A cool idea for that, make a dragon call. It'll only teleport to you if you use it, so it doesn't come to you in a cave. My dragon pushed me into a pit of lava because of that...
I will be working on it. Lets just say I have a small advantage, after work I really don't do much, so I have some free time. As I have stated before I will keep updating this page as I add more stuff. Right now I am trying to get one dragon modeled and implemented to I can use it as a test platform. and the dragon I have pictures up is going to be the test platform dragon.
Also everyone, what do you think of the test dragon model so far. there is something about it that I am not liking, but I will just keep pushing forward and do minor adjustments as I go along. Shoot me some feedback on the dragon model.
Dragons are my absolute favourite, as a modeler and an artist, I can shoot you some helpful feedback. My greatest suggestion would be to take fifteen minutes to study dragon anatomy. If you study how dragons work, you can get a better feel for how they might be in real life if they were to exist. Knowing exactly how the limbs, face, and body move will give you a better feel for where to put the muscles. If you need Minecraft examples on how to make a dragon, then definitely take a look at Dr Zhark's Wyvern from Mo'Creatures. If you need a dragon that has arms that are wings, there is none other than Dr Zhark's wyvern. If you need a dragon with four limbs and wings, take a look at BarracudaATA's Dragonmounts mod. Those two mods are the best Minecraft related resources out there for Dragons. My personal opinion on the model is that I like where you are going with the complexity, but the legs are a little thin. Remember; those legs have to hold up that giant body, so proportions are important. Thicken the biceps on the arms, the biceps on the front legs are usually slightly bigger than the forearms by a bit. http://puu.sh/8mrpL.jpg
Those are good examples of arms on a four legged dragon. For the back legs; make sure they are digitgrade. That means, their legs look a bit like this: http://puu.sh/8mryW.jpg
Dragon's back legs are similar to that of a T.Rex, and are most in relation to the shape of a bird's legs. For the head, I suggest fixing the bottom jaw. The bottom of your dragon's head kinda slopes inwards. Dragons have jawbones, so this isn't a bad reference. http://puu.sh/8mrKm.jpg
In Techne, I suggest making the initial dragon's head one block, like how the Mo'Creatures wyverns are. http://puu.sh/8mrSq.png
The neck could use a few more blocks in the bottom left and right.
Lastly, the bases of the horns kinda jut out of the head a bit, looking unnatural. I would have the entire horn gradually be sloped backwards. http://puu.sh/8mrZL.jpg
Sorry for all the pictures, but it will definitely pay off.I hoped I helped! It's taken me quite a while to learn these things about dragons, but t'was worth it. If you ever need help, let me know. I really want to see this take off!

thank you for all your suggestions, I will defiantly look through them all and take notes. At this moment, I am trying to get the current dragon modeled with all the joints in the correct spot so I can use it for coding and to get other ideas implemented. but I do want to take care of the model so it does not look like a complete fail. Queue my first dragon that I wanted to use for tested but was completely disgusted in it:
yeah, it is horrible.
As soon as i get this dragon done so i can use it for coding i plan on working on the next dragon. It might be a little slower going since i will also be working other aspects of the mod, but that is the cost of making a mod.
now, as i have been modeling the dragon, for the body, i used a tiger body as a reference point for the orientation and position of the fore arms and the soon to be back half. As I model the rest of the dragon, i will defiantly be looking at the images you have posted to get a more correct body shape. I am just a little antzy for I would like to move forward on the programing for a bit. so if things don't look right, bear with me i will make adjustments as i go.
Also keep up the feed back, I really don't have much artistic back ground. However i have learned that you should spend at least 3 hours of detail for ever hour of structure on stuff.

There is a good chance i might use that idea, i really like the call-a-dragon.

Darn you guys, your making more work for me
No problem! If I were you, try to keep the limbs fairly simple. Coding limbs is annoying. On one of my old dragons, I think the back limbs are four blocks and the fronts are three http://puu.sh/8mUIT.jpg
Anyways, best of luck!
I think I'll try to make some dragon models, see if I could help out a bit with that.
However I won't be sticking to that block-like head for them, It just isn't quality looking.

You just have to do it right to make the block head thing work. Mo'Creatures did it well. You have to make the whole model big-ish to get a nice texture as well.

Don't worry about the size, I'm not a fan of small dragons. Still thinking how I'm gonna do the head, we'll see if it works when I get around to it. Currently having some RAM problems on my computer which I'll have fixed later today. Hopefully I'll be able to start tonight
I am excited to see them also, THE MORE IDEAS THE BETTER!!!!!!!!!! ( please read as a happy yell).
Now for my models i have seen a lot of the block type mobs, i just feel i want to step it up a notch. As i model stuff in techne i am also seeing if its possible to create models in blender and port it to java. Unfortunate I have not found a good way of getting blender to port it to java and get the rotation points. but i will still mess around with it and see what i can find.
Ok, so I have updated the image of the dragon, I decided to move more to being able to use the model for coding. I want to get other aspects of the mod being worked on, and not spend all my time on the model. Dont worry, i will be working on the model and other models.
Hey man,
sorry if i didnt reply for a long time I was kinda sick, lol! I saw your comment on how you are kinda unsure about your dragon model and I couldnt figure it out either, but then when i was drawing i realized what it was! You see, when youre drawing the number one problem for people when their drawing in proportions, you get the head to big and the arms to short, and it just dosent look quite right. And you apper to be having this problem with your modeling! Your dragons legs are a wee bit short and its body is a bit stoutly, if you like, i could give you a drawing guide to proportions, tho this is modeling not drawing, but i find they relate quite closley to one another. For me looking at picture references help when im modeling and drawing! Here is a picture that i use quite often when im drawing. I hope it helps!
p.s. I love your idea for the chain armor, and im glad you liked my little slice of nerdiness too!

I'm glad I'm not the only one XD
I said that too, and now that I look back at my own models, I used to have that same problem. That's why learning the anatomy is important.
For the next model i make, i plan on first making a skeleton structure and going form there. with the skeleton i can use it for the correct joint pivot locations and proportions for the rest of the model. Thank you all for your inputs and resources. I am trying to make sure this mod works and looks good.
Hey man, hows it haggin? I haven't checked this thread for a while but nothing seems to have changed... Just wondering if the modder of the year is doin good!
Hey. I am still here and still working on the mod. slowly. My life has become a little full in the past few weeks so working on the mod has slowed down a bit. but if everything goes well (fingers crossed) i will be getting a little more free time to work on the mod and in general everything will just be better. At this moment to just keep you all up to date, I am about 75% done working through the "forge" multi-block structure and 50% through getting the dragon set up for that bit. i do not have a estimated date when I will get this part done but i am working on it. My game plan, is once i get the first dragon up and running and being able to interact with the "forge" (still working on name) and have the forge be able to do something i will try to have a little pre-pre-pre alpha testing. From what i have seen the best way to find bugs in your game is to have people play it. people are great at breaking games =).
ok a little status update. at this moment i am working on switching jobs and the like so my time is low and my general stress is a little high. i have not forgotten about this. so don't you worry.
