This may be off topic but people shouldn't be banned from servers it's too harsh, you should put bad people in jails instead. Life isn't unfair besides if you get banned you might as well start cursing the server however jailing them for a certain period of time and when they set you free, you might as well thank the server/staff for being generous and you might also stop hacking/griefing whatever. Banning people should be your last resort, not your first.
Back to this topic. I HATE mcbans. They are for lazy staff and also very harsh. Imagine yourself with low rep and you found a very great server (with mcbans) and when you join in you get banned. That's unfair right? you only need to get banned when you had DONE something bad. NOT when your past acts kicks in and kick you out.
I agree with you, Admin and Mods should only ban as a last resort. If they have done something bad, just jail them and if they swear when they're jailed, mute them.

I disagree that banning should not be as used; if a player is a bad player and has no intention of becoming a more contributing person, they should be banned. What I am against is systems like MCBans.

Jails are pretty stupid. It makes it seem like the admins are just playing with the users, being assholes. The number one issue I see on servers is admins being way to lenient. Some spamming obscenities, trying to tpa to everyone, etc. The admin doesn't even tell him to stop. And then the same guy does it again, and again. That server had a lot of issues. But they were only caused by 2 people (pretty popular server), I left because I was tired of it.

I dont **** off admins, at least not when thryre on. I dont see Mcbans as an effective plugin for me as a owner where a well moderated server does just as good. I had a encounted with them AVO and i used rangebans and banned every last members IP range. As well as the help of admins and mods.
You shouldnt deny players experiences on servers other than the ones they got banned on because a admin with a **** temper global-banned you.
I do not hate Mcbans, it has a decent idea behind it, the only thing irks me is the way the Mcbans staff acted when they were hacked. It also irritates me that they bring some form of order to a game which was not meant for any such order. If it were meant for such order, then Mojang would own servers which had specific rules sets, these would be monitored and anyone who went against them would be banned.Minecraft servers are meant to be a unique experience each, not any form of order apart from the server rules.Although, If It just listed bans rather than handed out a "hurr durr global bannnn hammurrr" to inexperienced five year olds, it would be a better plugin. All bans should be local IMO.

Agreed.
No one follows the rules on their website, and when they do they normally get banned for "emotional reasons".
In case your interested Zidonuke/Doridian (people have been guessing they are the same person, I'm going to atleast assume they do everything in the same way) went of to Terreria. They were hired (rather stupidly) by the admin of tMod, which I understand is similar to Bukkit/Spout. Things went ok for a while, he developed some anti cheat code, etc. Then someone threw round the idea they were the same person (and put up a warning on the forums of what they had done in previous projects), Doridian started deleting posts (apparently he has some type of admin powers on Reddit). The forums for tMod were suddenly deleted. Zidonuke later said he was feeling "emotional" so he deleted the entire database along with all traces of the forums. Then he accused other people on the project of having crappy skills that resulted in them deleting the forums.
Needless to say, the idiocy continues. He has now been hired by tShock (a competitor to tMod) and declared "tMod is dead" (the original owner has put tMod back on track). The theorists seem to have concluded: Zidonuke and Doridian are probably the same person, either giant trolls or suffering a "unique type of mental disability".
I must say, they seem to be very common. One is from Sweden, with English as his second language the other American. They type in the same way, Zidonuke (American) seems to make some little mistakes (like their and there) as does Doridian. They are both furries (Doridian was always open about this, I only saw Zidonuke claim he was when someone pointed out that Zidonuke's avatar was very furry-like) and both seem to have the same idiotic/"emotional" moments.
Or maybe we're reading way to into it (and they're both trolls/one troll, who is/are laughing their/his head(s) off at the idiocy which has put them into position to do things like this).
Well, they being one person or one hundred, is irrelevant. As I said one of the main things that annoy's me about the whole "Mcbans" thing, is the way they act. They don't own up to mistakes, take for example in that other post, Amber asked something along the lines of "why was no apology seen" and Firestar replied with something along the lines of "no negativity was caused" when clearly it was.A rather large amount of personal information(including some of my own) was distributed back then, but oh wait, that never happened because Mcbans are just great.
Too bad that MCBans will have to be ported when Bukkit is dead.

