You should add WorldAndGenerationTweaks to your dynamic height list. It's the only height Mod I found that works with Minecraft 1.1 Single Player with MinecraftForge installed. Just don't go to The End in version 0.4.2.
You had me all excited thinking that there was a new Height Mod, but that's fishtaco's Height mod. It's already listed & linked in the OP. :tongue.gif:

In my write-up on Jeb's new upcoming Default Higher Worlds for Minecraft I make note of Jeb referring to the "New World Format". It made me wonder if it's just the usual Minecraft world save extended to 256 height like fishtaco's or if he's made more extensive alterations to the World Save Format.
Well; a new tweet from Jeb confirms that there will be more newness than expected coming with his "New World Format". Also; Jeb is creating more Texture space for Minecraft. See Below:
It has been pretty clear that I haven't been active on this project for at least a month or two. The short of it is that I've lost interest in playing Minecraft, and because of that I haven't been motivated to tinker with MCEdit.
I've been treating MCEdit as a personal project so far. There's no official issue tracker, wiki, or discussion forums; I've been keeping it low key, running the entire project out of my inbox and this one forum thread. When I work on the code, I tend to work on whatever I think would be fun.
There's a point when it stops being fun. That point is when I feel obligated to solve people's issues or add new features on request, when those people (probably) haven't done me any favors and at a time when I really need to be looking for paid work rather than fooling around with an add-on for a video game.
For the first year of development (starting July 2010), I spent 30-40 hours a week on MCEdit. In addition to writing code for viewing and editing the level files, I also spent time experimenting with Minecraft and investigating issues that users took the time to describe. One memorable exchange is with a user who kept trying to fill an area with wood, but in game the wood was lined with grooves all running in one direction. After denying it a few times, it turned out that he was in fact filling the area with Wooden Stairs and not Wood. Another user reported a ton of lag after filling an area with dirt, but after downloading his save it turned out he was filling the area with Grass instead. I coded in an extra step that turns buried Grass into Dirt before saving the level.
I spent some time on a feature that probably wasn't important to many people: file formats. MCEdit can read, write, and export from very old versions of Minecraft. Classic Singleplayer (.mine) and Multiplayer (.dat) files are partially supported with filename assistance for nonstandard sizes. (Full support would use a helper application made in Java.) Indev files (.mclevel) are fully supported as are world folders from Minecraft Infdev, Alpha, Beta, Release and Pocket Edition. In addition, the export format (.schematic) includes a field that tells MCEdit which version it came from. MCEdit uses this field to eliminate blocks that aren't available in older versions, and to "translate" block IDs for blocks that appear in different editions of Minecraft with different block IDs - colored wool, notably.
That may have been a bad decision and the time would have been better spent making a list of the known defects in the application. Or applying for work.
"Yeah yeah, but can you release the source code so someone can keep working on it?" That's the topic I was getting to. MCEdit and its source code reflect the work I've done on it over the past year and a half. For a lot of that time I had no primary occupation so MCEdit became my full-time job. I was sagely advised to keep all of the source code private. However, I felt a bit obliged to the OSS community for all of the tools I was (and am still) using, so I shared the level-loading code on github under the name pymclevel.
