I was reading an uninstallation guide for a mod and it said I should have my Minecraft.jar file backed up. (I haven't installed the mod yet.) Does anyone know how to do this?
I also wanted to clarify on how to back up worlds. Do I simply copy the files from "saves" onto another folder/zip?
Are you sure it works? Cause I'm just checking... I'm too careful (offtopic) Bah... hundred creepers chasing me

If you ever have a remote that controls life, and you got just seriously pwned by a creeper? You're in luck, rewind it and armour up. http://dragcave.net/user/Pix3lW0lf <-- My whole dragon scroll. Thanks for clicks! Eggs are hatching! Fletch is a slick male adult dragon!
Please, I want to be able to update to 1.0, but I also want to be able to backdate to 1.8.1 if I decide I hate it and want to go back. So please tell me, Is this the same process for backing up a minecraft VERSION, or is it different?
Wait... is .minecraft the same as minecraft.jar? And can I still save it in roaming?
.minecraft is the folder that holds everything that has to do with minecraft. And i would not recommend you save a backed-up version of minecraft.jar in the roaming folder because it could possibly mess something up. Just create a new folder on your desktop and place the back-up in there.
i dont get it so i put minecraft.jar in a folder then what do i do?
you copy minecraft.jar, create a new folder anywhere (desktop recommended) and past the copy of minecraft.jar in there. Then when you install a mod onto the ORIGINAL version of minecraft.jar and it messes it up, you take the back-up, put it in the bin folder, and remove the ORIGINAL minecraft.jar.
So i backed up my jar and put it into another location. But when i tried to go back to that jar my minecraft stayed on the Updating Minecraft screen forever. What am i doing wrong?

If your applying a mod, backup and delete the META-INFfolder from the .jar file (the META-INF is used to validate the file and if you have customised it, it will not be able to validate).

For Doing That Just copy your entire .minecraft folder to another folder then it will save the version and Dont Update it

Go to another folder.
Right click, and click Paste.
Same process for backing up worlds.
what do you mean by another folder? new folder in appdata/roaming/.minecraft? or a new folder in the desktop?
Any new folder anywhere you want. Mine's called "Minecraft backups" and for worlds "World Saves".

You copy and paste into any folder you want. If anything ever happens, you can have your copied files as a backup

I made this FAQ which might help some people regarding MineCraft files: MineCraft FAQ (including File Locations)
Whilst I'm here, I'm thinking of adding .jar version control to MineBack Ultimate (MineBack Ultimate) any suggestions or requests?
