I'm glad you at least tried to use a yaml parser first! Very impressed. That particular error is a tricky one. Is just meant that there was a problem with that colon. When that error comes up it usually means you've missed a colon somewhere earlier on. In this case, you needed a colon after Default for the group name. After each group name you need a colon.
I.e. groups: then default: then default: true (on appropriate lines with appropriate spacing)
You were also missing a colon after permissions in the default group.
In the owner group you are missing a space between build: and true.
I have this problem where the commands doesn't work... I tried /pex, it didn't show anything.
Anyways, here is my permission file: http://pastie.org/9115739
Here is the YAML check thingy: http://goo.gl/lLV7c3
I have no idea how to read the errors, though :/
Okay Permissions were working fine then I copied and pasted perms to all ranks and added a few perms into each rank and now PEX won't load..
I couldn't use pastie cause my file was too large.. http://pastebin.com/cM4CtaSY

I can at least tell you it isn't a problem with your groups.yml. The problem is somewhere else. If there is any other error messages, please post them.
Also, unless you mispelled it in your post here, "group.yml" should be called "groups.yml"
Since this isn't a permissions problem but more of a plugin problem, you might want to ask in Bukkit Help over on the Bukkit Forums.
I am using Group Manager and getting the "All commands are locked due to an error" message. It says to do /manload, but that just causes a message to appear that says, "An internal server error occured when trying to process this command".

Uhh can someone help me plz? Whenever a new player joins they could do /fly, most like mod commands, etc. Can someone please fix my permissions so then they won't be able to do those things?
My file is here : http://pastebin.com/GZxsSfu9
Edit : Ok nevermind I fixed it by adding negative permission to my file but some of the commands I put won't really work like /spawn. Also, are faction commands default for members? I have factions but it doesn't seem to work.
So, I'm currently having a problem with permissions. The first issue I wanted to address was that for some reason, you have to be OP on my server to /spawn, I've tried multiple different plugins and permissions and whenever I complete the permissions file, nothing seems to change. I was wondering if anyone could suggest me a bukkit plugin and help me out in the groups file to make "Trusted" able to do /spawn. Second issue is that I wanted donators to have more commands, currently they can't do anything even though it seems I've added permissions to them. Anyone help?
EDIT: I've added Essentials, so the command would either be something like essentials.spawn or essentials.warp as a trusted. Thanks!

Hello,
I have been hosting my server for a few weeks and recently made some changes (not even to my permissions file) that goofed up permissions. PermissionsEX and ChatManager both show that they are installed, up to date, and not disabled but when I type /pl or /plugins in game they both show in red letters instead of the green letters like all the other plugins. Please let me know if you find any errors in the permissions.yml file I am going to put below. Thanks in advance! http://pastebin.com/CWpUNX2m

Hello, I'm making a server but when i try to do /promote i get a error in chat "Net.minecraft.server.minecraftserver.run(minecraftserver.jara:659 this goes on but the last numbers keep changing.
I'm using permissions for 1.6.4 and chat-Manager 1.6.4
Which permissions plugin are you using? Group-Manager or PEX? I saw some errors like the prefix has to be in the options menu, not inside of the permissions part. It also seems that you don't have a rank tree so maybe that would have something to do with the promotion error.

I'm pretty sure that the red letters don't have anything to do with your permissions. I think that some of the plugins you used are not compatible with each other.
The only reason I think that it is because of an error in my permissions is there was no compatibility problems for the 3 weeks this was working, so I don't think anything would have changed that except an error in my permissions. Could some please parse it for me if possible.

I parsed the file you linked to in your last post. There weren't any syntax errors. I would be more concerned that the plugin is red when you do /pl. There might be a version compatibility if you changed something like that. I would try saving all the files, and re-uploading the plugin files.
I believe removing the indent for line 72 should fix your problem. The permission '- essentials.build' should be on the same line as the other permissions.
The '\t' error message generally means you have used tab when writing the permissions and need to replace the tab with four spaces.
All essentials permissions nodes are shown here: http://wiki.ess3.net/wiki/Command_Reference/Perm
All the nodes to do with signs have sign in them.

Don't forget that if you want to be able to use "pex promote [user]" then you need to add the info: rank: lines to your permissions, which is outlined here: https://github.com/PEXPlugins/PermissionsEx/wiki/Advanced-permissions-setup
Hope that helps!