I intend to share MCEdit's source code, but I also intend to get paid for my work. Here is the deal. We'll raise a modest sum through a crowd-funding site like Kickstarter. Once the money is raised, I'll upload MCEdit's full source code to github, licensed under the GPL. If the project is overfunded at all, the surplus will go toward paying my salary for another year of development on MCEdit. I think I will set the price of the source code at $10,000.
The source code isn't pretty. It's by no means the work of a master programmer - I consider myself below average at best. The LevelEditor class is bloated, the MCEdit class has unclear responsibilities, and the Brush tool still doesn't have a plugin system. If you read the code for pymclevel, you will have a good idea of what quality of code to expect. When you get down to it though, the code works for many of its intended purposes and also embodies solutions to problems or hangups that I fixed and later forgot.
I will update the OP with a big fat link to the crowd-funding site as soon as I get it set up.
I'll end this announcement with a big thank-you to everyone who downloaded and used MCEdit. Thanks for coming along with me, it has been a blast getting to know my users and you've given me a taste of what professional software dev can be like. An additional thank-you goes to everyone who has donated any amount of money. Your donations haven't been forgotten and will be counted toward the fundraising goal. A final shout-out goes to everyone who sent in a feature request along with your donation and saw it implemented: the command-line "dumpchests" feature in mce.py, the "Classic Water Flood" filter, and the "Paste" brush (and a few more I'm forgetting) were all added at the requests of donators.
(And a big high-five to dudecon for porting all of his scripts to MCEdit's filter system. What a beast!)
After giving it a lot of thought, I've decided I won't do the source code sale-slash-fundraiser after all. Holding my work hostage and demanding payment from users before it continues is a business model suited only to tyrants and despots, and I'd rather not be remembered that way.
I guess I have a lot to learn.
I really just wanted to be compensated for my time. I doubt the source code itself is worth that much. After reading through it again, I'm not sure it's worth $100, let alone 10g. There will be lots of "He wanted $10k for THAT!?!?" in the near future.
MCEdit's source code will be posted to http://github.com/codewarrior0/mcedit once I've finished cleaning my personal information and passwords out of it.
I'm not sure who I should pass the torch to, but I don't want to leave the "lead developer" position up for grabs so I'm just going to name a few names. TkTech wrote to me and offered on the behalf of #mcdevs to maintain it for me. I'd also be pleased to see Eggplant! or hetmankp continue the work, since both of them have their own projects based on my pymclevel that they would love to have integrated with MCEdit. So, I'll leave it up to the three of them to decide.
I love you all and I hope you all have a wonderful day. :smile.gif:
This was great news, I didn't look through all the recent replies but mcmap has made a special renderer for 256 height maps: http://www.minecraft...st__p__12705321
You could probably ask him if he could make one for 512 as it seems he has made it simple to change it, might even try to ask him to make it configurable directly in the GUI.
Fantastic news! Thank you for telling us. I will investigate. :smile.gif:

