So I was messing around with the enchanting thing in TMI, and I found that you can add enchantments to items that already have the same enchantments, making duplicate enchantments. So I made this.
If I actually make the CTM map I've been planning, expect to see this in it.

Apologies if I'm posting in an inappropriate place (I'm sure I've seen others doing this, though?). I actually don't watch this thread often (*shame on me*), but I'd like to share some images of my own map WIP to see what people think of it so far. I'd rather post here than spam up Vechs' or anyone else's thread, anyway, and this shop seems quite popular Will put everything under spoilers so that people not interested can just ignore. People can also PM me about it if they'd prefer, rather than cluttering this place up - I'd be happy to talk about it!
Okay, so this is a map *inspired* by Vechs' Infernal Sky. Being the OCD I am, there were some things that bugged me about his map, and I've now begun to make *my kind* of Infernal Sky, using the same concept but exaggerating the kinds of areas that I wish Vechs had included more of. (I personally dislike Nether sections...) Obviously, my map is going to differ in many ways, but before anyone claims I'm stealing ideas or ripping Vechs off, I thought I'd give a quick disclaimer.
So far it has no name. I have roughly all the areas planned out, and currently have eight wools placed. Monument will only be wool, no blocks, and each area/island can have up to 3 wools. I've also implemented a command block system to avoid too much tedious bridging for the player - these will have to be found (signified by an item frame and gravel) for them to be able to access the different islands without the need for bridging. (There'll be a command block to teleport them back to the central islands/where they left off.)
Also, I'm a simple CTM player, and as this is my first map (hehe, newbie) I've kept the challenges and gameplay quite simple. I'm not the one to include masses of proximity bombs, custom spawners or whatever else has spawned from the game in recent months, and I hope that I'd be able to attract players who just want a simple, hopefully relaxing game to play.
Anyway, enough of my babble!
Note: Ignore the animals and grass/leaves colours, I haven't yet sorted the biomes out (aside from Crystal Lagoon's snowy half) so everything's all screwy. Also, vines grow. They need clipping.
The main view of the central islands, dubbed "Lone Palm Skylands" plus "Tiny Skyland" and my version of the fleecy box. Three other areas in background, one more behind this image.
The place the player will spawn. No signs or anything added yet. Chest contains 'The Bridge Builder', a shovel to help players with the first load of sand they'll need to get to the first tree.
A *secret* area, with treats above the waterfall. Cause I'm nice.
The monument room, found within one of the starting islands. The entrance will be obvious once you spot it! I wanted to defy convention here and put the colours in order... also I haven't named the monument. Wools won't necessarily be in order of difficulty, or area, but instead random.
Here's "Rock Bottom". Contains one wool. Has a teleport back, but otherwise the player will have to get to it themselves... if they even spot it before leaving the first islands.
Long view of the islands leading to "House of the Moon". Another will be added to ensure bridging between them isn't too annoying...
"House of the Moon" close-up. The name will become obvious to whoever plays it. Contains one wool.
Here's "Puzzle Islands". Heavy use of command blocks here, not so much survival. Wool is contained within one of the islands, surrounded in bedrock, and the player will have to use the buttons within the islands to teleport to it. There is a book containing the route hidden on top of one of the islands, if they bother to look for it. Everything is intentionally cube-shaped!
This is "Crystal Lagoon". It's split into two halves - the snowy and the beach. Contains two wools, one in each area.
The current placement of one of the wools. I'm thinking I may work more on the "dungeon" areas later on, as currently not much inspiration has gone into them... although I'm unsure as to how that will turn out. I still want to keep things simple, more area-based than dungeon based.
My current favourite area, "Slowsand Plains". Hopefully the hardest of them all so far. Contains underground work and spiders. This area contains one wool.
And the lower area of "Slowsand". Also contains a wool, and is intentionally easier.
That's all I have for now! I've been steadily working on the areas for a couple of weeks now, and hope to continue to do so for a while yet. If anyone has any comments/constructive criticism, then I'd love to hear it. Unsure if I'll make a thread about it yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to let the people who are interested know.
Thanks!
Hey, don't worry, this is for all other things CTM besides Vechs. Vechs' stuff goes on his thread. Here, we talk about everything CTM: Development pictures, dungeon conquering strategies, and plenty more!
For your CTM map: Sounds VERY interesting! I like all the pictures, nothing really bad to point out there from me, and some of the areas sound like a nice challenge! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Each intersection kinda has its own theme, one of which is in some way bound to the next (sans [I1:I2] but that transitional area plays a role later on.)
Basic breakdown.
I1 is a "reaching the surface type thing, where you start underground and work to get out, this is where the VM is.
I2 each area is loosely pony related(mostly in name)
I3 The four classic elements
I4 "The one place that I do not have semi-completely planned out yet." If any one has area suggestions, I may use them here.
I5. A build up to take on the Rainbow Factory, which is the overarching facility which shapes the entire map. I made the made for this area to exist, so it's gonna be a toughie.
I6. "You are dead. Go defeat the Grim Reaper and reclaim your soul." This is the place were the victims of the RF go. There will be an area dedicated to illustrating this idea, and a boss fight, featuring Theatrical destruction. Backups recommended.
As for the images themselves... well I was gonna upload more but I kinda got distracted by having to fix a chunk error
(I thought about rearranging the wool colors, but with the black-white group, it made it kinda difficult
heh, nice. sounds like you might need to rethink your bonus goal system.
Anyone start Isaac's map yet? (other than those who are LPing it, obviously) I think it's great! Original area designs, my favorite so far being The Tunnel. (kind of self explanatory)
Who knows... Maybe I might force you to have a fortune pick to get it... Well FIRST: I need to test this to see if Fortune works on emeralds! Back to my sandstone test world (Which is blown up due to me laying with pressure plate TNT traps :3)
EDIT: Fortune does work on emeralds!
*thud*
32 blocks = 108 emeralds with Fortune II...
*louder thud*
Oh well... Maybe I might just use one emerald block and that's all you got...
I am soon going to start it, but I need to get my priorities straight, and get a schedule going ( )

