1. Downloaded a 1.6.4 server startup.
2. Downloaded Forge and installed it to main Minecraft program and the server.
3. Added new port with different address than the default '26656'.
4. Started up the Forge Server. It loads in and is waiting for people to log in.
5. Entered in my IP address plus the extension new port address. So the IP address on the game reads:
(My IP):12345.
But the thing is, my game can't connect to it. I've searched high and low on Google and found only information about adding a new port that isn't the first one and then adding in the new port number like above. Can anyone tell me the steps I'm missing here since I want to play w/ my friends in a modded server and not pure vanilla since my first server is a 1.7.2 one?
There are 3 places you should be placing the new port number when not using the dafult one, your router, your client and your server configuration.
it seems you are missing the server config, it's usually located in the root directory with the name "server.properties" open it with any text editor and find the line that says
server-ip=
server-port=25565
Change the ip and port to the appropiate numbers, if you are running the second server on the same machine as the first server there no need to change "server-ip" blank should do it. Let us know how it goes.
My game cannot connect to the server when I put the IP as (IP):12345
When I changed the Server.Properties to be this:
Server-port:
Server-IP:
It connects to the 25565 port. The game can't connect to the Server.
When I changed the Server.Properties to be this:
Server-port:12345
Server-IP:(IP)
I get this error.
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.6.4

To clear up more I'm still running a server using the 25565 port. I've created another one with the extension of 12345. I'm trying to connect to the 12345. This is because I looked up how to create another server and got information that you need to create another port forwarding with a different number than the first server.
Thanks for that testing and detailed writing of it. I find very odd the cases 2 & 3, usually it happens the other way around.
Just to check, are you running the same "run.bat" file for both servers, in the same directory? Or are you using the same bat script on separate directories?
Because I'm thinking that in order for the 3rd console to show up like that you have been using the same directory from one server to try run the second one, which should not be the case in order to run 2 paralel servers.
Now, I'd like if you tried the first 2 configurations again without running the first server, and trying to connect using "localhost"/"localhost:port" or "0.0.0.0:port" That should help us identify if the confguration is being updated properly and check if the server is running somewhere
I did the first thing you mentioned, moving the server file/folder. Both of them were on my Desktop.
And in a stroke of bad fate humor that was the thing that fixed it.
Never knew that both of them being in the same directory would be the thing stopping it from connecting.
Thank you for the help on getting this fixed. Now to fix the chisel mod ID problems...

I thought this would be an easy question to answer...
