It was very fun but... (duh duh duh) I think that the puzzles should be easier because they were well, nearly impossible without cheating and I think you should make it more clear which direction to go, other than that I though it was fantastic especially for a demo
I understand that it's just a demo & also that it's entirely my fault that I had raised my expectations of this map to astoundingly high levels. But honestly, that only happened going by the screenshots & the trailers. & frankly, why should I not expect a map to be as awesome as it can possibly be?
So take your time & make this map just that. As awesome as it can possibly be. We will wait. Trust me, I've been waiting for Innswich for over 1.5 years & I still think it'll be the best map ever. We can wait but make this worthy of the wait
You are right; I will take my time and keep work on. Maybe I should have chosen the testers more wisely because I heavily (as many other developers does) relied on tester's opinion. None of them said something is wrong actually. Just for your information, the demo map you played is not 1 year old; the entire map project does. Map was revamped 3 or 4 times in total and extrmely many parts were removed/changed during it.The demo map you played was began like 1 or 2 monthes ago. Even the BMS wasn't look so nice when it was 2 months old. So you can assume how map will look if I take care for another extra years
Anybody else having troubles getting the texturepack to work? I seems as though I can't even select it in client =(. Other than that this map I absolutely amazing, it has a level or immersion that is unprecedented in any other maps I have played, keep up the good work!

I'm sorry but where exactly were there puzzles in the map? Do you mean the jumping over lava & trapdoors?

Are you in the new 1.6 launcher? If so, I think you'll have to run the Textureender program that Dbone released some time back to convert texturepacks to the new resourcepack system.

Hello everyone, just a minor update to celebrate exactly 1 year anniversary of The Escalation. Indeed, it's been one year! The project wasn't meant to be so long originally... Anyway, just had some difficulties along the development and it's very likely to be delayed much more than I expected. Also, I shouldn't be posting replies with just few sentence or I'll be bumping the thread meaninglessly. So here's a sneak peak of current status of map. Hopefully you'll see some differences between DEMO release and the screenshot. Expect HQ version of today's pic and more (at least five) screenshots soon. (if lucky, this week. or not, next week.)

We are pleased to announce that the official logo for The Escalation has been redesigned as above.
Despite the fact that we are still continuously doing our best to bring what we've promised on time, time and resource don't really allow us to do so. However, this does not mean we'll stop making progress. Please have patience and wait for any of our further notice or media/trailer release, which should be up at least before new year!

Happy Holidays and 2014, Everyone!
Screenshots and a few things to announce!
* Earlier parts of the map such as the intro tram ride or pre alien invasion chapters have been completly revamped and expanded to give an extreme immersion from the very beggining of the map.
* Most blocks/items now use textures from Half-Life.
* Map uses some of Half-Life soundtrack.
* There might be achievements and hidden collectibles for map.
* Heavily re-worked storyline to fit with Half-Life smoother.

New Screenshot!
Note: I know that we've promised to bring more screenshots and a trailer in a 'short time' back in December. However, recent Minecraft updates (1.8 snapshots) have broken some of the critical aspect of the map, forcing us to rebuild the (almost) entire world. So the media release plan got canceled and we've been working insanely to fix the circuits and redesign the game. Priority was to rebuild the broken part, rather than recording a trailer or taking screenshots. It's been two months and now we've sorted out things so we wanted to give you something... so yeah. New screenshot!!
Note 2: Today marks first anniversary of the first official trailer too! So we really didn't want to lose this chance. Looking back at that time, there wasn't even texture pack! Time passes.

New Media Release!
Yes, it is the apocalyptic weekend of May, which means that we have 7 new screenshots for you to enjoy!
Sorry for lack of news for past three months. We couldn't make any progress for the last few weeks as we were separately involved in other projects. Plus, these 'pre-invasion chapters' are taking so much time as the visual and interactivity is a key point in this part of the map, and they are indeed harder to make out of thin air than puzzles or combats.
Back in 2013, our design goal was "the faster we work on, the faster we can release". Ceiling and floor had same textures and we used stones everywhere. This indeed allowed us to progress at the speed of light; but every inch of the map lacked meaning and potential. This became a huge issue. The map was 75% completed, but it wasn't worth playing at all.
Most levels weren't fun and there were too many same blend zombies and creeper sieges over and over. No part of the map was able to tell a story of what's going on. The part where you first encounter military wasn't as "shocking" as it did in Half-Life. Most of the puzzles were same, and then there was parkour. We've acknowledged these issues. After the DEMO release, we've literally destroyed everything we've done and started from scratch. Currently, we've barely made to like, 12.5%. But the map is way more enjoyable than ever before.
Bad news is, Wolfram Alpha says that if we progress at this speed, we probably would finish our map in 5 to 7 years. Whoosh! We are an amateur map builder, and lack many build/redstone knowledge. We will have to insanely work on this map...
On the other hand, we are still making the second official trailer and should be up in June or July.
And last but not least, info updates!
*Training session is available. It is optional, of course. Just like the Hazard Course chapter from Half-Life, it takes place on the Black Mesa Training Course, a few days before the incident.
*Chapter selection system. From Chapter one, all the way up to fifteenth chapter and the ending. It is available from the spawning area.
*You will be able to break through certain vents using the item given early in the game. (It sadly isn't Crowbar, due to limitation of Minecraft.)
*You can use security card to unlock certain gates. Some are optional, some are required.
*Tons of more Half-Life based textures!
*Now there are administrator villagers and construction worker villagers, for areas like office complex and storage.
*Map focuses on storytelling rather than combats. (Well, since Minecraft combat itself is just clicking..)
*A bit changes on the history and profile of Black Mesa and protagonist Isaac Connor.
*Early chapters were more expanded (than we've planned back in December) and you have more things to see and do (they are interactive). Tram rides are much longer and cooler.
*You can still beat up the villagers. (it's okay, we do that too)
*Beating up the security will however, still rage them.
*The starting point of the map is 0,48,0; for easier calculation of player's displacement.
*Final map should weigh 137 megabytes or less. Resource Pack weighs about 50 megabytes. Both unzipped.
I am seriously dying to try out the texture pack but I can't seem to get it to work...which version of minecraft is it compatible with?
You shouldn't be trying the demo release, you know. It's compatible with Minecraft version 1.5.2, but the demo release and today's version almost became a seperate map. Heck, the texture pack did not even change how redstone or stone look. I seriously encourage you to NOT play the demo map and use it's texture pack. we've made an impressibe amount of changes and tweaks for last year; and still making an extreme amount of changes to this very second.
Please remember that this was June build, and does not depict current nor final state of map. (See screenshots section for current status of map)
If you still would like to use the old outdated texture pack, it's compatible with Minecraft 1.5.2, but you'll have to change the texture pack to resource pack using the program provided by Dinnerbone at Mojang in order for it to work with recent (1.7) version of Minecraft.

Darn! Any estimation on when the current texture pack will be available? The screenshots I'm seeing are absolutely perfect for the things I want to build. Those sandbags, mmmm! lol

I assume the full final version of texture pack will arrive if and only once the actual map finishes. Although the 'limited' version of the texture pack maybe distributed IF we ever decide to release a little part of map before the full map releases (probably not though).

Oh and, I changed wall materials and added spawners(not in pic). http://imgur.com/a/l27uj

I'm liking the reddish hue of the sandstone texture
