Hey, so my friend has a fairly nice Windows XP laptop. It is not top of the line, but can run Minecraft at 100FPS + for a minute or so, then the window just closes and produces an error document. He has an ATI graphics card if that matters, and windows XP. He has been installing software, hoping he needs something to make it run. I know that the laptop can run it without crashing, because I gave it to him after my new computer, and it ran Minecraft just fine. After I gave it to him he re-installed windows, after formatting everything, because the computer was in pretty bad shape. Before he formatted it MC ran fine, now it crashes after 30 seconds of playing. Anyone know of any software he might need? Or a possible fix? He runs it on tiny fog, fast graphics, with Advanced Open GL on.
No, the game just closes. One second your playing the other your not. No out of memory screen.
Is the computer heating up or anything? If not you could try to get 1.9PRE5. Also you could try playing on browser or downloading a different launcher.
He already has tried 1.9 5. The computer has had an overheating problem in the past, however it is fixed after my friend cleaned out the fan. So no, it isn't heating up.

Does it create a text file called hs_err_pid<numbers>? If it does, paste it here.

I have had a little bit of Java, and correct me if I am wrong, but the error is from this line:

Don't let windows choose the drivers. As windows seems to choose the wrong ones. (It chose the wrong display drivers for my graphics card. And I have since disabled windows from updating my drivers).

Also so if it's a 64bit XP, try the 64bit Java.
He tried it. It says something about trying to install VGA driver before installing ATI driver when he tries to update. Any fix for this?
Thanks.

He said there's no error screen.

He asked for the error report that is a text document which contains the information.
He never asked about the screen.
Yes, and I posted it above.

Anyone know what to do about that?
He tried 7, but downgraded because it did nothing, other than increase the time before crash, not by much though.
