So when we migrated from the 1.7.3 equivalent to the 1.8.2, all the biomes shifted because we got the new biome and the new biome coding.
And it's happening again this update, since we're getting the new mushroom biome. I've seen examples of this happening on the PC version, where lakes froze over, deserts got snowed over, and snow bimoes suddenly saw rain after making the full release 1.0 upgrade.
So is that going to happen to us? I personally don't care so much since I have no problems starting anew, but I remember the hubbub when this first happened.
If, and I strongly say if, it's like the PC, the maps we have are just fine. The new biomes, mushroom and jungle (when/if we get it), don't change the coding to the structure as a whole. Meaning when we load our maps it's not going to suddenly make our desert into a taiga. If you want the new biomes a new map is going to be needed to be made like any other update for the new structures.
Was I the only one who didn't care?
I had a forest-to-desert shift and I personally thought the the trees and ground looked beautiful with their "autumn" colours.
But yeah, it'll probably shift some with confused pine trees and snow where they don't belong...again.
In the 1.0 that they are thinking about I don't think there will be much of a biome shift, especially since the only possible biome they are probably going to add is the mushroom one. That one you would have to have an ocean map for, as that is where it usually found, in the middle of the ocean.
I believe that when jungles come out some maps with only shift a little, as it is just adding a biome to it. The coding for it will not change as drastically as the 1.8.2 did, but there will still be minor generation changes...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I'm not creating a new map with this update, and I guess the weather may change a little, or at least I hope it does not change as drastically as it did with the last update.
It doesn't rain in my house anymore, and that's the only frustrating fact of the last update. I love rain! :x

yup. climate change made things interesting. it provided change and backstory to "this used to be a tropical paradise, until the snow came.."
I wish we had more natural disasters. flooding. asteroid strikes, zombie outbreaks.
I purposely left a 1/4 of my map unexplored hoping that the new biome will populate there... probably won't though. :/
I hate starting new maps... if it doesn't I'll probably leave it unexplored and see if the jungle pops in there when that comes out.. if not, then I'll def start a new map.

Biome shift shouldn't happen, but seeds may be different, because the Hill biomes (Like ForestHills) will also be added to makes forests, taigas , and deserts less flat.
So people are lying to you. Because everyone loves rain!...
... Right?
I mean, that calm sound of water pouring over the roof, and even if it's a storm, thunders in minecraft look so cool.
Lightning in Minecraft looks cool; thunder just sounds cool. (Sorry, couldn't resist that admittedly nit-picky correction.) I do understand what you mean though. Since they fixed the thunder sound file awhile ago, I often find myself pausing while I'm mining just to listen to the thunderstorms. A lot of people don't seem to like hearing the thunder deep underground, but I do like it. In my 404-like challenge that I'm currently playing, it "connects" me to something that's occurring on the surface and, on a practical note, whenever I hear thunder, I can actually guess that it's probably nighttime or close to it.
I'm going to guess that whatever changed so drastically in the last update will probably change pretty drastically this time as well. I stopped playing on my old world even though it was my main world all summer long. It just turned so ugly. I liked having a dense lush green forest, but then it turned awful colored, that I couldn't bear to look at it any more. Plus, it didn't have any of the structures in the world.

I need to give out more reputation. I'm not used to the system, but I see so many helpful posts. D: Sorry if I forget you!

That's pretty much exactly what I think. If a mushroom biome or jungle biome would be slated to go into an area of the same seed where you've already explored it and have a different biome there, the weather may not exactly match what you've previously generated. However, what is the weather like in a mushroom biome and how different is it from most of the other biomes already in the game? Can it snow in a mushroom biome? Does it rain a lot? So, you might see a little rain in an already generated desert or it might start to rain in an already generated snow biome; but I don't think you're going to see snow start falling where it doesn't fall now in 1.8.2. I also think the switchover to ANVIL (if it's happening in this update or if it happens in the next) changes how the system interprets climate, potentially making this a non-issue once that switchover is made.
