Can´t servers just make a fake proof by setting up a local server with logblock and create fake evidence?
Or is it fixed now?
If someone knows how to modify a database with a logging plugin to make it appear as though someone has griefed something, McBans can't prove it's fake, so long as the player was on the server at the time they forged it to look like. So let's take an example:
You ask me to go on your server and I go on at 4:30PM
You forge LB entries to look like I did something at 4:50PM
I log off at 5:10PM
McBans would have to take your word for it, but if I logged off at 4:29PM, McBans would see it as fake.
When I ran my server (recently given away), I used MCBans. Least for the first part. I removed MCBans when I noticed that having your local bans handled through their service would hurt my servers rep if i set to keep it local in the dispute. When I brought it up to them they did reply that they would look in to the issue, then ignored every follow up email by me. I gave up on using their service. But I too have noticed that by having marks from a server owner that just did not like you can really hurt you, even if its a local ban which you cannot file a dispute on (with MCBans staff looking at). I know a few people that use hotspots that have I guess had known hackers use them as well so MCBans labels them as an alt and perm bans them as well.
I've seen an example of where a server globally banned somebody because they were globally banned on another server, an mcBans admin saw this, reversed the global ban and reduced the reputation of the server.
Again, an example of what happens when someone can't follow explicit guidelines already set up, they will lose their ability to affect others.
The title of this topic should really be changed to McBans hate thread so we can just hate on it
+1
I agree, because there is a lot of hate we can have toward them from a player, banned player, admin, or server owner point of view, we all have some hate.
Most "ragin admins" don't exactly make a difference in the scheme of things, they try to value the people who make legitimate bans.
not entirely true, local bans are not disputed to the MCBans staff and can be just as damaging. I only used the local bans on my servers to be nice to those that broke small rules, but there are owners out there that use the system to rage on players they do not like. If a few other servers see the local and ban the person for it also, it starts to make a bigger and bigger difference on that player even if the rep is not going down.
You might want to get you're facts straight.
i LOVE team avo, i like seeing them grief and im not ashamed of it, but i also like to play on servers normally.
there are allot of peaple who like to grief.
now teamAVO has multiple accounts so they dont give a living about MCbans.
i personllay think that mcbans is like fasism of you're past, for example if i griefed a server 5 months ago and i log onto another server with MCbans now, they will se MAJOR GRIEF, now what do you think what will happen? ban.
even I'do i'm not even sure why im banned. MCbans is fine but it shouldnt be able for anyone and owners should be able to tell mcbans if an admin banned someone without a good reason. but obviously MCbans doesnt want to do this because their ignorant little who have nothing better to do then plug there fat asses into their chairs and whine about griefers all day then break down servers.
Wait, what?
I don't like Avo. Ok, they're fine, but their fanboys are annoying. Especially when they decided to pull out a botnet and attack you.
I like MCBans. It's useful in situations like the below:
So many alts attached to this guy's account that they can't all fit on one screen. Maybe, just maybe, it's useful to be forewarned about this?
I think that the MCBans system is decent. It's very useful for filtering out problem players before they join.

I love the way that I have hardly any +1s, and I just got one from a post that was basically trolling

Proper griefers use proxies anyway. Also, botnet is very accurate, I go on the Avolition Mumble and IRC quite a lot, just because they are good programmers and they can help me out sometimes. Once on the Mumble, one called 'zee' (he uses proxies at all times) was playing a Minecraft server, he couldn't get out of spawn so he used 7 different bots to DDoS the server, when it came back up, there was a broadcast saying the whole VPS just went down. Later I heard him going through Minecraft server lists and DDoSing all of them.
If anything the Bukkit Staff/Dev team should work on a global banning system which could be optional for users to add to the server and it could easily integrate with the website bukkit.org... would be so much easier than having MCBans ran down by some corrupt people
P.S thanks for the read about the whole MCBans story
Bukkit really don't have time to make a global ban system, I would just use Glizer if I were you.
And no problem, I found it by typing 'McBans is ****' into google.

TL;DR: Don't give zee your IP.
BAHAHAHA, Zee? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? That's the guy who attacked me... Wow, tell him his botnet is a weak POS, and using bots from a DDoS protection company is deliciously ironic.
He only managed 380mbps for a few minutes, and the only reason my dedi was down longer was because of it freaking out from a forced reboot.

Zee manages different speeds at different times, a dedi would be harder to take down than a VPS, he managed a 4GB 1000MB/S VPS takedown in 20 seconds. He also sometimes has people to help out.

1000GB/s? Interesting, I've never heard of a 8000mbps VPS, have you? Sheesh, use Gb/s or gbps, not GB/s (which is Gigabytes per second).
At any rate, I'd love to see him take down my VPS.

why cant people just back up their servers and get grief protection plugins
But I already do that. I consider MCBans useful in multiple ways. It stops anyone with less than 6 rep from joining, a feature I greatly enjoy as it keeps the crappier griefers out. It has login throttling and anti-pwn4g3 measures, which is also useful. Having a robust ban/kick/tempban structure is perfect for me, and being able to access it all from the web is great. Being able to see alts lists and able to look up ban history is incredibly useful..
The point is, I find that MCBans, while not strictly needed, still provides an enhanced level of security, which I greatly enjoy.

How often do people get banned "unfairly" though? I often get messages on my website from people saying they were banned "for no reason," when in fact "no reason" actually means blatantly xraying, cheating, or spamming as evidenced by the log.
And this is why I got tired of seeing it and made my own administration system Ultrabans.

You know that on average, 10,000 global ban appeals get their ban removed by the MCBans staff per week because of retarded and unfair ban reasons.
Also, about 500 people per week get banned for a stupid reason, never realise that the server had McBans, and then get banned on other servers for having low rep, and they don't even know how to appeal.
i have 3.5/10 because a got global banned from to servers (1 being mcbans) and banned from a few other servers. my account was hacked and macrons is reviewing the bansand right now mcbans is down

Hi guys I'm here to ***** about McBans and how server admins ban you because you've been banned on other servers. If one idiot bans you unfairly suddenly all these other servers want to ban you too! That is all.
Lol?
If someone bans you unfairly just appeal it. You will most likely get unbanned if they don't supply any evidence.

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/glizer/ - A unbiased global banning plugin (it also has more features, such as warnings and much more).
And this is why I got tired of seeing it and made my own administration system Ultrabans.

Nice ban plugin, you haven't put what silent and anonymous do on the page though
There are some statistics at http://mcbans.com/servers. The amounts of global/local bans seem to be for the past 24 hours, not all-time.
