Animals do not despawn - I kept 9 animals (3 each of sheep, pig, and cow) in a pen while I went to the other side of the map and worked for 30 minutes or so. All animals remaned in the pen. (in fact, I started with 2 of eazch type and 1 baby of each type). By the time i came back i had three of each type, so the interim period was long enough for the babies to grow up.
If you have animals despawning it is a bug and should be reported in the bug thread.
Wool did not re-grow on sheep until 1.2 or 1.3. The answer is to breed and then shear and kill the babies.
I'm good too. My 20 plus chickens in my chicken pen are still there and not invisible as others reported.. Though I'm trying to breed them and they do some weird chicken dance.. and didn't produce.. but I didn't take forever "observing" though pigs bred in like 10 seconds.

definitely a bug - could be of the "invisible mob" variety or the "glitch-through-fence" variety. I have heard both reported. I have seen animals (and hostile mobs for that matter) "jump" on each other's backs to get over a single-high fence. (it's actually more like one mob pushes under another mob as the first jumps up and down by the fence and this forces the jumping mob through the fence).
I too have had a similar problem. I had 6 sheep, 2 pink, 2 orange, and 2 light blue. I used wheat to coral them into my fenced in area and then... well you know about the birds and the bees lol, then let them breed by color and then after their cute itty bitty bobble headed babies lol I went to oneside of my map and then right back and they where all gone. my coral was empty lol. but I had 2 other corals, 1 with 2 cows and a baby and 1 with 2 pigs and a baby in the same area a and they where still there, but my dang sheep ran away. now I know how Bopeep felt lol.
Seems like the attach fence to block thing didn't help... hmm... The only thing I have had problems with is a glitch... Which is known on the pc edition... Where animals when penned in will look like they are jumping in a strait line through the fence or area they are penned into. Then they go back in very quickly...
this would be a graphical glitch in that respects. Never had any problems with anything else so far, but like the 1.8.2 update... I am once again in search for a world that I can play survival on. However none meet the requirements, since apparently not all worlds even have a fortress in the nether.Or well at least one seeable on the surface... Haven't found a seed yet with one that I actually like the overworld as well.. It was hard enough to find a world in the overworld that I liked, but to also have to find a combo with a fortress too.. *shakes head* OH well at least I get to see many great worlds go down the drain...lol

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Built a mooshroom farm into a cave in a mountain, left it there with 2 mooshrooms, came back and there were 9, so no problem with me personally. The mooshroom calves are adorable, despite their freaky doll eyes, all black and cold.
I'm sick of people trying to defend this update with their every last breath. This update is very disappointing. Breeding is pointless, I've been waiting so so so so so so looooooooooooooong for this update since May 2012. Can't wait for a new PC so I could actually play something where the game plays properly.
This is my opinion, you can disagree. (Don't say "IT'S NEVER HAPPENED TO ME SO IT DOESN'T EXIST LOLOLO!" )

Why even play on the 360 then? Is it to troll those of us that prefer console to PC? You know, they work their asses off at Mojang and 4J to make this the best game they can on 360, and you come back with this?
And for the record, I'm not defending the update, I'm defending the people that care enough to work on it. They could have just released it bare bones and been done with it, but instead they choose to be vigilant and release constant adjustments to make it a better a game for us. That is who I'm defending.
Just out of curiosity, does anybody know if 4J utilizes game testers or are we kind of like their game testers. Not complaining about the game itself just wondering how so many bugs can constantly happen after each update.
Do they have a team of testers go out and play certain seeds for a few days to watch for bugs? A lot of these bugs are pretty obvious after only a few hours of playing. I kind of sense they are dependant on us to be their testers.

If you follow the bug-thread, 4JStu and Steve have both come on several times and said, "we don't see anything like what you're describing on our retail builds." That means, "Yes, they have testing servers and do check the code in real-life environments." Note that they also usually follow-up with a request for more info so they can try to re-create the situation.
BTW - to the the PC elitist above. There's a reason their called "bugs." It implies that they don't show up all the time. (If it showed up all the time it would be called and "error" and would be fixed before release) It's just as important for 4J to hear about all the situations in which a potential bug is not happening because that helps them narrow down the specific cause. The causes are almost always variable values that go out of bounds, creating cascading errors. You don't debug by going and looking at the code, you debug by re-creating the bug as best as possible in your development environment and then reading the variable values at the time to figure out why things are going south.
i think you have to feed your sheep wheat for the wool to grow back
Nope, if you feed them wheat, all they want to do is make babies. They are supposed to eat the grass/tall grass to regrow their wool. The regrowing of the wool is in a later update...correct me if I am wrong, most likely I am.

Seriously? 4J was probably told by Microsoft to rush the update as hard as they can and release it before Christmas. I would have gladly accepted a bug free update in January or even March 2013! I have only played minecraft on the PC only for a few minutes because my computer overheats and shuts off. But at least in those several minutes, I didn't experience a glitch every 2 seconds because the update wasn't rushed.
buggiest update so far, I'm guessing 4J rushed it to get it our for Xmas, I'd rather wait a bit longer than have to put up with all these bugs.
Edit: why do some of us get these bugs and others not?
That's the nature of bugs. If it didn't work at all for anyone they wouldn't have released it. I would much rather have all this stuff now than later simply because now I have more than I did previously. At least the game isn't crashing and scuh.

I need to give out more reputation. I'm not used to the system, but I see so many helpful posts. D: Sorry if I forget you!
Damnit.
Hopefully this won't happen w my mobs fenced in.
I currently have 3 black sheep, 4 gray sheep, 3 light gray, 4 white

Then i went walkabout the rest of the map and returned.
They were still there.
