My only comment is that the tree farms should say "oak tree, jungle tree, spruce tree, birch tree" instead of just "oak, jungle, spruce, birch". Not a big deal, but my brain tripped on those reading them the first time.
Good idea. I have made that change.
Also: any new objectives you want to include for Nether Quartz, or now that we'll be able to bake Nether bricks?
Maybe add that to the house challenge?
"A house for yourself. Include some brick, stone brick, Nether Brick, and Nether Quartz Blocks in the construction."
You could also add one for hanging a painting next to your map. You could even combine those into
"Decorate your house with a painting, a hanging map, and potted plants."
I like both of those. I didn't add anything specific for quartz because I was trying to get away from the busy work part (Make a stone wall. BOR-RING. And before you ask, the wool and potions are different because they each require you to complete several sub-tasks first, all of which are more interesting than baking some cobblestone and crafting a wall). I considered "Use a daylight detector to do something useful" but that seemed a little *too* vague.
Here are the three pages I changed:
BUILDING:
-Enchanting Room
-A House for yourself (Include Brick, Nether Brick, Stone Brick, and Quartz)
-Cobblestone generator
-Giant red mushroom
-Giant brown mushroom
-Mob farm
-Grass for Animals (Min. 8x8)
GENERAL (2/3):
-Make a jukebox and collect records for it
-Automate something with pistons, hoppers, and/or dispensers
-Hang a map and at least 1 painting in your house
-Pot some plants for decoration
-Tame a Wolf
-Tame an Ocelot
FARMS (1/3):
-Mushroom (Min. 8x8 mycelium area)
-Pumpkin (Min. 1 stalk)
-Sugarcane (Min. 64)
-Jungle tree (Min. 4 or a 2x2 square)
-Birch tree (Min. 4)
-Spruce tree (Min. 4)
-Oak tree (Min. 4)

Looks good!
I remembered sandstone, too. You could add that to the house materials list if you wanted.

Too many requirements, and the house may get a bit gaudy. Also, space is getting tight and while I'm not totally averse to adding another page, I'd like to keep the number of pages as low as is possible.
Came across this useful video in the Skyblock thread.
Shows how to get blazes in Skyblock and cure villager zombies, might be a useful method for Oceanblock once 4.1 is out and we can spawn blazes.

(He is basing the design of the spawner off of )
While this will technically work in 4.1 (there is a little stronghold area way off in a corner, I believe), it's not necessary. The Blaze Spawner is still there. I decided in the end that that's kind of the signature way to progress in this map.
The new map, which I'll hopefully reveal on Wednesday when 1.5 comes out, has a Nether tailored around getting blazes (and all other baddies) because you're in a stronghold.
BTW: I'm going out of town for St. Patrick's day. If 1.5 does not come out on Wednesday (or comes out too late on Wednesday even) I may not be able to post the maps until Monday or Tuesday.

Ah, ok. So no "Create and light a beacon and be rescued from the island" final achievement in 4.1, then?

Cool. I'm looking forward to your other map, as well. Maybe I'll do a Let's-play with it, sight unseen. Watching a Let's Play for someone who doesn't know the map somehow is just a bit more interesting.

Ack, you're killing me here. 1.5 has been out since early this morning, any news on those updated maps?
In unrelated news, I ran into a couple of problems with the new mob hit boxes in 1.5.
So I already knew in 1.5 that baby cows and sheep could fit through a 1-high block, so I was doing some testing to re-design a "farm-house" kind of structure, similar to the sheep farm design here.
So testing on cows and sheep went ok, I just made sure to reduce the gap to a half-block thick.
What I didn't anticipate was that baby pigs and chicken, since adults are only 1 block high, would be able to fit through a space only a HALF block high. (Kranky916, I was testing a variation of your hen house, all the chicks will leak out in 1.5).
This means that designs that allow side access to pigs or chickens are not possible, except maybe by creating a smaller-than-half block gap using snow layers or something?
I guess I'll just go back to a "big open pen" design or something, or use one of those "fully automated" ideas everyone seems to like.

All signs are pointing to an early morning Thursday release. I'm just doing some final checks. I'd be able to release tonight but my internet is very dodgy where I am right now. I'll have to wait until I'm home.

I think I'll do all my animal farms in rivers that end in a hopper, so I just feed, kill, and let the hopper take care of picking up the drops. Same with my mob farm.

