Normally I've just been dragging mod files into the version .jar in the traditional way, whereas this thread seems to detail a different method where you're telling the Minecraft launcher where to find the mod itself. If it works identically, it'd be really handy for being able to inspect the JSON file to see which mods your particular version has, and also easy to remove them by erasing or commenting out the library reference.
The problem is, modifying the jar file is now officially a no-no. You can, but shouldn't.
It does work identically. If someone with better Java skills than me were to make an app capable of managing the JSON file directly, that would be awesome.
Optifine is in the mods things
When creating a world, it gets stuck on the Building terrain part. When joining multiplayer it always says failed to login https://www.dropbox....9.10.0.800.json
Post your launcher log please. JSON file looks good.

Except now the launcher can't find the forge version.
When the launcher can't find a version, it means your JSON file is borked, usually missing either a comma or a brace.
Here is the relevent section from your file (with fixes):
The other issue you are having is it thinks it needs to download the file.
Take a look at the screenshot in the guide, under step 12. Make absolutely sure everything is spelled correctly, and pay attention to the dashes vs. underscores.
Installation went fine, but getting this crash report when connecting to a server: <snip>
Would be really thankful for any tips and tricks to try to get it working flawless again.
This looks like an optifine error.
Does single player work ok?
Are you using any texture packs?
What version of optifine do you have installed?
I have gotten this to work with Magic Launcher.
I don't know if this is the right place to post it or if I should start a new thread for the steps
Yeah, so have I, working on an ongoing discussion for the LiteLoader thread. I plan on updating the main post later in the morning (2 AM now and to tired to do it.)
It's not perfect, but it works great. Just curious, did you get Optifine working without it being a library entry?

Yes by putting it in a different folder (I made one called internalmods) and adding it to the mods list in Magic Launcher - all the other mods I use work fine as External Mods.
After getting Magic Launcher and LiteLoader to play well together, I got brave (dumb, I know) and tried to set up a profile that will load both Forge and LiteLoader.
Everything was working beatuifully... I had Forge, and OptiFine loading in the Mojang Launcher.
It all broke when I added the information to make use of LiteLoader.
It loads LiteLoader (I know this because it displays the macro/keybinds info in the top-left of the main screen) but it no longer indicates that Forge or Optifine are running.
For reference, I am using the Mojang Launcher, and not Magic Launcher for this new problem. I am hoping to get the profile completed for the Mojang Launcher before I try to load it up in Magic Launcher. I am posting my json file below, because as we already established in the other thread, it only succeeds in driving me mad. I already had Notepad++ from other projects, so if there are any formatting tricks I need to be aware of, I would be grateful if you could tell me.
In my Notepad++, it shows the OptiFine and LiteLoader additions as being properly spaced. Not sure why it's messing up here. This is not a priority for me, as Forge would only be a bonus on top of LiteLoader. I don't "need" it.

I had problems with Forge 9.10.0.789. Try with Forge 9.10.0.800. That worked for me.

Will give that a go. Thanks.
Edit: That worked... My json file looks a lot different now, at the top (the tweak line is now on line 2, instead of 7) but it worked. Odd, but I am not going to complain; I was trying to stick with the recommended build.

Try my guide here: [1.6.2] - FORGE, OPTIFINE, LITELOADER, AND MAGIC LAUNCHER (NO JAR MODDING)

I think you both should paste the bit of code right above the "mainClass" line, taking in count the instructions, about the square bracket.
Should look like this:
Correct me if I'm wrong. And sorry if I am and ruin your game (?)

When you restart the launcher, make sure you have selected the profile for Forge.

Hey, I made a video tutorial doing what you said. You should add it to the op <3

So are there any webites or directory with all mods that will run with Forge?
I keep finding mods that need all kinds of other mod loader stuff and I'm not trying to do all that.
Trying to stock up on mods.
Almost all mods that need modloader will also work with forge.
There is a list here: http://modlist.mcf.li/list/1.6/1.6.2.php
