But you also said you'd make them like Hypixel's boss fights..
Have you played Herobrine 2? The boss fights are really fun, he's come a long way since the original Herobrine's Manor. No more tedious tanks.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.
I remember you were the first CTM community member I talked with via skype <3
Happy 1000th to you, and a toast to the future *clinks glass of something alcoholic even though I'm underage*
* This was my review for ROTM2, but I've deleted it as I no longer agree with it. If I were to rewrite the review now, I'd give it a 7 for aesthetics, 5 for creativity, and 2.5 for gameplay. *
I enjoyed that map. The first one wasn't great, but JX1 improved a fair bit. The Bogota area was really cool and a great trip down memory lane.
@Infamy: Great to see you at 1000 posts! Can't wait to see your crazy lava pit on Galaxia, and I can't wait to fill it with water, grass and brightly colored wool . Also, your map talk reminds me that I REALLY need to get to work on mine. I've been spending the past week coming up with an idea, remembering the height limit, coming up with a new idea, remembering the height limit, and repeating until I fall asleep.

I loved that map. The first one wasn't great, but JX1 really showed a lot of improvement. The Bogota area was really cool and a great trip down memory lane.
I hate to play the devil's advocate here ... maybe I'm just an old timer sitting in his rocking chair. But I can't bring myself to even play RotM, simply because it's essentially stolen work.
Yes, as a map itself it's great. Yay! Great! But the ideas behind the map are, quite simply, stolen. They were done by other people first.
Your comment is a good example. The Bogota area was cool. Well, would you still have liked it if you took the Bogota out and replaced it with something else? It wouldn't be a trip down memory lane anymore, so what would it be?
I suppose I'm just upset that Joel essentially has to do less work - simply building upon existing structures, I mean, he placed spawners, oh my gosh! - in exchange for a lot more recognition and Let's Plays etc etc etc because of the map's premise. A lot of small mapmakers spend a long time coming up with original ideas, and have to fight very hard for such a reward like a popular Let's Play, but he gets a shortcut.
For his next map I'd like to see him make something original. I can't really say he's a good mapmaker until he proves that he's good at concepts and ideas as well as just placing spawners. This is vital when you consider the fact that ideas and originality are some of the hardest parts of map development.
If he can make a good map from his own ideas, then cool! He's a good mapmaker, props to him.
If he can't, well then I'll just have to skip his work on account of my morals. I worry for how long he can keep it up. I hope you guys enjoy Ruins of the Mindcrackers 3.
Or maybe it's cool to use existing work for maps nowadays. Maybe that's the trend. I suppose I should just take areas from SH Legendary and Vinyl Fantasy, make the mood fit, place some spawners, and call it Legendary Fantasy. Receive much praise and acclaim. That's the thing now, right guys?
Right guys?
(I wonder if he got permission from the Mindcrackers to use their builds.)
Congrats Infaderp
@RotMdiscussion
I think Zap brought up a valid point when he said "I wonder if he even gets permission from the Mindcrackers to use their builds?" Considering you ignored this portion of the post I assume you didn't.
Monetizing others work is illegal. Even though you added spawners, an objective, built an area leading up to the actual build the whole premise of the map is Ruins of the MINDCRACKERS. The builds of these guys are the center point of the map.
(If you did ask their permission before using their builds, I apologize.)
I was going to write a long ass post about your comment. But if you're only going to use ''place spawners'' as an argument there's no point. I fixed over 300 things in my alpha/beta tests, that was just me fixing spawners, of course.
I personally don't think RotM deserves 35 000 downloads and I never will with many of you agreeing to that, RotM 2 however is a HUGE improvement from the first and if you could let go of your pet peeve that I'm using their builds on my map you might find yourself enjoying the second map a lot. Builds doesn't make CTM maps amazing, the experience is what makes them amazing, that's why I often focused on building areas TO the build so it's just not about the build. I could remove these builds and built something or just placed the wool box and you would've had my own map. But making a map based on the mindcrackers for me is just so much more enjoyable to do.
I suppose I just feel bad because in two years I've seen so many talented mapmakers drop out because they never got the return they deserved for their brilliant original ideas. You've already got thousands of downloads and hundred-thousand-view Let's Plays simply because of the premise that was not even your own.
Apart from the fact that your map revolves around the Mindcrackers, what does your map offer that is unique? That cannot be found anywhere else? Yes, it is a good map! But so are so many others - you don't need to look any farther than this thread's OP.
If your map did not revolve around the Mindcrackers, it would still be good, but would it still get so much attention, so disproportionately huge compared to all the other non-Vechs maps? No, it wouldn't.
I know at least 10 mapmakers who have the skills necessary to take your place and make RotM just as good as you did. Making your map good? Yeah, it's hard. But you are not the only person who can do that. Someone else could do your job and no one would notice the difference.
You know what's harder than that? Harder than fixing spawners, creating caverns?
Original ideas.
Can you please make your next map a piece of your own? That way you have something that is 100% yours, and I don't have to make myself skip your work based on my morals regarding the subject.
I will not let go of this "pet peeve". I simply will not play a map that has stolenborrowed unoriginal content. And I know there are some people who share that sentiment. Sorry about that :/
But you also said you'd make them like Hypixel's boss fights..
So you're inquiring that Hypixel's boss fights are not fun?
In the aspect that they'd drop records when killed yes.
The thing is I don't know if you can make boss like that in a CTM..
Have you played Herobrine 2? The boss fights are really fun, he's come a long way since the original Herobrine's Manor. No more tedious tanks.

This is my 1000th post (and I have a new avatar! :D).
I was gonna do something special, but I figured I'd forget half the people I wanted to thank.
So thank you, everyone.
You've inspired me with your encouragement, feedback, and general kindness.
I remember my first post here. It was a page get, and TCOMH was already in progress.
Well, I'm still not done with I3.
I also remember Skeeto replying to that. "I like you," she said.
Well, I think those kind words were really what inspired me to "join" the community.
So an especially big thanks to Skeeto- I wouldn't be here without you.
Com and Karrott were also really nice to me when I joined. <3 you two as well.
So I leave you, in my last post, with my first post.
Bai y'all! Oh, and don't worry about that last post thing. I just like drama :3

Yup. Having recently released a map of my own, I can see where you're coming from, and find that I completely agree.