yeah i got Banned on some server because i "stole someones items". What actually happened was that he tried to kill me so i killed him. He got mad so i gave what he had back. He said "You took more from me then this, like that armor your wearing". I got that Armor not by killing him and it took forever to get it so i denied it. He started trying to continually try and kill me, so i kept killing him. He got an admin and the admin killed me, and gave all my stuff to him. He then banned me for "Pvplogging" and now everyone on the other server i go on does not trusting me at all because i was banned on mcbans. So, if you ever see a guy named Endermatter (the guy who reported me for stealing his items) back away from him because he will try and report you for something. He can not be trusted.

EDIT: Temp ban is also OK (as long as it doesn't lower your reputation or something like that)
BTW Mcbans should only hold the records of what servers you've been banned so they can keep an eye on you, not banning people cuz they got banned from another server. Also they should remove the reputation thing. If mcbans were like that i will be fine with that. However there are still shitty admins/mods out there. Admins/mods SHOULD have a reputation for how they ban people so if they ban people for no reason, their reputation gets lower. (mcbans should have a complaint function) If the admins/mods have 0 reputation they will be...I don't know you should come out with a punishment.
Can't you just post an appeal or something on their webpage?
Also, if admins and moderators are that stupid, their server is not worth it. Though, I do use MCBans at times. But the only people I ban are obvious griefers and destroyers of rules. People with 50 bans and such. -.-

MCBans already has an appeal/dispute section. Server's aren't allowed to globally ban you for no reason, so you should dispute that. If they ban you globally for no reason and your reputation goes down, and you dispute against it and they decide it was unfair of them to ban you, the server's reputation will go down, and yours will go back up.

Oh I never really knew that. I guess you know more about mcbans than I do
BTW There is still a problem about viewing ban records because crap admins/mods can take advantage of that and exploit it/ ban you straight away, these records should be kept secret. I still hate mcbans because some servers only allows people with certain reputation or higher to join or otherwise ban.
Grrr damn you mcbans. Crap admins/mods having mcbans is like hackers using nodus.
Mods like this shouldn't be made. This is the equivalent to why people shouldn't clone people (or other stuff dangerous)

Yes, well, the good servers allow anyone with any reputation. There's no point wasting your time on a server that judges it's players based on them having a few previous bans on some terrible server.
Reason I hate it:
Anyone could simply global ban you with "proof," that doesn't even exist in their reasoning on the ban as MCBans is not going to ask them for it.
Simply if 5 server globally ban you, you're pretty much done, as most servers have min rep set to 5-6. Even if the server who globally banned you shut down already the ban still stays on the MCBans list.
In my opinion, it's just a plugin for the lazy.

Global bans are moderated by MCbans. You can't global ban for anything except griefing/hacking (last time I checked), and you need to have evidence in the case of a dispute.
Ok so I realise it is a tool for abusing admins but I run my own server and find it valuable, I can monitor people and make sure I know who they are and give other server's help. It can be found to be used as a extensive annoyance on servers but looking from a staff point of view, you see a guy with griefing history? I have a personal "chink" in my server's armour to catch out griefers and it works. I enjoy it and I prefer it to other plugins. I will ALWAYS have it. I never allow people to ruin others peoples fun. My server's motto: We are here to help you enjoy the game!
That's fine, but don't ban them on sight. You should be using it to look at who needs to have an eye kept on them. Just don't make somebody with a ban history a member of your staff.
It's a great idea, but terribly abused. Two admins can prevent someone from joining any server with mcbans installed. Also a player cannot dispute local bans, which would force them to make a new account if they would ever like to play on an mcbans server again.
Popular hacked accounts are migrated, this will no longer help at all.