I2 each area is loosely pony related(mostly in name) I am okay with you being a brony (pegasister if you're a girl), but honestly, I am internally repeating "Face to desk". Not enough information though to make a discernable decision though...
I3 The four classic elements Air, Earth, Fire and Water? Great!
I4 "The one place that I do not have semi-completely planned out yet." If any one has area suggestions, I may use them here. Do your friends have any ideas? I used a couple from friend suggestions, slightly modified to my twisted possibilities [cue evil grin]
I5. A build up to take on the Rainbow Factory, which is the overarching facility which shapes the entire map. I made the made for this area to exist, so it's gonna be a toughie. "I made the made?" A bit confused by that. Also, is this WHOLE map supposed to be based around MLP? If so, "Face to desk, Face to desk..." Still sounds like a good area though!

"Made the map"
In a sense, yes. In a sense, no. Parts of the map are loosely based on elements from MLP (mostly from the grimdark fanfics: Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory, Cause I wanna hear some genuine fear. BTW, trying to emulate horror in minecraft is hard, especially if you've been toughened by these type maps, I think invisible cave spiders do a good job though cause you can still see their eyes....................)
The idea to make it a CTM initially came from the connection of the wool monument to spectra. It's kinda a spiderwebby design, I'll admit, but I like it.
Here is another very WIP pic.
I honestly have no idea what made me want to make this area so big.
And the backup thing, it's not as much "You will die.... muahahahaahhaaa!!" as it is "This entire Intersection is rigged to blow once you set foot in the last dungeon." (Ender Dragon is awesome, and no not the final boss.)

Thanks. I'm trying to avoid the "giant box with ghast spawner in roof lol i haz a catzel" syndrom.
And yeah, I didn't think you were hating. I understand that most CTMr's don't want a "luts recrete ponevyl to git the wuhl lulz" type thing. (As far as being offended is concerned... you lose your right to non offence upon joining the fandom. I was aware of this and chose to anyway.)

I am a partial fan of MLP, Derpy hooves is my favourite character right beside pinkie pie and apple jack.
Wait, are you going to make a pinkie pie themed Easter egg in the area known as cupcakes?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)

I will never call myself a brony, but I do like the series, I have read about ten fanfics, and I have a pinkie pie toy sitting on a shelf in my room. I am a fan of MLP, but I hate the term brony.