I've read through some of the MCMap thread and I must say Thank you again for having supplied Zahl with the 256 high world to test his software with, thus fixing a bug that kept it from working before!
From what I understand MCMap has now only been verified with fishtaco's Height Mod. This will need to be tested with World Saves from the other Linear Chunks Height Mods at 256 before we can move forward any further. Heck, if we can get this working with ymod world saves then even Cubic Chunks Worlds could be imaged by this after they've been converted with Robinton's World Save Converter to ymod format! :biggrin.gif:

Robinton, you did it! You've fundamentally improved Minecraft for everyone forever. Thank You! :smile.gif:
* But we still need the Cubic Chunks Mod, however it may evolve, because even Anvil doesn't give us all of what the Cubic Chunks Height Mod was made to give us. At most, the Anvil format is Cubic Chunks Lite, the Demo version. :wink.gif:
My interpretation of what I'm reading in Jeb's post is the following, and I hope Robinton / Nocte / Jeb will correct me or add to this:
In addition to other great improvements in the new Anvil Minecraft default World Save Format & coding;
Jeb has replaced the old Linear Chunks method traditionally used by Minecraft with a limited height (256) version of the 3DChunks "Cubic Chunks " method. He has also made Minecraft itself as well as it's new World Save Format capable of handling 4096 Block IDs natively, and also more textures etc.
Replace every instance of the word "section" in Jeb's post with "Cubic Chunk" and Jebs post will become even clearer in meaning. :wink.gif:
** The Anvil Format is almost the BEST possible outcome that we could have hoped for! Obviously 256 height is extremely limited for a Cubic Chunks method, but that leaves room for the Cubic Chunks Mod to step in and keep giving us the rest. :smile.gif:
*** All of the 3rd party Tools and relevant mods will now have no choice but to finally support the 3D Chunks method, at least a form of it. Making Map tool compatibility for Cubic Chunks Worlds far easier and likelier to attain! Hopefully someone steps up for MCEdit and makes the needed changes that we've already been asking for and are now required.
+ Thank you Jeb for putting a Shout Out to Robinton and linking his thread on the Mojang front page.
--- However; The least that Robinton deserved, and the classiest thing to do, would have been to explicitly state that all of this was in fact due to Robinton. That Robinton's Cubic Chunks Mod was both the Inspiration and the Validation for the 3D Chunks method now being used by Minecraft in v1.2. If it weren't for Robinton ignoring all of the people here back in the day, including notch himself, preaching that Higher Worlds were impossible for Minecraft, and especially 4096/65k high worlds, this day now and the Anvil Format would never had existed, or at least it would have still used the old slower Linear Chunks method.
-0- I suspect Mojangs lawyers may have advised Jeb to not explicitly state these things and to also replace every use of the word "Cubic Chunks" in his format description with the word "section". Just a guess. :wink.gif:
--- Remember; There was direct communication between notch + jeb and Robinton before the Adventure update regarding the Cubic Chunks Mod and Robinton's desire to have it implemented in Vanilla Minecraft.
++ That said; Thank You Jeb/Jens for being willing to look at the Cubic Chunks Mod and accept the evidence that it offered for what is possible. Thank You for having the courage to go against prior office opinion on this matter. Thank You for having both the Vision and Conviction to do all the work required to implement at least a version of this superior methodology into the Default Minecraft. Thank You for caring about the Minecraft Community & Modding Community and consistently making the extra effort required to do the right thing for us and this Gaming Experience called Minecraft.
+++ And Robinton, my friend;
We were never really sure that this day would come, as much as we hoped it would and championed it's coming. But it finally has. It isn't a full implementation of what you have envisioned for Minecraft, but it's a Foundational start! And it's entirely due to you; your vision, your courage, your talent and skill, and your perseverance through all of those unpaid hours and months.
But don't think this lets you off the hook! We still need you! I suspect the Cubic Chunks Mod may go through a little evolution, but it is still very much needed. If anything, I'm hoping that Anvil and the other changes in Minecraft's code will make future Cubic Chunks Mod work a little easier for you, including the inrush of more compatible 3rd party tools. Heck; I'd imagine that there will be a lot of toolmakers and modders out there needing your help and advice! :smile.gif:
* Besides, we need someone to make an Anvil to McRegion reverse converter. Add that and fix compatibility with those other Linear Chunks height mods in your World Save Converter and the Minecraft community will have the Defacto Standard Higher-World Converter. :biggrin.gif:
** Most Importantly!!! Robinton; you need to ask Jens to give you a Letter of Recommendation from him and Mojang regarding your programming skills and creativity. It's the least they could do for you and would be a HUGE feather in your hat for future employment! Combine that with the proper screenshots etc and you already have a Resume for success. :smile.gif: I will tweet this request to Jens but you need to please email him a personal request. It will be worth it man, please do it.
***** Also! I want to Thank Nocte for originally pointing out Robinton's Cubic Chunks Mod to me and for also being a long standing proponent of the 3D Chunks method for Voxel games in these forums before I had even heard of such a thing. He himself had already implemented the 3D Chunks method in his Open Source C++ Framework for Voxel games called HexaHedra and was well able to tell us all how incredible it's potential is. He also assisted Robinton in further refining the Cubic Chunks World Save Format and been an overall asset and Friend of the project and us. :smile.gif:
[Edit] HexaHedra Link has been updated to most current site.
[EDITx2] Apparently some browsers were choking on the TM symbol near the top of this post, which made most of this post invisible. I have deleted that symbol and now the entire post should be visible to everyone.
Alright, this has gone on long enough. Robinton's Dropbox was overloaded today by the massive number of visitors.
Below is a link to the OP of my Higher Worlds thread where I now have a Temporary emergency MediaFire Link section with Downloads for several versions of the Cubic Chunks Height Mod and a couple other of Robinton's Mods.

