Yeah, I'm getting the same problem every time I join my friend's server.
It used to work until tonight, when I just kept trying and trying over and over to get on.
I says someone's online (1/8) and the wireless bars next to it are all green.
But every time I try to get online, I get the ionettyhandlertimeoutreadtimeoutexception error.
Is there a solution other than restarting the server?
I'm getting these same errors. I was able to play on the server, any server, just fine for over a month once I moved, and now, I'm suddenly getting booted constantly. Either after ten minutes of play when I think I'm home free, right when I join and nothing updates (chests, mining, mobs), sometimes I'll log in and be falling in the world of nothingness until I get booted. Other times I load stuck halfway in the ground and have to jump out like the passive mobs you sometimes see half buried in the ground jumping. Chat won't update, or chests, so I get an idea when I'm getting booted, but more often than not, I'm booted within the first ten second of being on a server.
It's frustrating beyond belief!! This computer is hooked up wirelessly, my bf's computer is wired and I have no problems with his. My computer does not lose internet connection as far as I tell 'cause everything else continues to work. I've tried reinstalling MC, tried re-adding the server, tried cleaning up my computer in case something was causing it. It's frustrating as hell, others aren't having the same problem, and it's ever server I go on to. This is about five days now, and it's driving me nuts. Like, I want to rage quit but then it boots me anyway.
have i have this same problem.
it could be your antivirus software. may be the problem
i have kaspersky if any of you do then its the antivirus software that is making this error.
I don't have a antivirus or anything to protect my computer, I still have this problem
I have the exact same error!!! I play on a very big, laggy server and I suffer from the exact same error code! Before I get the error, my Minecraft goes silent and nobody moves, then I get kicked with the error.

Please, please come up with a bloody solution!
THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENS TO ME!!! I SUDDENLY GET TPED TO THE VOID OR SOMEPLACE WHERE IT'S TOTALLY EMPTY!!! I GET KICKED OFF!
Ok, I run a server with Multicraft and have been suffering the same error and of course my players too.
Here's what I found, and what worked for me. I noticed that the error popped on my face whenever certain player was trying to login. Everytime he entered the server, he got a "Internal server error" message, and everyone else trying to log in got the infamous io.netty error. People inside the server got kicked with io.netty too, and the server was no longer accepting any player. The Multicraft panel showed every player that tried to enter, like if they were still inside playing, only there was nobody inside. After a server restart, everything back to normal UNTIL this player tries to log in again, and all the ritual repeats on. I tried Region-Fixer to check the integrity of the files and the world, but it reported no problems whatsoever, not even a single corrupted chunk, nor player files.
What I did was I deleted the .dat file belonging to the player causing the issue (it's located inside the world folder in the server, and it's named after the player, for example my file was Liederkranz.dat). By deleting that file, the server had to create a new one when the player logged in. Obviously he spawned in the spawn point with an empty inventory, a fresh start. That solved my problem. So far, so good. I hope this helps.
now here it the weird thing.
when im at my house using my interweb (optimum) i get no error whatsoever.
my friend gets this error alot and usually cant play on my server.
when i went over his house, i then started to get the error.
can back home and everything was fine.
maybe the internet or port connections from our homes to the server is whats causing the issue (World of Warcraft has a similar issue where one of the connection on the east coast for optimum users went down so certain servers couldnt connect. the "route 12" problem.)
just saying, maybe its just a connection issue in general causing it.
In my case the server is running on an old computer too and the memory is almost always close to 100% usage. However this never presented a problem (or at least I never assumed it had something to do with the error), and I even resolved the issue deleting the player file causing the problem as I posted couple of messages above. The thing with the memory started after the horse update, now that I remember.
The same problem is happening to me but the owner is hardly ever on! Is there another way?
Please tell me if there is. Also, the direct contact thing... does not work at all. I tried a million times! yesterday it was perfectly working, i logged out, then it didn't work again! I tried just typing it in instead of letting it go by itself cuz it's saved from me playing it so much, it worked! Now today, I tried even that. It doesn't work anymore. Please help!!!!!!!!
I am having this problem to, but the entire server isn't crashing, and everyone else is fine. I have a great internet connection, and I have tried everyone's suggestions, and nothing works. I want to add this so people know that this is still happening and it is a big deal, but I am also wondering, are all of you having difficulties connecting to modded servers? I don't know since we are in the Modded Client Support section. (I'm not using a modded client)
When will this problem be fixed Mojang!? i can never decently play on my favorite server without being disconnected 100 times a day. My internet can be flaky but i never completely lose connection.
I'm sure this hasn't been overlooked but I brought my server down for a little bit last night to work on it. When I fired it back up, I thought it was fine. Then my buddy at work tells me he can't get in. But it was the "authentication failed......sorry" error. So I traced that back to dns/time issues and changed some dns issues on my turnkey server. THEN I started getting this same error here "....IO.NETTY...." I figure great, something different, solution is on the way. That is till I got here and saw....hmmm maybe not. But once I got the system time updated on my server (it was running 15 years ahead of me. I should have asked for lotto numbers first I guess) all was well. I logged in, NETTY was gone and now we are all back in business. Again, I am sure this will probably help no one but hey, I throw it out there hoping someone can build something from it. Good luck and God bless.
PEOPLE LOOKING AT THIS: First of all, when you are kicked from a server for this reason it is ALWAYS the server's issue. Re-installing MC and changing your current version will not help you at all with this problem. This should usually be obvious if you know that other people on the server have the same problem. Second of all, this is almost always caused because the server has been unintentionally closed (crashed). Which usually happens when 1. The PC that the server is hosted on has a faulty internet connection, 2. The server has run out of memory and is struggling to stay open, or 3. A player could have used cheats to cause the server to reset to a previous version when there were no unfamiliar commands being executed. Also note that direct connect will not change the situation either. If the server doesn't allow people to connect then a different WAY to connect to the server will not help... You just have to wait for the server to start. Hopefully this was helpful.
Ok, I'm seeing a trend in this. We all care about these servers, and we get ed off when we can't get on them. That means you have to spend a lot of time on those servers. Now I'm no genius at these things (actually pretty dumb) but I think the only reason there are other people and why there aren't any other people is because we spent hours on these servers, and the new 1.7.4 bukkit (maybe vanilla) servers can't take the tons of chunks we load by every tick we're on there. Just an idea.

It works! . Well, for me.
Nothing should be here. Here's what I found, and what worked for me. I noticed that the error popped on my face whenever certain player was trying to login. There's a reason why the error says internal