I finally made it back here to see the answer to the question I posed! (Been super busy) And from the looks of it, it seems my map is at the least a adventure/ctm hybrid with both strong adventure elements and ctm elements. Thanks for all the feedback.
That is it. Done. End of story. As long as it has that, it "qualifies" as a CTM map. Now then, there are several other pre-set qualifications that stem from the Super Hostile variant of CTM, these are what most CTM players consider to be part and parcel of CTM (myself included). If it deviates from this, then it must be a "adventure/CTM map" or a "survival/CTM map."
You must be able to survive in any way you can think of
You can break blocks
You are allowed to screw with redstone, tunnel, bridge, etc.
Wool, records, and spawn eggs are acceptable. Other victory items are "bizarre" and "experimental."
What if the monument is used as a goal to get to the real goal of the map? EG: Complete monument, gain access to final battle in the map to complete storyline.
At the very least it looks like it's at a minimum adventure/ctm hybrid. But since the monument, while technically one of the primary goals, isn't the final goal and stuff happens afterwards, would that switch it to adventure?
I played it with the wife and I have to say it was quite good - Personally I would classify it as an adventure map. In a CTM the monument is the ultimate goal, while in your map it was a way to get to the goal. Add in the story elements and, while it did have CTM elements, I would say it was very much an adventure map.
On a side note? The hall of youtubers - Epic
Glad you enjoyed it, and that's also how I see it being classified. (hall of youtubers is super fun :D)
What defines a CTM map is that it has an objective, and it is tougher than normal vanilla minecraft, with a different environment.
Vechs was the first ever to think up of the CTM genre. He had already made a couple survival maps, but they had no objective, so they were never really complete. Vechs got bored of just surviving, so he made the monument system.
I believe the biggest reason that defines a ravine between adventure maps and CTM maps is the fact that in an adventure map, you have very VERY strict rules, with basically no difficulty. On the other hand, a CTM map forces you to survive in a land in the hands of a maniacal mapmaker with the means to twist the terrain in any way he pleases. He can limit you to no diamonds or iron until very late in the map, or throw billions of mobs at you. The means of a CTM map maker are to make aesthetically pleasing areas, with ultimums of different levels of difficulty, where as the adventure map maker has to build awe-dropping structures for a player to explore.
The difficulty curve is interesting. CTM's as I've alwas thought are rather brutally hard. Also you're right, adventure maps are typically a walk in the park with a couple of exceptions, (KOTS and KOTS2) As far as CTM's go, Eronev 2 is an easy map, but as far as adventure maps go, lots of people are having a lot of real trouble traversing the environment and handling the different styled mobs.

More stuff on Isaac's map:
Whew! Just got finished with The Arid Lands...I think I REALLY underrated that place. The giant cave system was quite annoying, but worth it with all the iron (ended up mining 3 stacks). Also got the pink wool. So far so good as far as map making goes. Gonna move on in I3 and see what I can find.
Wow, a lot of posts since I've been here yesterday! I'll try and respond to as much as I can.
@Com572: Glad to hear you're advancing through my map. And Sharpness IV, Knockback II? Nice! When I played through my map, I enchanted a diamond sword... and got Bane IV.
Just one request though: would you please post all of these progress updates on the Lonely Lands thread? It's more on topic there, and the LL thread could use the bump.
@Skeeto: WOWWWWWW that looks awesome. I especially love the Tower of the Moon, or whatever it's called? Keep posting updates on your map here, I would LOVE to play it when it comes out or be a beta tester for it, or something. If that's your first attempt at mapmaking, I am stunned.
@MLP stuff: I saw one episode of MLP and got the theme song stuck in my head, and to this day I've never gotten it out...
I don't think your map would be a CTM, and so not available for getting reviewed on this thread. I suppose it could easily be considered a CTM/Adv/Other Hybrid, but that doesn't have a place in the OP at the current time. Who knows, maybe Isaac will make a separate section for maps like yours at some point, but I don't think it qualifies right now. That being said, I loved playing your map and had a ton of fun with it.
In regards to the MLP stuff: I've watched a few episodes to make sure I gave it a fair chance, but it really didn't appeal to me. That being said, I don't care who else likes it, guy or girl, as long as they're not in-your-face about it. I know someone who tries to force MLP on me every time I see him, so that doesn't really turn me on to it, but I don't care who watches it, and I hope people don't mind that I sing Britney Spears when no one else is around as long as I don't try to get them to sing it too. :3
If I actually make the CTM map I've been planning, expect to see this in it.
