I USE A HOSTING SERVICE. I have a server hosted at xx.xx.xx.xx:25865 NOT ON MY OWN PC and I want to have it at port 25565 so that I can use no-ip for an all text ip(blah.no-ip.org) without the client having to specify the port.Does anyone know how to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. This is the only place on the internet that has worked. After months of trying to my friend and my server public, we finally did it. Thanks to you. AWESOME.
my router page says that my wan is 10. something (don't want to show the rest) if I do not port forward 25565, I could not use my that ip address to access my server but if I do port forward it, I am able to access my server with that IP. This Ip address is not the same as those shown in http://canyouseeme.org/ or http://whatsmyip.net/. My friend said that he could not get in. I am using Cisco dpc2325.
Can you explain this more clearly? Sorry, not sure what you're saying.
Mac OSX 10.8.2
Belkin router F9K1103 v1
Both firewalls off.
When I test the port @ www.yougetsignal.com, I show that the port is closed (with server running)
I can connect to localhost or with my MacBook using internal ip without problems. No one outside of the local network can connect to my server. I've tried using Port Map, no-ip.com, watched numerous YouTube videos and read countless FAQs, etc.
Please help! I just want to play MineCraft with my kids & nephews lol.
Make sure your local IP didn't change. They can change more often with mobile devices
Am I able to host a server and open the ports from my laptop?. I cannot seem to get my ports open and I have tried everything that seems to be common problems i.e firewalls and any sort of security programs. I have entered all the correct information and I still cannot get my ports to open. I don't know if the fact that Lan servers and also Hamachi servers don't work means anything. It seems like a firewall issue from my end but I have already unblocked Minecraft and other programs like Hamachi.
I'm unsure. Did you try turning virus software off and the firewall off to see if it works then?
okay... lets try this again.
I have been trying to make a minecraft server, i hit apply and it says it is forbidden. i dont think i have a router, i have an extension, i dont know if that will be a problem. but i looked and the model thing and it is wn2000rptv2
I need help and any will be accepted. also i use netgear
Try asking the guys at netgear about that. Sorry, I've never heard of that before.
I am trying to host a minecraft server with no mods of any kind. I am new to port forwarding and the like so I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am able to login to the server however, when my friends try to they get a connection timed out error message.
Things I have done thus far:
Scrapped everything and reinstalled the Minecraft.exe and minecraft server.exe
Logged into my router at 192.168.2.1 and port forwarded to my static IP the port 25565
Ensured that the enabled box is checked and saved the changes to the router
Attempted putting the router in DMZ mode just so I can see if that works
Disabled every known firewall
Disabled Mcafee Antivirus program
Things that I have tried:
Going to port check websites and found that port 25565 is closed and its giving a connection timeout message
Figured out my external IP address by going to canyouseemee.whatever

I mean, like using an online service.
EDIT: And NO, I can NOT edit server.properties
You can't point a URL/No-IP to a certain port because DNS doesn't support that, so as far as I know that won't work.
Does that webpage still say "closed" when you have the server running?
Update: After a couple days of pounding my head against this port forwarding stuff, if finally occurred to me to consider what role my DSL modem was playing in this exercise in frustration LOL. For whatever reason, I had gotten myself hung up on trying to port forward my wireless router & totally ignored the modem. Long story short, I was able to find a walk-thru on my ISPs site that walked me through what I needed to do. We had our first gaming session this evening!

I am trying to set up a small server just to test it and I have run in to a port forwarding issue. I have no default gateway.
Scatch that, I am setting up a server and had an issue. the default gateway I was looking at read only "::". I scrolled up and found another one that works. No guide has told me that the words "default gateway" may appear more than once. Might be something useful for this guide.

I think Netgear routers are the problem. I can set up a server for my friend fine on a Linksys router, but when I try to do it on my Netgear, it fails. Any help would be appreciated:

Yes, I put in my LAN IPv4 from the cmd. I just blurred it

No, the radio button doesn't have to be ticked. That's just for when I want to edit or delete the service.

I heard that it doesn't say the ports are open unless you run the server, so I showed you I was.
I've tried doing this with only TCP, i've tried only UDP, and now I've tried both. Again, I think it's just Netgear routers that are having so big of a problem. Like I said, all help is greatly appreciated.
For some reason i canet find the place to port forward on windows 7
Try typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser. If that doesn't work, click your windows button in the bottom left corner of your desktop and search "cmd", then press enter. Type "ipconfig", press enter, find your "default Gateway" number, type THAT into your browser, and you're good to go

I have a netgear router and I used it to create this tutorial. There should be no problem with netgear routers.

Well... Damn lol. It must be a problem with my router then. I will try upgrading firmware and, if all else fails, invest in a newer router. Do you have any insight as to what could be the problem? I've made exceptions in all my firewalls (even tried shutting them off for a short period of time!) and, as you can see, made a service in my router configuration. What could it be?

I doubt you'll need to get a new router.
Be sure to check that your IP (the one you put into the router boxes) didn't change.
I'm personally unsure what the problem is. You may get someone else around to help.
Your ISP may be blocking the port but it's highly unlikely.
Yes, don't think my ISP is the problem. I use Optimum and on their website it claims the only ports blocked are 80 and two others (the numbers escape me at the moment). I have become severely discouraged
Sorry for the double post, but I have become extremely agitated. I decided to go onto the main "host" of my network (a mac) and tried running the server... Ports were open. What. The Serious. ... Why were the ports open on the Mac (AND I HAVE THE SAME IP UNDER THE SAME NETWORK!!!) and not on my PC? I am very mad.

Not necessarily easier if portforwarding works out right, but it's an alternative that many find easier.

#1 Your checking the site when the server's on correct?
#2 Recheck your IP config to make sure the last digit of your IP didn't change

Well, I'm everything worked out for you!
So if anyone could please help me, that would be great

I believe so. You just create the server and then install the Bukkit plugin afterword.

Check. I had made it static beforehand. Should I just call up support for Netgear or do you think I will find the answer here?
