And another thing, 5thHorseman, do you mind all this talk about the Multiplayer version of OB inside of your thread? Just wondering.
Not only do I not mind, I like it! It keeps the thread on the first page I support any way people can play the map. I don't really care if you get it via the direct download, the Adfly link, play one that someone else made, or play on this or any other server. All I care about is that people play it and that attribution is given to this thread so people can choose to play the original if they want. Which is what's happening here.
In my mind this isn't some grab at some nebulous "potential players," it's a really cool, exciting wrinkle on the idea.
well, I'm glad you're happy about the "evolution" of Oceanblock...I love the map myself...and are you still planning on making new versions like for when 1.7 comes out? as that would be awesome, and would give me more things to do...(although with the release of a new patch of another game I play, i haven't had time to mess with MC...lol) I'm currently building my house on my Oceanblock map...and hopefully...(if I can figure out why Fraps is making my mic volume so dam low) I'll upload a tour video of my island! (maybe I'll find time to play Pancake survival...that is if the map still works good with current version of MC...kinda don't want to play different versions as I know i'll try to do something or craft something that doesn't exist in older versions.)

Yeah I'm considering a minor revision to OceanBlock and a major one to Pancake Survival (Let's just say going up in the Nether won't be quite as easy as it is now), hopefully to coincide with 1.7. Renewable lily pads and nametags (that I didn't even know about until just recently) via fishing is really cool, and I just love the idea of pet creepers.
All the discussion about Perfect Villagers has got my brain churning again, and I may try to create a Perfect Village, where everybody is either totally unlocked, on their way to being totally unlocked, or dead because they offered the good trades too soon.

Yeah, a pet creeper...don't go trying to hug your new pet...it might have some explosive consequences! And I am totally excited about the changes to fishing! Renewable lily pads and name tags, even another source of saddles!

Are you guys expecting new islands to be created very often? Seems like (after the initial ones are created for the first players) that it would die down a bit to some base level of creation that isn't very much.
I'm also curious why creating sand, dirt, and clay blocks is more processor intensive than creating water blocks. A block is a block, no?
I would imagine on servers like this there is a decent amount of turnover: people coming in, starting an island, playing a few minutes, then either liking it and staying, or logging out and never coming back. All of the islands I can see directly around me are in fairly early development, and most appear to be abandoned. A couple of islands that have more work into them are 4-6 islands away.
I've been tempted to sneak over and avail myself of the diamond ore on a few abandoned islands...

What?? You found it easy going up the Nether in pancake? (I guess going up the corner is a lot easier than going up the middle like I did...)
In Oceanblock, a perfect village (5 perfect villagers, one of each type) actually isn't possible, since you'd never be able to make the farmer's 10 gravel for 4-5 flint trade, or the blacksmith's 4-5 diamond for 1 emerald trade. (Actually because of my Fortune 3 pick, I could probably trade the blacksmith once, maybe twice, but unless the diamond trade was very early, it is very possible it would take multiple trades to unlock the next slot.)

Actually I didn't even THINK of using the corner until I saw it in someone else's video. And no, I didn't find it easier. I'm just thinking about making it harder And removing the ability to use the corners

Actually I was thinking of trying it in vanilla or (for the cred) on my friends' server.
Though I *could* set up the first 2 villagers to be:
A farmer with the gravel trade first and the wheat trade second. Wheat is about as easy to get as sugarcane.
A blacksmith with the diamond trade first and... I don't know. Something second. One of the chainmail trades maybe as they're so low probability. Though I can't imagine putting the time into perfecting one of those guys
ok, just don't make this "perfect villager" thing one of the challenges...as that would be so time consuming...and can get quite annoying when trades don't go the way you want them to...