WorldPainter0.5.2 is now Anvil 256 compatible!
Captain_Chaos has outdone himself again! On the same day as the first dev version of Minecraft is released including the new 256 high Anvil Format, the Famous WorldPainter Tool is updated to be compatible with this new World Format.
0.5.1 was the first compatible version but was quickly replaced by a bug-fixed 0.5.2. Just don't use the bedrock-walls feature yet as there is a problem using it that is being tracked down right now.
If and when the various non-standard height mods are updated for Minecraft 1.2 I will modify WorldPainter to allow non-standard heights for Minecraft 1.2 worlds, although I may wait until Minecraft 1.2 is released to avoid having to chase many mod updates.
Hey I installed ModLoader 1.1 onto my 1.8.1 (I believe that is the version i have am not at my Minecraft game at the moment), deleted the META-INF, and started it up. Every thing was golden sunshine and rainbows. (though i am not sure how to use the ModLoader seeing as every install video only shows the install and not HOW TO USE IT). I then Installed the 3D Chunk Mod, after that was installed I found that Minecraft would stall at "Done Loading" and never make it to the menu, it would just stay there indefinitely. Has any one ever had this issue? Or a fix, I'd read through but I amlimited on time.

According to your post you are using mismatched versions of things. The ModLoader version must be the same as the Minecraft version you use it with. And each Cubic Chunks version may have different dependencies. The CC version for b1.8.1 also requires a certain version of Forge. Please go to the Cubic Chunks Downloads section of my OP to find out what the dependencies for the older versions of CC are.
The Test version of CC for mc 1.0.0 only requires the Modloader for 1.0.0 I believe.

Ok, so people are still slamming the Dropbox links and not all of Robinton's mods & older versions are on his Mediafire yet.
So with Robinton's permission I am posting a link to a folder with some of Robinton's Mods in my mediafire account. It's not complete but it does have older versions of the Cubic Chunks mod as well as CoordsInfoMod & Flooded Mod. Let me know if you want older versions of CIM or Flooded.
I've just added v1.5.1 of Cubic Chunks for MC B1.7.3 to that MediaFire folder. It was the last version of CC to still have "Normal" Terrain (Almost identical to b173 Vanilla Terrain, though some occasional differences). It is one of the 65k versions.
v1.5.2 CC is there too. It was the First version to have custom PTM Higher Terrain in it, and also the last version for b173.
* I figure there will be people other than just me interested in these builds. :smile.gif:
Per a Statement made by TkTech, codewarrior is adding Anvil Support to the Open-SourceMCEdit! I guess he gets the Bounty. :smile.gif:
Hopefully codewarrior will continue to keep contributing to his creation like this from time to time. Great to still see you around codewarrior. :smile.gif:
* btw: The continuation of MCEdit Open Source is at a different address on Github then the initial Source Code release was at. The initial release, which is still unchanged, was in codewarriors folder on Github. The fully Open and continuing version is now in it's own account/folder on Github. This new address is where you will see the current updates by codewarrior and others on the project.
Was there anyone working on a converter for world created by a linear chunk mod? That increases the world height to 256 or any other height.
Yeah, Robinton added that to his World Save Converter. Unfortunately there is a bug making that not work right yet. I'm working with Robinton to troubleshoot the problem so that it will work. There is hope yet that we will all have that converter!
In the mean-time, World Save Converter v1.6.0 will convert Cubic to Anvil (confirmed working) and Anvil to Cubic (should work). There are problems with ymod conversion in this and the last version though (might be same bug for fishtaco mod?).

