I was wondering if it was possible to have profile specific saves. For example have save A in my regular profile. then have only save b in another profile that way instead of seeing saves A and B, I would only see save B. That would have to help with like memory even though im sure it doesn't take up much space but still, why not try to consolidate. Plus you wont have such a long list of saves in each profile and you could have profile for only your bukkit world, another with only legend of zelda, and another world that's vanilla.
That is not possible with the launcher alone. You would need to create a seperate windows/mac/linux local account to have seperate saves.
This might be the answer to my question, but I want to double-check. If I create a copy of my Minecraft profile to add a mod (let's call them "Vanilla" and "Modded"), will changes I make in one effect the other? For example, if I build a house in Modded and then switch back to Vanilla, will Vanilla have that house?
Okay, so I downloaded the new Launcher and all that stuff and decided to test out some Betas and Alphas of Minecraft
Then I decided that I wanted to play Multiplayer on Beta 1.7.3
And If I don't get a "Connection Timed Out: Connection", I get "Unknown Host" (or... whatever it specifically said)...
So, I suppose what I'm asking is...
Has any further progress been made for those of us who CANNOT connect once the very first time to get our new launchers to enable local offline play? I play at work on a VERY locked down network and while I do have a proxy we can go through to get on the net, for some reason java's settings and minecraft cannot connect to the auth servers or anything else through the client.
On the old launcher the way around this for me was to use the WEB SITE play mode because it downloaded and copied all the needd files and updates to the same directories. So I could hit the website once and play on the web, then after that I could play offline locally. With the new launcher and the website version no longer there (and the old link I found only has 1.5.2, not the new version anyway) the farthest I've made it is downloading the exe from the site, running it so it creates some basic .minecraft files and folders (but no .jar) then getting the launcher.pack.lzma by putting the link into my browser windown, downloading it manually and tossing it in my .minecraft.
That at least gets the launcher to LOAD, but then I'm of course stuck at the endless login/register with no way to get to the menu's behind with profiles, play offline, etc. Certainly this has been beaten to death and an option or workaround is out now?
That, or is there a way to force minecraft to NOT try to hit HTTPS/SSL and only use straight HTTP, so maybe it has a chance of working through my work proxies.
I'd like to note I bought this game way way way way way way way way back when it was just barely a smidgen out of classic mode. We need a way to just download all the files through a browser and plop em in place manually, and generate whatever token is required for that 'proof' of login in a browser as well, then at least people could generate it on their phone or other computers that are not stuck offline, or stick a key system in offline people can use to authenticate we really paid. There are already cracked pirates copied around and this system doesnt prevent anyone but those who paid access.
Well, I found a solution to my problem. At home I logged in and let it update everything. I then grabbed a flash stick and I copied my entire c:\games\minecraft directory into a zip file and plopped it onto my flash stick.
I then went into the c:\users\mndfreeze\roaming and made a zipfile of the .minecraft folder buried in and copied it also to my flash drive.
Note I did all this AFTER I logged in and was able to play once from my home computer with a valid account.
Took the flash stick to work, and just copied the .minecraft stuff over my firewalled work PC's .minecraft, and overwrote/merged the games
minecraft directory as well. Now the client just goes traigt to play offline. yay!
I'm not sure how to contact Mojang about this, but it's important to know that the "old launcher" for windows is actually the SAME new launcher as the new launcher download! As a result, the old launcher for windows is not available on minecraft.net. I haven't tried other systems' links yet, but this is a problem.

Is there any way to download 1.6.2 if it's not already in your /versions file? (I only have 1.7.2 and 1.7.4)
To change your game to a different version, start the launcher. Select Edit Profile. In the "Use Version" dropdown menu, select the game version you want. Then click Save Profile.
Is there a solution to automatically end the process? The launcher will keep running unless I end task manually. I've been searching many sites for this issue, and even in the edit profile window. It says, "Close launcher when game starts." I thought it actually closes it, not keep its process running.
(The Bottom Highlighted is the launcher processor, one above is the game itself running. To clarify it, Java with the least RAM usage is the Launcher, other is the game being run.)

That is normal behaviour, the launcher keeps on running to log the client's activities.
I've tried as much as I can to get this thing to play the game. When I open the launcher, it loads fine. But when I click the play button down at the bottom, it displays the Mojang screen, and then it goes back to the launcher interface. I have taken a screenshot of my error, and hopefully I can get some help with this. I've spent $27, and I don't want it to go to waste.
try the allocating more ram it worked for me, if thats not it then its not the launcher its the new version thats causing fps drops try deleting all of the stuff on your cpu affiliated with the older launcher and if you play multiplayer more often then singleplayer get rid of uneeded worlds

You're not being clear enough. Please create a seperate thread and explain your issue in detail.
Limited worlds? I am not familiar with that phrase. Please explain.

He meant like the Alpha / Beta stages, where Minecraft only had 5 save slots
Then I decided that I wanted to play Multiplayer on Beta 1.7.3
And If I don't get a "Connection Timed Out: Connection", I get "Unknown Host" (or... whatever it specifically said)...
So, I suppose what I'm asking is...
Is Multiplayer allowed for Minecraft 1.7.3?
Thanks in advance....

It is still the old one for me,

You could try running the raw .jar file as well,

Will anything terrible happen if disabled?
