Hey there, all. I stream CTMs as well as other indie games, Minecraft servers and probably that's it. I'm your supreme overlord too so I command you to CHECK ME OUT: www.twitch.tv/techniclepanther
I'm going to try to make this as unbiased as possible. It'll be tough, though. I realize I've given this map a very high rating, but I believe that it deserves it.
Ragecraft #2: Insomnia (Reviewed in MC 1.6.4)
Difficulty: 8/10 Overall Enjoyment: 9.5/10
Comments: (Spoilered because of the length.)
Heliceo made his debut on the forums when posting his first CTM map, entitled "The Corrupted Path". This map instantly drew players in with its great architecture, massive areas, and plentiful custom mobs; however, it was soon realized that the map had a few gameplay issues. It was unbalanced in places and suffered from Inferno-Minesian-Random-Loot-Syndrome, among a few other things. However, with his second release, entitled "Insomia" (due to permanent daytime), heliceo has improved even further on his aesthetics while fixing most, if not all, of the gameplay issues present in the first map.
The map is on an enormous scale with huge areas, and every single one of them looks fantastic. From the first area to the last, I found myself completely awestruck every time I stepped into a new area, despite even seeing what most of them look like beforehand from preview screenshots. On top of the natural caverns and formations, the buildings and architecture are some of the best I've seen in CTMs, and they're a blast to explore and conquer when they aren't being blown up by creepers.
Putting aside the looks of the map, the gameplay is also great. Despite the tons of custom mobs and loot, the gameplay is near-perfectly balanced aside from a few minor fluctuations in the first intersection. The gameplay from area to area is so varied that the map never gets boring, even when a single area can take three to four hours or more to conquer. One area has you exploring and collecting ingredients for a fire resistance potion so you can swim up a tube of lava to access the next area, another has you leaping on the tops of buildings with permanent speed and jump boost, another has tons of explosives lying around and creepers that can only be killed by letting them detonate, and yet another has you searching for treasure maps that pinpoint the wool's location while killing wolves to give you saturation and combat a permanent powerful hunger effect. Heliceo gives out heaps of hand-placed loot without making the player overpowered, making it easy to recover after a death, the monument is available very early in the map so the player can get established quickly, and travel times are made very short with the use of teleporters despite the large areas.
Additionally, while it doesn't have too much of a story, the entire map is packed with unique elements and objectives rarely ever seen in CTM maps (if ever) and tons of creative custom mobs and loot. On top of the bonus emerald block monument with a reward system, the side quests found in every intersection, and the devious yet fair traps, fun gimmicks are present in a lot of areas to add to the map's creativity. One area features effective "hallucinations" using nausea and the /playsound command, another kills you instantly unless you replenish your "shield" by killing charged creepers, and another features a horror-game style nightmare area where, when you are inflicted with blindness and you hear screams, you have to make yourself a place to hide or get killed by powerful baby zombies. Every area also has at least one or two custom mobs (some of the later areas can have six or seven each), which allow for a great range of difficulty and add to the overall experience.
Overall, it's a pretty challenging map, and it's massive (my total playtime was over 45 hours), but completely worth every second you play of it. With its unparalleled aesthetics and fun gameplay elements, it is by far my all-time favorite CTM map, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone. A map as great as this is a rarity, and it really should not be missed.
Speaking of reviews...
I remember something about adding new admins in place of the ones who are no longer active? (At least the review adderer thing)
Maybe I missed when the results were announced, but I'm just wondering when those are being announced (If they haven't yet that is).
Alright, Sketch, I've decided I'll do a review for this map... It's not official, I haven't actually played through the map yet. And it's actually more half review, 3 eighths talking about myself, and 1 eighth advertising.
Ragecraft 2: Insomnia
I tried to beat this map, but I'll face it. I'm not cut out for playing CTM maps. I cannot be a critic of CTM maps. Something I can do however is write, therefore I could be a food critic, like this guy:
[Insert Anton Ego(for some reason the IMG extension is not allowed.)]
Alas, as I have stated before, my problem is that I get lonely while playing. If I had a couple other people to play with, I would be very happy to play through these maps.
This one in particular is extremely difficult, but I can see how people would love this map. Even when I flew through in Creative Mode, I marveled at the apparent work put into it. I knew that I could never, or at least not without a ton of practice, do something like this map. I'm trying to make a map, but often I find myself bored for a while, and I have to work myself up to working on it again. This map feels effortless, everything blends so smoothly, and the map, while being a tad unfair, is extremely balanced for a Romhack Hard.
This truly has an artist's and an inventor's eye. I am not an artist, and I am mildly an inventor, but what I am is a writer. So, this map is going to get a full guide on the recently invented CTM Guide. Once it is complete, this map will be my first project. Tips and tricks a plenty will go around for talent-less map players like myself.
I hope you're happy, heliceo, because you should be. You have created a true masterpiece in CTM maps, perhaps better than even Vechs himself. Overall, I would give this map a 9.8 out of 10. Let me be the first to say that the elusive ten is extremely hard to come by by my standards. You would have to create a map so perfect it would be impossible for nearly every human on Earth. To create such a map would take an elite team a year or so to make, while working 9-10 hours a day.
The only reason this map is not at least a 9.9 is because there are ever so small flaws that make the map just that much less enjoyable. I cannot wait until heliceo releases his next map, but all I know about it is that it is going to be a long time. Another thing that I just realized could be improved about the map is the relative lack of secret content. Everything seems to be out in the open, but correct me if I'm wrong.
heliceo, I commend you in all of your lowercase greatness. Good luck, and keep on going.

