The added cost includes the cost difference in both parts and labour. the part is only 10 dollars more, but it also means a technician will have to replace the CPU of the stock unit, and the cost of finding a place for the displaced 4770.

I understand that, but I highly doubt they are paying those workers the amount to replace it and not adding some profit in between. If there is no profit in it, then it must be a high paying job.
Prebuilts is how companies suck the money out of unsuspecting consumers
Prebuilts are what made the PC as accessible and 'Industry standard' as it is today. we have companies like Microfocus and Dell to thank for commoditizing PCs and providing affordable alternatives with more customization options than IBM. Even if they are a bit extraneous today, the facts are the same in that not everybody gives a flying crap about computers. "Oh, but building is Easy" Well, yeah. Building a house is easy in a certain context, fixing a television is easy in a certain context, and writing software is easy too. Not everybody cares about that.
One of the problems I see in IT is that the people with experience in it lack awareness that their vocation is not the most interesting thing in the world to everybody else.

Car people can do the same things sometimes though most realize people are stupid and it is sometimes easier to tell people just to have a shop do it for them.
Changing Brakes and oil is easy I don't see really why anyone would pay to have that done. However without a doubt I am sure a lot of the people here who say prebuilts are a waste of money have paid to have their brakes worked on or oil changed at one point in their life.
Without a doubt your mechanic is making a larger bit of money and profit on his work then dell is making off a computer.

Exactly. Basically, they are providing a service.
Coffee shops sell coffee. Making coffee is easy. So why do they do it? convenience. That person that wants coffee can now concentrate their efforts on more important things like how that Trish that started working in accounting has a bad attitude and OMG is this whole milk *throws back at staff* this is unacceptable, I'll have your job! Oh Great now you've upset me and I've soiled myself! You people should know I have very delicate bowels! And now I'm an hour late for work and this is somehow your fault...
As a personal Example, I'm a programmer (shocking, given my screen name you would expect I was a breeder of fine, purebred Squirrels, right?) and we basically make software for companies that don't want to make software. They want to do their business. a Marina doesn't want to enter the software market or hire their own developers to maintain a massive database of inventory, work orders, reservations, customers, etc. Just as their customers might not be interested in learning the in's and outs of their out-board motor. They just want it to work.
I mean, yeah, stuff like Oil changes are easy. But to some people it is just an unnecessary distraction. People who like cars will take any excuse to pop open the hood; just like folks who like PCs might take any excuse to pop open their case so they can admire their handiwork (or perhaps they have a fetish involving dust), and Cow farmers will pretty much take any excuse they can for sticking their arm up a cow's butt.
"I think Bessie is constipated/I think Bessie is pregnant/I think Bessie might be slow in the head/I think bessie might be a cow"
"Oh? Fetch me my butt glove and some lube, Martha..."
"Oh Simon! You always know just wha.."
"For the cow..."
Now let us take a moment to reflect how I managed to change from discussing the economic factors that allow prebuilts to exist and be reasonable into a discussion about people who like to stick their hands up cow butts.

No, it's called making a profit.
The reason why building your own can be cheaper is because you aren't paying for labour costs and the added on cost for profit.