That might work for moving water, but I just found that baby chicks drown in a single block depth of standing water (at least if the water is above signs, haven't tested other combinations)
But yes, hoppers will be a serious advantage to certain types of farms (eggs especially).
I lied (well, not actually, I did say really early this morning but I meant more like 7-8am). OceanBlock 4.1 is available NOW!
There are links to Adfly and direct download of the map in the first post, along with the all-new challenge list. enjoy!
And Pancake Survival, my new map, is also LIVE. Check it out here: Pancake Survival 1.0
Sweet! I'll check out Pancake Survival!
Are you going to update the title of this thread to 4.1?
It might be worthwhile to leave the 4.0 info somewhere hidden in a spoiler tag in the original post. Current players of 4.0 may still want to refer to the version of the challenge list they are used to, despite the fact that the 4.1 version has been improved. Any reason you can think of to leave the 4.0 download active, maybe if anybody chooses not to upgrade to Minecraft 1.5?
Wow, huge secondary biomes! That should give us lots of interesting options. I'll have to see how many minecraft days it takes me to spawn mooshrooms I guess the starting chest is fine, I didn't mind the items placed directly on the island, and I kinda thought the floating book on the bed was a unique touch.

I'm afraid to! It changes the url and I have no idea if that'll screw anything up.

I'm not super concerned about that. If you care that much, you should have the book Also, with extremely few exceptions the challenge list is actually the same, just better organized and with some extra challenges that are perfectly possible in 4.0.

I won't lie, I did some thinking on that. In the end, what convinced me was that the "starter chest" is in vanilla Minecraft, so it's not at all a problem. I too liked the floating book on the bed, but 2 books is pushing it, and I really needed to fix that book.
Interesting aside: I accidentally destroyed the book the first time I tossed it on the bed, because I accidentally hit the cactus.
Thanks for the update!
And you're welcome. Thanks for playing and for being such a big part of the update!
While changing the title does change the url, it does not change the starting portion where the thread number is located. That is all that the forum software pays attention to.
In other words: None of your old links will break. Go ahead.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Hi guys, I haven't been able to get on lately as I no longer ave internet...(I'm using crappy internet at public library atm... ) I'll have to put a pause on my oceanblock survival series...I might continue it when i get internet back but only time will tell...In the meantime i'll try out this new 4.1 map you uploaded...thank god that I can still play MC without Internet!!!!!!! Though some of my favorite mods haven't been updated for 1.5 yet...i'll be saving a copy of my 1.4.7 so I can enjoy those mods and play maps that weren't meant for 1.5...as I've been looking forward to 1.5 for a very long time and my lack of internet makes want to get it asap...lol

Feel honoured Sir, for you now have a dedicated folder on my computer for maps. Not many get a folder for their maps only. (I'm serious btw. Your the second one to get a folder, after the creator of SuperHostile.)
Hey! I am playing oceanblock on 1.5.0 and i can`t get any animals spawned. Is the new update that restricts the spawnage of animals?
Note:I am playing on hardcore mode. Can this be another reason?
I haven't heard of anything in 1.5 that would stop peaceful mobs from spawning, assuming you have grass that's at least 24 blocks away from you. It does take quite some time, so I'd just set up the grassy area and then ignore it for several in-game days.
I still haven't tried the new OceanBlock map (it's been HARD to resist!) since I'm still playing my other version and Pancake Survival. But I think I'm going to give it a sneaky little test drive here at work, haha. My work computer doesn't run MC that well, so I have to leave view distance really low, but that should be ok for just trying it out I hope! Thanks for the updated map! It gives me a delightful excuse to start OceanBlock all over again.

Pancake survival huh? I might check that out, but I did "sneak peek" of 4.1 OB...(aka I loaded the map and went into creative) and I must say the challenges book with the categories was very well done and organized, and the fact that you encased the nether in a GIGANTIC box of bedrock was brilliant...it'll kill those ppl that try to break the rules and build a large bridge to the "mainland" so unless the outright cheat...(aka go into creative and break the bedrock) there would be no possible way to get there! Since 4.1 is made for 1.5 I have it downloaded but I'm kinda waiting for mods and Texture Packs to get updated...(mainly Control Pack mod and Wolfcraft TP)
and no worries as Control Pack doesn't break and "survival" rules, all it does is added extra volume controls, sneak toggle, brightness toggle, and extra key-bindings and a waypoint system, that merely enhances gameplay but doesn't fall in the line of cheating or gaining an unfair advantage to survival maps.