I have to say, the review I'm righting has almost the same ratings as yours, with some minor changes. I already wrote a large chunk of a review, so would you mind if I made one too?

You don't have to ask me permission to write a review of a map I've reviewed. There can definitely be multiple reviews of the same map, even if they're similar.

Hey guys, so remember when i said Splinterstone Mines, the pink wool area in my map, was finished? Well turns out that's almost true now. See, i remembered once i made that post that i still had a few things i needed to wrap up with the area before it was really finished. Here's one of those things, which im about half done with.

This area sounds like it is going to be huge
A cool way to add colour variation to those walls would be some caves filled with webs and cave spiders

I have never been accepted here. Yelled at for bad reviews, made fun of, etc. and this community has turned into something I don't like. No one here even knows me, but if you do, goodbye. Minecraft has gotten boring, and it's time to move on. I'm still going to play maps and maybe finish up my mini-map, but otherwise, I'm done. I don't like this community anymore.
-Bnm(Contact me on Skype at dabnm70 if you want to reach me, I'll still be there)
EDIT: Not trying to be rude. Just don't think I fit in this community. It used to be encouraging, and fun, but now we have useless conversations, and when one posts a screenshot, it's all that spams the next few pages. I don't know what offended you, Drago, but if I did, I just meant to say people were not welcoming to me, and this just isn't the kind of community I feel like I want to be in.
I see Fangride is now retired, getting old quick I see :3. And I know it's been a while, but congrats Skeeto on being a moderator, I don't think I had to chance to speak to you since you became one.
Coming back this week actually I requested to be placed on retirement due to my broken computer situation, as it appeared I was still active otherwise (I was getting do many PMs for help...), but my computer's in the shop right now, I should get it back soon!
Drago do you understand this is exactly what he was complaining about? People acting THIS way to him? Because I'm pretty sure it is. he didn't even name names, he just said he felt unaccepted and so he wants to leave. True he could've been a little more subtle about it, but that's his choice and you shouldn't snap at him for how he chose to express himself.
@ALL THE FRICKIN PEOPLE IN THE WORLD ANNOUNCING THAT THEY'RE LEAVING.
Listen, guys, I don't mean to be mean(he he he.) but I don't think anyone cares that you're leaving. We don't need you telling us "Hey, this community sucks, and I'm not happy, so I'm leaving!" especially because you'll probably be back next month. Please keep your comments to yourself.
As somebody who pretty much lurks and rarely comments, these kinds of goodbyes, even if they only help the people who post them, are necessary. Something called closure. Plus, when people just disappear, nobody knows what to make of it. It's just easier, and people do care about these things. Not everybody though.

I disagree hugely. If we're being a terrible community to be a part of, and unwelcoming, we need to be aware of it, so we can actively try to change that.

So, I've gotten an infraction for my previous post. *sigh*
Just because you disagree with me should not justify all of this. I'm just trying to voice an opinion in a way that makes people actually listen to me. By the way, you guys put it as if these messages are common. No, they are not. The trend was started a page back and in a page we've already had three. The first I had no problems with, but when people started insulting the community unjustly, it began to seem to me as if they were starting to troll and make these for no reason. Please accept my opinion with dignity.
Type-signed, Technic
EDIT- I'd also like to say that I apologize for any feelings I may have hurt with my post. Also, I submitted this post before I read the rather clarifying edit. I'd rather just pretend this never happened. Also, how come everyone gets angry at me and not Drago?

I agree with you on this statement that you shouldn't have been given the infraction.
However, people have left this thread many times, leaving similar, if not less critical, messages. I've lurked far longer than you might think. Longer than healthy, anyway.
