This thread has been long-dead. I'm abandoning it now. I might update this once I finish a map, but until then, I'm saying goodbye to this thread. Don't check here for updates; if I ever finish anything, I'll post about it on the CTM Community thread. Also, my signature is likely to stay fairly up-to-date.

The backstory of the map. I suggest reading it before playing; it won't have any spoilers.
The war dragged on. Massive amounts of death on all sides, with no appearance of slowing. A "war of attrition", they were calling it; realistically, the war would only end when just one faction had people to fight. Women and children were not exempt from the horrors of war, either. They could fight just like the few men left, and often, they would die just like the hundreds of millions before. By this point, nobody knew for sure what started the war; all they knew was that they needed to avenge their dead by wiping out all opposing forces.
Prisoners of war were rare. Nearly nonexistent compared to the captured "war criminals". Everyone was a war criminal in their opponents' eyes. And yet, sometimes an innocent civilian would have the war drop on their doorstep, and they would be dragged away to prisons or concentration camps... and since nobody knew what they had done to deserve imprisonment, everyone assumed the worst.
One particular nation was infamous for their harsh, often deadly prisons. Universally despised beyond the universal despicability of each side in each other's eyes, they were little more than savages in how they treated prisoners. Death was too good for them. Unfortunately, this is how they felt about their worst prisoners. Stories were told about the torture chambers, the forced labor, the executions...
No stories were ever told about the void cells.
None.
What stories were there to tell? Hardly anyone even knew about them; reserved for the worst of the worst, they were a thing that even your most horrific nightmares could not describe adequately. Maximum security, of course. Nobody ever escaped. Nobody was ever let free - or even let into a more lenient part of the prisons. Without fail, they were the deepest parts of the prisons. Freezing cold, and with very little light. The prisoners held within were given no food or water, and were left with a choice: Starve to death, freeze to death, or throw themselves into the endless blackness of the void.
This void cell block, located miles below the surface in the largest prison complex in the country, is where our story begins...
Welcome to Thanatos.
"Geothermally powered": A pseudonym for "inside an active volcano".
The geothermal engines of Thanatos provided energy to the entire facility - either by transporting the lava to the forced labor mines to smelt ores, or using it in the incinerator, or pumping it to the magmatic generators that provided electricity to the prison. The lava was, of course, also used for torture and execution purposes.
The main pump itself is powered by the magma falling from the ceiling of the massive chamber. Five filters would collect it and refine it, and pass it through a system of pipes into the central generator, which would use the geothermal energy to power the central pumps. Two smaller pumps would lift the lava up to the central lava collector so that it could go to the generator.
The entire system - and particularly the filters - required constant maintenance to keep running. Without regular checkups by facility engineers, the filters would shut off. This wasn't a problem if one of the filters stopped, but if all 5 failed, then the entire prison would shut down...
In this case, though, there was nobody present to care about the facility's lack of power...
Really? The map hasn't been released yet, why are you even looking?
For any assistance you need - ingame or otherwise.
Note: This will just be a very general walkthrough. I'll tell you roughly what to do and where. The "how" is up to you.
I haven't hidden a download anywhere. Stop looking.
In other news: I've updated the OP with a little bit more info, including some details about further progress that I've made. Unfortunately, I'm kinda putting the project on hold while I work on a "secret project" (hint: it has to do with ProjectCTM). Don't worry, I still intend to finish the map by the end of the summer. I mean, I've still got a couple months left, that should be plenty of time, right?

Okay, I'm back from a short absence, and work has resumed in earnest. I haven't made all that much progress since getting back, but I've updated the OP anyway. I still have hopes to finish this map pretty soon (or at least get it into beta).

As the news section says, Darkfall is on hold while I work on Thanatos. Honestly, I think things will turn out better this way. Darkfall is just a basic cave map: linear-branching, boring, and terrible aesthetically. It's been done before, and much better than I've been doing it. Thanatos, on the other hand... Thanatos is (so far) much better - it's open-world and underground, which is interesting in and of itself. It's a prison, with passages going every which way between dungeons. It works like this, basically: You can take the normal white-orange-magenta-etc. route if you want, but you could also skip from, say, orange to cyan. It's strongly unrecommended, but if you feel like you want to take on a harder challenge/start sequence-breaking, be my guest. It's sorta like any open-world map; it's just underground. A massive interior area.
Anyway, I'll be posting updates here and on the CTMCommunity thread as often as I can. The OP has a lot of information about my plans for the map, if you want to take a look.

As of late, I've been trying to make a simple minimap - 2 dimensions and without any overlapping paths. Guess what?! It's impossible! There's only one or two paths stopping me, though, so some paths between areas may disappear. I'll add some ones that won't cause conflicts to compensate. I'll give you a picture or two when I get home.

Hi there, people. Yes, this thread is basically dead. I'll probably be making an entirely new thread when I actually finish a map. So yeah, see you somewhere else. Bye.
I'll update the OP to reflect this.

Glad to see another Quake Pro User
Keep in mind it's early in the process. I'll keep your comment in mind, too. Thanks for the advice!
Also yeeeaaah... I switched to Quake Pro when the option first became available and haven't looked back.
Thanks for your interest!

Slowly. Very slowly. It's kinda-sorta-maybe on hold again while I work on another project. Again. But it's coming! Eventually!
