Now that we're starting to get some texture packs with blocks everyone will recognize how come we don't have the ability to use whatever we want when we join a game? Sure, it may bring this type of situation:
P1: Hey does this look good *Using Plastic Texture pack with house made of Cobblestone and Sandstone*
P2: Nah that looks ugly. Bad mixture *Using default texture pack*
but instead of people arguing what texture pack they should use they should be able to use what they want. I know this comes up too often for bad reasons, but this is one of those "PC has it" kind of things
It wasn't until version 1.6 that the PC changed the support code for texture packs that enabled the use of multiple texture packs at once.
Say what? I could've sworn using coteriecraft in 1.3 while playing HGs... And It was one I downloaded. Unless your talking about the beta version, I don't know what your talking about.

You are talking about resource packs, right? What Gidy800 is trying to say is that you have the ability to use the plastic texture pack while I use the default pack but we are in the same game. He doesnt mean the ability to mix texture packs, am I explaining myself right?

I am sure he got confused with using two texture packs at the same time (by the same person), I also got confused because that ability came in 1.6 with the resourcepacks but I know what you are trying to say, I am sure 4J will change this in the future so everyone can use what texture pack they want

Yes, thank you. I was indeed thinking he was wanting to use two different texture packs at the same time; that is, selecting this block from one and that block from another. My understanding is that, before resource packs, one had to basicially modify the texture pack using a photo editor to accomplish that. I was not thinking about different users in the same world online using a different texture pack. The issue with that may be how the Xbox hosts worlds differently than an actual server; but I'm not sure on that.

Little bit confused, but what I meant it was we have the ability what texture pack to use before we load or join a server, but not the usage of a resource pack and a texture pack in a server. For example, using the Plastic Texture pack and the Natural Texture pack in one server. Each player will be able to identify each block, but it may pose the same problem PC users have when it comes to looks of a building. Then again, it's just great to use your own selected Texture Pack over what the host has decided to use.

This is Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Not Minecraft On the Xbox. We are going our own way after TU14 and have started since TU9. SO you can't exactly just use that as an argument.
I think it's just the mere lag it will cause, even on the PC there is a sudden lag spike when switching, but for consoles it will have to re-load the game anyways like Assassins Creed and other games do when you change your outfit.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

Why would there be lag if you select your texture pack before you join the game? Are you talking about too many people using different textures would cause lag? I don't see how that's possible unless we somehow got a 32x Texture Pack.

As I recall, what 4J said was that they were discussing going our own way with Mojang. We've never heard back from them on the outcome of those discussions... So, it's still possible that the Xbox 360 Edition isn't being allowed to really go it's own way very far. As creator of the game, Mojang is still the one who would call the shots as to just how different from the PC edition they will allow the Xbox 360 Edition to become.
I don't understand why you would join the game with a resource pack like mass effect, but yes it would be nice to have it as a option.

You clearly didn't read my post as I said nothing about 32x textures and multiple people using different textures.

Back around TU3 and all that, 4J studios made it very clear after the PC Equivalent of 1.3 we would be going our own way.

“We’re going to be discussing with Mojang where we go after version 1.2.3,” says Burns. “Some ideas of taking the game in a different direction from PC having been raised already”.

Everyone is misunderstanding what he is trying to say. He wants everyone in the game to use their own packs instead of the pack the host is using. He's not asking why we can't change packs mid game...

I'm with you on that. The blocks in the ME pack are so different that people probably would have big communication issues if some were playing with the pack and others not. Right now, though, the ME pack is the only one out there other than the default pack... So, right this minute, we don't really know for sure whether or not the straight-up texture packs will behave differently than the mash-ups and we don't know whether other mash-up packs will be more conservative in how much the individual blocks are changed.
Also, the trial version of the ME pack was essentially put right into the TP bar (i.e. I didn't have to go specifically to the Minecraft store to download it). Whether future trial mash-up packs and texture pack trials will be introduced the same way is also unknown at this point. I anticipate that some of this procedure will have to be changed as more mash-ups and texture packs become available. Hopefully, that will include the ability for individual online players to pre-select their desired pack before (or just as) they are joining a world... and hopefully, it can be done so it won't lag the host Xbox so badly that everyone gets kicked.

I agree, and this is perfectly possible, without any added lag anywhere. Everyone sees the game world according to the textures they have loaded on their individual machines. There is absolutely no technical problem with this. If it isn't allowed, it's a policy decision--and a bad one, I might add.

So we agree there isn't a reason for this not to happen?

So we all agree, there is perhaps no technical reason for this not to happen. If it's policy standing in the way, you can rant and wail regarding it being a bad policy all you want... it still doesn't necessarily change a thing... unless 4J, Mojang, and Microsoft all agree to change it... just saying.

What he's trying to say is if the host is using the plastic pack, why can't I join his game using the Mass Effect pack, or the natural pack?

You said lag, I said what might cause lag.
I do play a indie game that allows both.