So I'm guessing that the mods won't get updated until all the files are on mediafire?
I'm not sure I understand. Robinton's mediafire or mine? Mine is allowed but not official per se, so what's in it doesn't imply anything about what he's doing with his mods.
Robinton's Dropbox is working again so the links in this thread OP's Cubic Download section should be working again.
I haven't linked the newest Save Converter in the OP yet because I'm waiting for a big bug fix to be added, it's essentially a test version for Robinton to get feedback on so I've just posted it in a post for now.
----
btw: Robinton does have a Cubic Chunks Test version for MC 1.0.0 and even a Test Server for MC 1.0.1. I will link them soon but I'm waiting for at least one more bug-fix for them first. Well, I guess I might already have them in the mediafire. :wink.gif:
After CC for MC 1.0 Robinton will likely skip 1.1 and go straight to MC 1.2.

Oh that was both good news and some bad, hope it will fixed until the 1.2 patch comes. As this or the next weeks seems to be the release. I really do not want to give up our server just because old maps that uses a linear height mod can not be converted correctly.
Well actually. The Anvil conversion part is definitely working to some degree as someone has successfully used it.
Would you mind testing v1.6.0 Save Converter for us by trying to convert a COPY of your fishtaco world to Anvil, then try to enter it with one of the Anvil snapshots? There is at least a chance it will work, and if not then it will help with the trouble-shooting.
Convert from Scaevolus 256 to Anvil, and set an empty destination folder as well as the appropriate source folder (A COPY of the original).
One way or another please don't give up on your world yet! Thanks!
Ok I ran the converter on my world, it was however created by Zarrabs mod but because they have done the same changes there shouldn't be a difference (our server still runs Fishtaco so they are compatible.) I ran the 12w08a pre-release and I only saw the bugs that are from that release (the weird biome colors.) So now I know that there is at least a working converter, now we only need a mod that changes the generation height and the cloud height (maybe not above 256 but to have them at 130 was weird.)
So the converter did work? Nothing was missing? Nice!
The other issues suck though. Sounds like a general terrain options mod needs to be made to solve that problem.

It's the least they could do for you and would be a HUGE feather in your hat for future employment! Combine that with the proper screenshots etc and you already have a Resume for success. :smile.gif: I will tweet this request to Jens but you need to please email him a personal request. It will be worth it man, please do it.
Jeb's Description of the new Minecraft Anvil World Save Format
The Anvil World-Save Converter & Source Code

Below is a link to the OP of my Higher Worlds thread where I now have a Temporary emergency MediaFire Link section with Downloads for several versions of the Cubic Chunks Height Mod and a couple other of Robinton's Mods.
* It's in a Spoiler right at the Top of my thread's OP. Can't miss it. [ Remember: Javascript must be on for Spoilers to work]

WorldPainter 0.5.2 is now Anvil 256 compatible!
WorldPainter Anvil release Announcement
Most importantly for us Higher World users is a statement Captain_Chaos made in his announcement:

According to your post you are using mismatched versions of things. The ModLoader version must be the same as the Minecraft version you use it with. And each Cubic Chunks version may have different dependencies. The CC version for b1.8.1 also requires a certain version of Forge. Please go to the Cubic Chunks Downloads section of my OP to find out what the dependencies for the older versions of CC are.
The Test version of CC for mc 1.0.0 only requires the Modloader for 1.0.0 I believe.
Good luck!

The link to a Back-up MediaFire folder with Robinton's Mods will be kept near the top of this Higher Worlds thread OP.
[EDIT]
I've just added v1.5.1 of Cubic Chunks for MC B1.7.3 to that MediaFire folder. It was the last version of CC to still have "Normal" Terrain (Almost identical to b173 Vanilla Terrain, though some occasional differences). It is one of the 65k versions.
v1.5.2 CC is there too. It was the First version to have custom PTM Higher Terrain in it, and also the last version for b173.
* I figure there will be people other than just me interested in these builds.

Thanks!

So the converter did work? Nothing was missing? Nice!
The other issues suck though. Sounds like a general terrain options mod needs to be made to solve that problem.
