minecraft, it won't, because there's no point, you can easily download 1.5.2 and mod that. Again, if you had read back a few pages you would have seen people asking that same question over and over and over again.

The most recent changes really enhance the experience. I know in it's infancy I could complete the entire tech tree just as quick as the original game- Being in the Nether before the second night. Let's just say he changed that a little. For example, I'm on about my twentieth night and don't even have a single diamond... In fact, I'm sort of short on Iron... And food... And wood... And torches... just about everything is in greater demand and lower supply. Have fun!
And Beta... 1.7.3 I believe...
