I know everyone is excited about The End (me included), but I heard about this beach biome and I was interested. What exactly is this beach biome? Does anyone know? I tried googling it but no real good answers. Is it perhaps a 360 exclusive?
Beaches usually generate next to oceans and cover all nearby shorelines. They used to come in two varieties: sandbeach and gravel beach. Sandstone is located below sand in sand beaches. Gravel beaches had no such border and thus pose dangers like falling into caverns located right underneath them. A usual sand beach before Beta 1.8
A gravel beach before 1.8
Due to the changes in the terrain generation algorithm in the Beta 1.8 beaches were removed completely from the game
It's not an exclusive, they were in 1.7 on computer and Xbox then 1.8 came out and it was removed on both computer and Xbox versions of it.
They added it back in on computer and now they are adding it back on Xbox.

I think we're getting 1.7.3-style beaches back. If I'm not mistaken, the only beaches they have on the PC version are ones where the natural shoreline is just replaced with sand. There's a big topic about the terrain in the PC discussion section, one of the gripes is that they still have "sucky" beaches.
If I'm right, the beaches probably won't be a biome, and will likely just be a terrain feature. It might mess up seeds, but biomes probably won't shift.
They aren't, they are ugly and annoying. Let us see if gravel beaches are added back in, I doubt it since they only said beaches and that gravel has a new texture.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

People be hatin'.
Or maybe they simply were referring to beaches in general.
They never specified only sand would be added.
Real life gravel beaches are beautiful, but it's slightly lacking with minecraft's textures, IMO
I don't know, they are re texturing the gravel in sync to the pc version. I actually like the older texture. Looks like small rocks instead of pebbles. And i agree, real life gravel beaches are amazing Especially if there is a river flowing down.
