Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section.
When it comes to your minecraft servers, do you care about what CPUs are being used on the nodes you're being hosted on? I see providers using E3s, i7s, L5520s, X5570s, and much more. I was under the impression Minecraft relies on disk I/O and RAM more so than CPU.
I wouldn't run my Minecraft servers on anything less than L5520s. Not sure how AMD stacks up in this.
The CPU is very important for a Minecraft server, it's where all the calculators are preformed for the server.
To have a good system/server you need a balanced system, so for example there is no point putting the latest graphics card in a PCI 2 slot, or there is no point putting an SSD on a SATA 2 port. You want to ensure there are no bottle necks, where one component will slow the entire system. So for minecraft Disk I/O, RAM(not just the amount, speed as well) and CPU are all important.

A lot of 'budget' hosts like to rely on selling ram because it can 'hide' their performance.
You want an intel E3-XXXX, the L5520 even though they are used by some huge hosting budget minecraft providers are awful for intensive mods or anything with more than a handful of players.
The AMD choices are also quite bad as they are horizontal, they focus on tons of weak cores, you need a few very fast ones.
And how do i7s stack up against E3s? I see lots of providers using overclocked i7s on their servers
In fact, unless the server uses Cuda / OpenCL (Minecraft doesn't), there is no point in having a graphics card on a server at all
I know, I was just talking about computers in general and it was the first example that came to my head. It would be nice if Minecraft supported parallel processing, then a server would easily support more players.