- Protection is finally fixed! You no longer have to worry about being griefed - Nether World is updated! It is just like the original, but instead of spawning on a floating island, you will have access to a special kit that gives you nether wart - Server market is online! Trade with others or vote for the server and get items like Grass, gravel, clay + money!
meh, its not really my thing...Its a really nice idea, but imo, it just doesn't have the same flair that 5thhorseman's map does...it just seems way more fun to just have a private server and play with a handful of friends...or have a friend with a private server to play on...hehe

FYI, if you are interested in some of the discussions we've had here about the details of villager trading, I've started a "Villager Trading Mechanics Mega-Thread".
In it I've summarized some of the discussions we've had here, as well as some more technical discussion/probability calculation we had going on in my MegaVillage Thread.
Also a couple of good videos there, one of them by Docm77.
To change subjects, I'm not too sure about the long-term viability of the Oceanblock server.
Frequently 0 to 10 people online when I join. Still no way that I know of to use the store they set up (which sells sand but not dirt). They reset the Nether to flatland style, but now there is no way to get Netherwort or blaze rods.
I'm still having some fun building out my island, I just automated my iron farm, and I'm almost up to a full load of villagers. No animals have spawned in a week or so, though, I am still without sheep.
My first actual day of oceanblock is complete, I say first actual day as this is my third (maybe fourth?) start thr first ones were getting a grip on the mechanics. (oh, and not game day, but day of me building.) I've made it to ocean floor and have begun to harvest its bounty. Right now I have a dozen oak trees adn 4 spruce trees in porduction, and have begin project bonemeal. Complete the first round of trades with my villagers, and found that the second trade for both villagers requires emeralds. So my secondary goal will be the boom chicka wah wah initiative.
For my first downloaded map, I sure picked a good one thank you for this build 5th.
I've almost been tempted to restart the map in hardcore mode to see how long i can last before I screw up and die or some random creeper appears out of nowhere...so many new ideas on how to build certain structures, that would be such a waste of materials a ton of time to do in my current map...but I also kinda want to wait to see if 5th makes a new version of Oceanblock for 1.7 (whenever that comes out...)

well in 1.6.2/1.6.4, they fixed the bug where animals would escape from their pens.

Yeah, I have been keeping this Let's Play on 1.5.2, but I guess there isn't much reason not to use 1.6 instead. Horses aren't relevant, and I don't imagine mutiplying zombies will cause me much trouble this late in the game. I can choose whether I want to use other new items like leads, hardened or stained clay, or hay bales.
Ugh, except for the ever-present villager "HHRMM". That'll be annoying...
To change topics, does anyone have a design for a working "ghast spawning room" for the Nether? I'd prefer not to have them free-floating around the Nether, so I made a 10x10x8 enclosed room (with a roof of slabs to keep them from spawning above). I knew pigman spawning would be a problem, so I ran a powered rail around the edge to pick up the pigmen and smother them.
I went AFK last night, and didn't get a single ghast to spawn. I got tons of pigmen, of course, and then a few small magma cubes clogged up the minecarts, so the pigmen stopped getting killed. Not sure if I hit the mob cap or something.
So are Ghast spawns just much rarer than pigman spawns? Do I just need to give it more time? Or am I doing something wrong?
idk...if I find a way to make a good ghast spawning room...i'll let ya know. and I updated my map to 1.6.2 so I could make use of leads, Stained Clay and wool carpets! Leads are perfect for my snow golems... look at the pic below! and they'll never (as far as I have seen) walk onto the ice so whenever I get silk touch, I can mine up the ice without the snow golems falling into the water!
One of these days i'll make that tour video i've been mentioning...just RL things and other games (WoW and FTB for examples) have kept me distracted...lol
But I will make one and show ya the progress that has been made so far!

So I did, at very long last, get a single ghast to spawn in my little Nether box, so I'm half way to my 6 potion achievement. It was very far from AFK, though, I had to constantly monitor it, and clean out the minecarts every time they got clogged up with magma cubes. I'm wondering whether I'd be just better off without the cart and smother mechanism, and just let the room fill up with pigmen... would ghasts still spawn, do you think?
Idk...i've never heard of a Maximum mob limit for hostile mobs...if you want...you could have a 2 high hole at the bottom of the wall, with trapdoors so they'll just walk off the edge into a smother chamber or something...since ghasts are quite larger then pigman, they won't be able to escape, but it'll clear the floor of pigmen. like a hole with a pressure plate that will trigger a crusher piston or something...idk
btw, i logged on just a little bit ago and saw this in my jungle biome...an invasion of ocelots!
