dirt has a texture. Tried soulsand, sand, dirt and all of those block, even brown clay, but than the canyon look is no longer there and it becomes more of a area where things can grow
I'm going to release my new CTM map, Abundant Seas, tomorrow around noon. It will be in beta. If you are willing to play and provide feedback then tell me. I would like to have people I can rely on to give feedback. Just click the link. You can ignore the other maps there. I'm releasing the map tommorrow because I'm adding some more traps to KILL!!!!!!
So I got an idea recently... what if we had a CTM sort of build team? You know, where a group collectively works on each area together? I don't know, just something that I thought about :/

That was something I was going to propose once the current set of Collab maps got released xD

Gustavo Entertainment Team did this with From Ashes/Flames and both of those were amazing.
There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.

Also, Fangride, I love the new banner!
Yeah, that was my big inspiration behind the idea initially, though I only mentioned it to a few people. Loved From Ashes, though I've not done Flames yet.
Every one of the buildings is a single block that appears to have been randomly chosen. The blocks rarely look good with the environment, and the texture pack makes it look even worse. The mountains and terrain in general look very artificial. The block variation, even in the world in general, is mediocre and looks absolutely terrible with the texture pack. The story is incredibly unoriginal and boring. The fact that random loot is used in the maps without any actual looking-over by the mapmakers themselves shows laziness, which is never a quality that should be promoted. None of the environments blend well. The gameplay is, IMO, mediocre, and people only think they're so great because they managed to be an open world that was somewhat decent gameplay-wise. They've gotten way too much attention for bad maps, which means that many people are being exposed to bad CTMs instead of good ones like Rugged Horizons, which is a much better map for beginners. Hoped that list helped.
Inevitable argument about From Ashes/Flames aside, just thought I'd share a neat little item I made up today. I call it "Smoothstone of Focused Vision", but it's basically a portable version of the Vexian zoom potion stations, or a non-cheaty version of the Optifine zoom.
Before:
After:
The attribute makes it so you can't move whatsoever, without using the jump glitch. I'm considering making it bring your health down to 3 or 4 hearts, so you're extra-vulnerable when using it, but I feel the mobility restriction is enough as it is. Chances are, others of you have already thought of this, or even implemented it, but I just thought I'd share it anyway. I'm considering adding on early-on in Dreadsky Isles, since I'm working on updating it.

Nice! I'm using the same thing in my map, except either a glass pane or empty bottle. I'm going to call it Binoculars.

Can I use something like this in my map? I'll credit you for sure
That was something I was going to propose once the current set of Collab maps got released xD
Idea: collaboration map Open World map lolwut,
A few people build a huge continent with world paint and then another group of people work on populating the continents, by adding dungeons, ruins, and other things of that nature
To maybe fix the huge balancing problem with open world maps, You can have several continents, and the player(s) approach these linearly, but each of the continents have dungeons with approximately the same difficulty. Of course it would be hard to pull this off with a disorganized group of people so you would probably need a build team. Thats what made me bring this up BTW.
ps: Feel free to hate on this idea, i'll be expecting it
Am I the only person who doesn't view optifine zoom as cheaty?
IMO there should be some way to do it ingame.
I dunno, I just think it's a bit unfair because there isn't any explanation for why the player can do that. It's a bit of a superpower, as, AFAIK, no human being can actually zoom in their vision to see things that are far away. We use binoculars and telescopes, but giving yourself that power from the get-go is like giving yourself an added ability the mapmaker didn't intend to be there, unless otherwise mentioned.
I think that would go great in The Fringe, considering there are so many islands to look at from that central one with the buildings. Nice idea :3
I was kinda thinking of putting it in the house on Bleakshale, as the Fringe was designed so you could easily see all the islands from the hub island. It's not out of the question, though; I'd just have to give it out really early.

A glass pane was my original idea as well, but I felt it would add a lot of noise around where the player would be looking. The bottle idea is nice though. :3
I LOVE CTM Maps. Especially From Ashes/Flames. (No offence to any other map makers out there who ever read this post.) So many! Ill surely have fun for a while.
To make a canyon, try this:
That's way too small. The flatland is a good idea, but looks strange in the size i'm using....
Thanks a lot for the sandstone tip! It looks great!
