Still getting black screen on far mode....I so sad!
I just wanna play on far screen, any fix insight?
Edit:
Quote from FntX »
please watch your task manager at which memory size the game goes BSOD (Black Screen Of Death :tongue.gif:)
if i'm not totally mad there is a serious memory problem :wink.gif:
//Edit it does so when it [JAVAW.exe] reaches 900MB size, not 940MB as i said before...
Now I just recently checked this out, and my JAVAW.exe was holding around 938-940MB for a good 10 mins while on far render distance at full quality and didn't show signs of going black screen on me. I don't know what the heck could be going on with this black screen stuff.

"Wow, nice beard bro..."
"Yeah, it's made of AWESOMENESS!"
This is the procedure to fix this problem, for most cases. NOTE: If you have any mods installed, it will remove ALL of them, but it should get the game to work again.
Also, Minecraft should be closed before you start this process.
Try this (download version of the game only):
1. Open the Minecraft launcher.
2. Next to the login boxes there is a button that says options. Click it.
3. Click the button that says 'Force Update'. Close the options window.
4. Try to login. Minecraft should update all of it's files, and it should work.
-----------------------------
For the browser version:
Go to your Minecraft folder.
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\.minecraft
Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Mac: YOURNAME\Library\Application Settings\minecraft
Linux: I don't use Linux. Google search it.
Then, go to the bin folder. When you are in the bin folder, select all the contents of the folder, and delete them.
Next, restart Minecraft. The game should update all of it's files, and it should work.
Note: Both of these are accomplishing the same thing. However, the browser-based version does not use the launcher, which allows the easy option. There is no reason to do them both, as that would just be doing the same thing twice.
Also, please check the age of a thread before you post to it. This one is from 2009. If you need help on a current issue, you can go to the support forum, and post a new thread, here: viewforum.php?f=17
As it has been brought up, I just wanted to reply to your reply khashai.
This does not work to fix the black screen issue. The "only" solution I've found is that when you've used your computer for some time, it's RAM memory get's "dirty". ie. filled up with resource hogging and undead technical schnozy stuff.
Alright, so what's the solution? Well, for me I just restart my computer when the black screens happens more often then 10 minutes apart.
After the restart I get black screens every 30-40 min again. All joy again :biggrin.gif:
No but seriously, I got an i7 920 running at 3GHz with 6MB ram in Win 7 64-bit. It sure isn't fun to get these crashes all the time and it sure isn't the optimal thing to happen when recording game vids.
So if there's a "real" fix for this, I would soon like to PAY for it :tongue.gif: haha
I have a feeling you are missing the point, which is of course that there are several situations that can lead to a 'black screen'. The vast majority of which, including several of those mentioned in this thread (which is quite old), are those which occur when the program is started, not those that happen when the program has been running for 30-40 minutes.
In which cases, the fault is usually caused by a mistake in the process of attempting to mod the included .jar archives. The simple solution to this is to force the game to 'update' (or in this case, re-download) the .jar archives with known good copies from the current version. And yes, in these cases, this method has worked for every single person I have suggested to do so individually.
However, I am the sort of person who uses information to help out others, and occasionally I do see posts where the user will complain of random black screens. So, if you don't mind, could you post the information you have that led you to this conclusion? If nothing else, I am certain the info would be extremely handy for Mojang.
And also, just to be certain: You have tested your RAM for faulty modules, correct? And of course the reason I say this is because it seems that it is certainly a memory error (which may well be code-related, but we should not rule out other possibilities). The fact that it is not kicking in for some time lends credence to this theory, as well as the fact that, by your own admission, it is happening randomly between '30-40 minutes', which seems like something that is related to 'random access memory'. Additionally, systems that have multiple modules will not register a CMOS error when a single module is faulty, and the problem will only show itself when the faulty memory addresses in that particular module are addressed. But, you sound like you have this stuff all figured out, what with your overclocked (3.0GHz?) core i7 920 and all.
i was having the same problem i decided to run a ton of diagnostic test while playing the game, i have found out what is causeing a black screen. first i would like to note that my computed i completly new. i love mine craft and have only been able to play for about 30 min. all of the reports that i have recovered have said that minecraft iss useing 100% of 1 cpu please help
i dont hav a temp folder. i hav a mac too :sad.gif:. its a shame cuz the mac is a bit old and i cant find any "cache". (my computer screen is black too) :sad.gif:
Do this:
1: Open the Singleplayer Minecraft, or any Minecraft whit offline mode.
2: Update the Minecraft to the last version or Click the Button in SPMinecraft: Force Update
3: When the update finish, close the minecraft and go to bin folder
4: Open the minecraft.jar whit 7zip or WinRar
5: Put the things inside the modloader in minecraft.jar and delete the Manifest archive placed in Meta-inf
6: Close all and PLAY!!!
alright i go to the menu and i click play it loads for a bit but before it shows the screen it blacks out. I just downloaded the zeplin mod for 1.2.5 do you think that affected it if so tell me how to fix it.
I just installed Forge 4.0.0. The game crashed, i have deleted META-INF. Can someone help me

now you wonder: why i have Black Screen?!
A. A Texture pack or a mod is outdated. lets say right now you have BETA 1.5_01 and your
Texture pack/mod is for BETA 1.4_01, it'll go Black screen
B. you installed a mod and you've forgot to Remove META-INF folder from your minecraft jar
i dont have any mods or texture packes all my drivers and my video card are updated
i have only been able to play for 2 mins at most
i have uninstalled java and minecraft and reinstalled them
