On a similar topic, I've been working on trying to get an Iron Golem to spawn on my PS3 world. I read somewhere that if you get enough villagers to spawn, an Iron Golem will spawn by itself to protect the village. I commandeered a small, naturally spawned village and started building little huts. I see the villagers mating. I see little baby villagers running around. I have pobably 10 or 12 villagers in total now, but so far no Iron Golem. Can anyone confirm that Iron Golems will spawn in the PS3 version? Does this only work on the PC so far?
Odds are that you've got too much stuff in the center of town. Iron Golems only spawn within a 16-block-wide square centered at the averaged position of all the doors, and they need a 4-tall, 2x2 clear space to spawn. So if you went to a village where there's a building at the center and put a big ring of huts around it with plenty of doors, you could end up with your required 21 doors and 10 villagers but still no golem. The golem would keep trying to spawn as coded, find that there's ceilings/walls and lamp-posts in his space, and fail to materialize. If you really want an iron golem and don't want to make it look like you built something arbitrary to make the golem appear, make sure your town has a park or the like in the middle - someplace that would suit a town, but won't stop the golem from spawning. Lots of the newer iron-farm tutorials on youtube use a mod to the PC version which will draw out this area for you so that you can see and understand it better. Whilst you can't get that mod for PS3, it might help to watch one of the tutorials to get the visual on what's going on.
Have you made a successful farm on ps3? If so, can you post the link?
Is it possible that the village location can change? I've noticed that the 2 villagers I've found will only move around newly built homes which are about 50 block's away. I built the homes as the last 2 villagers would not go back to the village, if I build more homes with doors will more villagers spawn ? In the wiki it talks about doors being the key to new villagers.

Yes, if you built more houses, the villagers will breed and more will spawn. It is possible to create entire villages by kidnapping them, and dropping them off to where you please.
Okay so after reading some posts I think I will clear some things up.
1) Villager population max is about 30, not enough for a viable golem farm
-I built a farm similar to what I did on pc, after placing 30 eggs it would not let me place anymore
2) Definition of a "house" is simply a door with a block on top of it (well basically) so if you just place a bunch of doors with blocks on top, not directly next to walls, it will count as a door
3) The rate at which villagers spawn is dependant on doors. Villagers will breed until the amount of villagers is equal to one-third the amount of doors within the village radius.
4) To get a mob into a minecart, simply push the minecart into the mob.
5) Golden apples was a 1.4 update, and the console is currently in 1.2 (with item frames).
I'm sure some of this was answered. Most of my experience comes from over a year on minecraft pc, in which my favorite thing to do was build farms. Sadly, mob farms suck on the console due to hardware limiting the spawn rate of mobs.

I'm having the same problem.. Have you made a successful farm on ps3? If so, can you post the link?
Sadly, I do not have recording software and do not produce vids. If you hop on youtube, I'd suggest that docm's tutorial is pretty detailed - the guy seems to do his research before posting a how-to, and is more focused on a simple-yet-effective design than anything else:
I've built a spawning-cell along similar lines and I think you should find what you need there. One key note here is that the needed villager-count in the wiki is 10, but if you read the version-history you'll see that our older version (that's on console) requires 16.
Is it possible that the village location can change?
Yup. They can 'find' a door within 16 blocks horizontally and roughly 2 up/down. This normally gets added into whatever village they belong to, changing the village-center. Then a bug in their wandering routine will often have them crowd a single home. If you want those two to go 'home', you should create a new house ~15 blocks from their favorite, wait for them to be between the two, and destroy the one that's further from town. Repeat as needed.

As long as those 2 villagers are hanging out together when they enter 'love mode', they'll give you a baby villager. They'll do this as long as you have less villagers than your number of doors divided by 3 (roughly). It's an odd thing, but you 'feed' villagers to get them into love-mode by building doors. For best results, pen your villagers in a mid-sized building, and wallpaper the outside in doors (or look up how to build an infinite breeding cell after you get a third villager...).

Thanks, I seen this video too before. Looks really good and effective, just a tad too big for me. I found my problem tho. I only had 14 villagers so I let a couple out and the remaining started spawning again. It looks like a mess right now but I'm finally getting golems in my trap.
If it makes you feel better, the first spawning-cell I built was a duplicate of one I did on PC - so it didn't work because it had the minimum 10 villagers for PC edition. < shrugs >
I also tend to build smaller than docm's design. The golems are only supposed to spawn in a 8x8 area around the central point of the village, so a cell that's only 10x10 inside should easily cover that area. If you're doing that, I suggest putting half-slabs everywhere to prevent the golems spawning where not wanted if something tweaks the village center somehow.
With only 21 doors required to get golems, I have a design that's essentially a 14-wide square with 12 doors on two opposite sides and individually-penned villagers on the other two sides so that they remain viable for trading (fingers crossed for next update on trading). On PC, that evolved into surrounding the spawning-cell with doors, those will a row of glass, and then building a prison outside that so there's trades all the way around. The glass keeps the doors as viable houses even though the villagers can never reach them, and the celled villagers provide trades whilst keeping the doors active as part of the village..
So can you Spawn Villagers or not with the PS3 version???? and if so how???
I have read each post but it’s going back and forth "yes you can" "no you can't" or "I'm not sure" so which is it????
And then it starts to confuse me because where I thought you all were talking about Spawning Villagers, you go into talking about spawning golems @.@
I just need to know about Spawning Villagers so can someone shade some light on this for me? Thank you

Not true, I have four pods with 8 villagers each. There are also 2 in my mob sorters, and several running around in the naturally occurring villages. I'm not sure what the max is, but it isn't 30. It might be they need to be spread across more than one chunk?
They do not spawn on their own after the world has been generated. If all your villagers died, you must either bring them from another village to repopulate, or use creative to spawn them from eggs.

Well that sucks; for I have a personal map I use but it’s on survival/hard and I never looked around for any village with villagers and by now they are probably already dead so I was hoping if I fine one and fix it up they would start to spawn but ooo well thanks for the info.

Minecraft Job=Tree Puncher (Because only a Man punch’s trees for a liven). . .
Dito shame there is no fix other than going into creative. Which I guess is no biggy if you have all your awards and dont care about the leader board ( which is full of hackers anyway)

You can trick villagers into breeding. You need at least two to start with and you basically start building houses around them. When the village gets big enough, the game spawns iron golems to protect the villagers. Some of us built farms specifically for the purpose of getting iron from the golems.
If you need more villagers, you would have to steal them from another village. Make sure you have enough rail (and patience) to transport them.

yes.. im building villages so i can spawn some folks when i have all the awards
I have platinum already so awards aren't the problem but IF they get the leader boards recording progress correctly I would want my main world to be eligible. lol btw if you want fall distance jumpstack to the sky limit, put a bed, sleep, and jump off... sad but effective.... haven't tried it yet but a rubber band on a joystick overnight or ps button freeze might work

Good news! If there are villages in your world you haven't been near yet, the villagers will be fine. Monsters only spawn within like 128 blocks from you, so zombies wont kill them.
(Without the hoppers, of course) on my PS3 world, and it works great. As long as you do have villagers available (sorry guys who lost all of their villagers) this definitely works on the PS3. If anyone is interested in seeing it in action, feel free to send me a friend request with 'iron golem' in the message and I'll show you around my world sometime.
You can cure zombie villagers... Just throw them with a splash potion of weakness and feed them a golden apple, it takes ip to 5 minutes, I have tried this and it does work

Okay I should have clarified, golden apples did not yet have that functionality
