Huh. Well, I didn't know if I should put it in the stream part of the forums or not, but I'll do the same here.
Hi everyone, I'm Aurabolt. How ya doin?
I love CTM as a genre-when I'm not playing Survival and providing my friends with resources and going caving, which doesn't have the same appeal-on singleplayer and multiplayer. I like to stream my exploits and derpiness
Currently, I have 5 CTM maps set up on my computer.
At this moment, I am not accepting new CTM maps to play. I wish to finish one or two of these first....So, those who wish to come to my streams-I'll leave another post here and on the skype chat when I play-will be able to vote on which map I play. Then we'll likely take a break at some point, then you can choose again. I pride upon having audience interaction.
I hope you are willing to come see me play, succeed, fail or everything in between.
Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)
well i mean, not to be rude, but i dont think anyone's gonna say
"drago's famous for armor set numbering or whatever"
i dont know, sorry if i offended you (i really don't mean to) but i don't think you can brand your name onto something that practical
I'm not offended, but your logic hurts my head.
I'm not asking for my name to be mentioned on every item people use my naming system on. All I'm asking for is a nod of recognition of some kind, doesn't even have to be referencing the idea of mine that they used. Witty adding a little note to his OP acknowledging me for the naming system was actually a bit more than I could have asked for.
While the system can kinda be seen as practical, it's also kinda obvious when someone is inspired from it (take MrRedstone's picture of the "Magic Stick" with the lore reading "Unique Magic Item" and "[ Level 3 ]" for example).
Basically, all I want in return if someone uses/is heavily inspired by something unique that I've done in my map is a mention of some kind, be it in the map, on someone's OP, or in an easter egg. I don't think that's too much to ask.
dear lord you guys are gonna kick my butt at map making, nothing i've made looks even close to this cool (^~^)
Again, you having an attitude like this kinda makes me sad. Comparing what you've made to what we're showing off, then only focusing on how bad yours looks compared to it isn't a constructive way of thinking. Instead of doing that, look at our pictures, pick out certain aspects that you like, then think about if/how you can implement them to your own creations. If you belittle yourself every time someone posts an amazing picture, you aren't going to get very far, nor are you going to learn very much.
well, in all honesty i thought inferno mines was great, erosion maybe but the sandstone didn't bother me, some things just shouldn't have block variation in my opinion, correct me if i'm wrong, but sometimes block variation can get out of hand, and just confusing not to mention making me cringe everytime i look at it
To each his own, but IM is generally considered to be a bad map aesthetics-wise (unless you're a Vechs fanboi).
Block variation, if done right, makes all the difference to areas, but if done wrong, can look really busy, like you said. At a certain point, it comes down to personal taste. I tend to like my block variation to be coherent, and not completely random. That's partially why I'm not the biggest fan of Skyward Ascent (really sorry Krose!) The gameplay and level design look stellar, but I'm just not on-board with his decorating style. Too busy and rich for me.
That's Intersection 03, the area I've been working on for the past couple of days. I've still got a lot of work in I02 areas to do, but I completed enough of the connecting area to know where the tunnel leading to it was going to be. I'm gonna try and finish up both of the unfinished I02 areas next, as tough as it might be with the lag I'm getting.
EDIT: Note that it might look a bit odd in screenshot form, because in-game it's made up of very weird angles. Especially the area leading to the void down there.
you are essentially both map making wizards. Just sayin'
Soooo... I'm almost done with the monument area in my map.
I love the combination of sandstone with the green vines I think It may have looked a *tiny* bit better round, but if I were you I would keep it how it is. No reason to screw everything up.

It looks nice although, as you say a bit wierd in screenshot form I love the stalactite/sign thing you did to.
I was referring to the mind numbing headache caused by looking at the never-ending expanse of sandstone and lava for hours while playing that map. (note this is a slight over dramatization but I think you get the point.)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
This guy is pretty cool: Hey! I like, run this... or something:
I don't know what I prefer, alot of hand built stuff in CTM maps, or cool looking terrain, a mix of both ofcourse, would be optimal, but out of the two I'd have to say; Terrain > Buildings
Agreed. I have to work on making better buildings tho, I have big plans for them. :3
It was fun to test and discuss that with Amlup. Hopefully it gives map makers ideas for their own maps.
It really is a great concept, adds a lot of depth to bossfights. With the right timing, it could present the good old challenge of memorizing attack patterns. Only issue I see right now is that the minecarts are easily visible on top of the boss' head, which IMO doesn't look the greatest. Not so much worried about what the player would do with the minecarts as how it looks.
Seems like an area where you trek through miles of dangerous monster littered terrain reaching a large tree bathed in sunlight, at the top there is a fleecy box but when you get there the entire place suddenly filled with ghasts and blazes, turning you only safe haven into the most dangerous place in the area.
Pic isnt loading for me, only the upper half shows.
Anybody know how to fix it?
EDIT: Its working now NWM
I need to tell you some bugs in the beta which are.. embarrassing
But it is a beta :<
VM being filled
Lethe fortress lacking the Yellow Wool in its fleecy box.
Also I am replaying through the map, again, to see if I find any more obvious bugs.
*facepalm*

Well that's because you're you and we'll be lucky if we ever see the day where Septium Immoriel comes out of its cave.
Thanks!

Iz best picture. .3.

Special thanks to Axl Rosie for the sig.
It's such a fun concept
I feel so trolled. I had just come up with an identical concept last night XD

(for those who like default...)
...A giant series of glass tiles?
