when i ran the custom launcher as admin i got: Could not find main class: net.minecraft.launcher.Minecraft.
When I ran regularly It opened but blackscreened and I get this:
--- BEGIN ERROR REPORT e9df3db --------
-snip-
--- END ERROR REPORT fc714371 ----------
Thanks, It worked. you might want to add a note on the custom launcher to force update if it doesn't work.
*Edit* Nvm, after I closed out of minecraft and tried to open it again, it showed the same error report and force updating doesnt work
Try playing around between the bat file and the actual launcher until one works. If that doesn't help just ask on the forums and say what happened. If all goes to hell you could always try uninstalling and reinstalling java
*edit* Some guy had the same problem and said this "I discovered that minecraft.exe didn´t have permission to write so a simple trip to the permissions page fixed my problem. "

Try the bat file, but increase the number to 2048, sometimes giving more memory helps
I'd just like to add that by far the biggest improvement I obtained was by turning off Indexing services in XP. Having seen the difference it made I didn't feel the overhead of running it was worth the search advantages it brought.
It's a little convoluted getting to it. Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management.
In the programs folder list, open services & applications / services, scroll down the right hand list for "Indexing Services". Right click for properties, the dialog gives options for startup type, select disable.
I hope that's helpful.

*edit* I'll provide a link to a lifehack article just to describe the process better.

Mine says the same thing but I have no idea how to fix it, in case you hadn't noticed, I'm not great with that stuff. Anyway, can you just give me a bat to put it back to original settings?

This has never happened to anyone as far as I know, so you'll have to bear with me as we try to fix this. Try redownloading minecraft.exe
Uhh, the Custom Launcher thing doesn't work. I get an error message "Windows cannot find 'javaw'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Idk why the custom launcher is like that... Wait what operating system do u have?
So if you google "how to speed up minecraft" this guide comes up in 8th place! *waves little flag*
googling Minecraft speed guide and this comes up. Yay!
Did you give minecraft to write? Maybe somewhere in the control panel and security center you can give a program permission. Or you could try running minecraft.exe as admin.
BTW why would you run the bat as admim? Its supposed to be run regularly.
5. Which is why took out the game booster one. I said having programs open, not in the background, will slow it down.
Most "open" (assuming you mean "not minimized") apps don't use significant CPU cycles or memory either. I think it's common sense not to edit videos or run Prime95 while playing Minecraft, and otherwise there won't be a difference.
Minecraft isn't THAT CPU- or memory-intensive anyway. The server and client together max out around 1 - 1.5 GB of memory and 20% of my i7-2600K. It's my GTX 570 that really gets nailed at nearly 100% usage, a widely-reported problem.
The biggest opportunities for improvement are up to the developers and out of users' hands.
This: Nvidia doesn't recognize minecraft as a game. Just an everyday program, so it runs off your integrated graphics card instead.

1) From NVIDIA Control Panel -> 'Manage 3D Settings' -> 'Program Settings', 'Add'
2) Locate your javaw.exe (eg : 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin' (jre7 for Java 7, 'Program Files (x86)' for 32-bit Java on x64 )), select 'open'.
3) Find the option 'Select the preferred graphics processor for this program', change this to 'High Performance NVIDIA processor'
4) Apply.
Try force updating minecraft

I have Windows 7 x86, but for some reason Minecraft thinks it's Windows XP.
Strange. I have windows 7 and the launcher works perfectly. I have to find out why the bat file works so differently on so many different computers.
